What?
I've lived for many years in the CBD and let me tell you, it makes no sense. It's like the least planned city I have ever seen. It's like if you let a five year old draw a six armed monster.
I don't really care much about planning (SF is built on like 4 separate grids lmao). I'm talking more about the buildings/general feel.
This Australian usage of the term differs from common American and British usage, where it typically means a smaller, frequently separate residential community outside, but close to, a larger city. The Australian usage is closer to the American or British use of "district" or "neighborhood", and can be used to refer to any portion of a city.
So like, for example, Silver Spring is a suburb of DC. It's a separate municipality outside, but adjacent to the city. They have their own local government, etc. Aussie suburbs are, like, still in the municipality of Sydney and run under its city government and shit.
