Let’s assume for a moment TGP was joking.

What benefit is there to joking the moderator lied to us outright when people are actively alt hunting? (a practice I despise and will not join) the hydra.

It is a way to comment without commenting and at the same time potential get people to slip if they have a way to get moderator notifications or not.

TGP from prior experience with them is not a joke or a troll user.

So I don’t think that was intended to be a joke.

Furthermore when someone is “joking” and could have disastrous consequences on how players hunt and play that “joke” can have rather large consequences if people are lead down the wrong path. A lot of people here on MS use meta and/or emotion tells and if they look for one set instead of three because they believe there is only one head not three that can be disastrous, especially when a majority of the content so far is around the hydra head.

So this “joke” even if it is one probably came from scum.

According to the definition of bastard on MS, things like Miller for a town player or Godfather for scum are reasonably anticipatable.

Having something from signups be announced as 3 players then turning out to be one IMHO wouldn’t.

Varsoon when I was scum in FFT and never could actually post in thread was still advertised as bastard and that another player existed. So this would fall under needing the same declaration. So that hydra certainly has three heads. Which heads I will leave to the alt hunters.

In regards to one type of motivation, that’s why I tried to assume it was a joke. I could not think of a reason why anyone would joke like that have it be good therefore TGP needs to die.

Right now Gork Titus and Katsuki (if memory serves) are suggested as being in the hydra. For this example I am assuming that the slots are those three people but in no way encourage alt hunting/outing. If someone has a meta read of “Titus does X only as scum” and then X happens but it’s actually Gork doing X so the slot is town it could lead to a lot of bad assumptions. Hence why I don’t see town making that “joke”. Do you see another motivation that I am missing?

Pedit I hope we’re both town too and can overcome the past as well.

You have this all wrong

Page 7 is the best time to reread a game. It's quick and easy rn, so it's super simple and fast to do and you can sound like a hardworking townie for doing it. Wait til 200 pages in and it's a waste of time and a painful experience.

I mean that takes like < 20 minutes for most everyone to do.

It feels like a really odd callout and the why can go a long way towards reading them. 200 pages in yeah it’s brutal but I find it can catch a lot of scum if you can avoid confirmation bias.

User: MathBlade, why do you feel the need to "piece your slot together" on page 10. It has been 24 hours since the game has started.
I don't feel the questions you are asking is getting to the core of user: Ursula motivations. These are not questions that advance the gamestate. These are questions that look like you are doing something.

Rereading the game is a conscious decision. It’s something a person does willingly. Furthermore I struggle with “jokey” or “gimmicky” or “funny” slots. With three heads consistency and integrity is not the best way to read a hydra, especially one that remains anonymous. What I find does work is figuring out why each specific head does things. Unless a joke is extremely obviously a joke or is NAI I have to push it to be able to read it.

Your hydra claims experience with me, yet you do all of these things despite knowing my struggles with reading jokes. I look forward to Ursula telling me why they reread the gamestate because right now it feels like you’re intentionally trying to piss me off or make it to where I can’t read you.

The rereading the game also implies that you weren’t paying as close attention before if you felt the need to reread it or that you are looking for something in particular. I really really look forward to the answer as it goes a long way toward reading your hydra.

Yuurei's got a very slippery vote overall actually, not sure how I feel about that. The Math->TGP switch in particular came off as odd to me.

I agree with the sentiment so far that pretty much every one of HeWhoSwims's posts makes me think scum. "soft agree" in 122 is sketch and 254 sounds like "fight fight fight" - encouraging players with mutual scumreads to expand on them seems to be a recipe for conflict without a lot of town motivation.

I agree with Keychain’s line of thinking but not the conclusion.

Players with mutual scumreads fighting is good for the game in small doses. It’s a matter if HWS has egged on the fighting when it was going on too long it would be bad. Overall the slot does give me weird vibes but not for that.

Aronis is annoying me but I wouldn't say that means anything.

I am lean scum on Mathblade if I am being generous, they are kinda weird and I don't overly like the line of questioning about me rereading the game. It's not abnormal for someone to do at this stage by any means and it's a stupid line of questioning that only yields answers like "I am trying to win" or "I had no solid reads" which aren't even alignment indicative answers. Aronis' "too make them look busy" critique has some validity but that clearly isn't what MathBlade is talking about. Although I tend to wait awhile before I read "weird" players since I am not so great at it.

The nameless section of our hydra is town reading TGP but I never asked why, it's probably some kind of tone read. I just read his ISO to help myself answer this question and none of his posts are alignment indicative by any means and are mostly just fun banter.


So sorry, I guess I am just null on the 3 slots in question.

P.S. In a game this size, and with Mastina as a mod, it's be stupid to "just assume" it's single ball. This is why I'm trying to "town hunt" more in this game.

Played me enough times (and more recently so) and is well capable of reading me as either alignment.

Also has extensive experience with me. He used to auto-SR me and even tunnel me at first, but then he learned how to read me.

RC:

It's been a while now, but he used to know me too well. I mean, the last time we played together and we were both town we still SR'd each other (off site), but overall he has some key elements about my play he is more likely to correctly peg me than not.

Now I won't claim I'm that easy to read still, but if all 3 say I'm scum then I'm 90% so. If they say I'm Town then I'm 80% so.

Next level: Cheeky & Creature. I don't know how

trust themselves to be able to read me, but I say it's a very good chance.

Then we have: HeWhoSwims, ArcAngel9, TGP, Vecna & hebican. The former two may have not played me but they have modded me, so they have seen me "from above". The latter 3 are familiar with me, but I wouldn't really count on them pegging me correctly in every game we play together.

there's so many eager meta town reads floating around at this point that we're yet at page 21 however i feel as if we almost could win by PoE already?

i imagine there's two possibilities here:

I. we've a playerlist very knowledgeable and accurate about each other meta
II. these town reads are too eager and influenced by the confidence of some players that think they can meta read Z player (specially so early) when they can't and should drop their confidence a bit

i particularly believe that it's case II but i'm not arguing over it if everyone disagrees to reconsider

on a side note i'm losing my confidence in one of my town reads, but i'll save explanations for later

There are and there aren’t. Meta is generally a starting point for most players then things develop from there.

Take me for example, I am notoriously hard to read as people have indicated. Sometimes a town meta read is more a “he’s not following his scum meta he’s okay for today” where as some town meta reads are “damn Mastina might as well have announced he’s town” Also scum could be throwing their buddies a town “meta read”. That’s why if I meta someone I try to say what post if prompted. I may not say the exact reason as to prevent tells but it helps people get a bead on me more.

Almost everyone, I suppose?! I mean, if you've played 3 games on Mafiascum within the last 12 months you must've heard about Creature (and Not_Mafia). The former lurks it out as Scum and the latter lol!hammers as either alignment (so never put someone @L-1 if N_M's not already voting them unless you want them dead with or without a claim).

I can provide you with dozens of examples (here and on Mafiauniverse too), but I'll spare you the trouble and link you to a couple of his recent games.

1- Scum!Creature.
2- Town!Creature.
3- Town!Creature. (I wasn't in this)
4- Town!Creature.
5- Scum!Creature.

Now if you want more you probably can look them up yourself.

The hard keychain scumread makes me clench my teeth - no fan of reads like those - but it's rather townie than scum, since this would look really bad for scum nsg if we would flip keychain as either alignment.

This seems a little bit of a stretch. We're barely out of RVS and NSG is literally pushing Key for her entrance with little support, so it looks unlikely that either one will flip anytime soon. It feels like you're looking for a reason to townread NSG, rather than organically doing so. Also, Ive seen scum happily mislynch/death tunnel town.

I am lean scum on Mathblade if I am being generous, they are kinda weird and I don't overly like the line of questioning about me rereading the game. It's not abnormal for someone to do at this stage by any means and it's a stupid line of questioning that only yields answers like "I am trying to win" or "I had no solid reads" which aren't even alignment indicative answers. Aronis' "too make them look busy" critique has some validity but that clearly isn't what MathBlade is talking about. Although I tend to wait awhile before I read "weird" players since I am not so great at it.

The nameless section of our hydra is town reading TGP but I never asked why, it's probably some kind of tone read. I just read his ISO to help myself answer this question and none of his posts are alignment indicative by any means and are mostly just fun banter.

first of all, it's not an "argument" in the first place - it's something that i think could be possible based on my expectations of what scum would and wouldn't do and how they would interact with me. yes, it absolutely does depend on the person, and no - saying that scum may be more likely to be not just following along on a wagon is not an "inherently bad argument", it's something that's empirically verifiable. that's not to say that it happens every game - like i said,

it depends on the person.

Looking at the Golden Iso I don't see anything that points to them being scum. The anger feels genuine and the few votes they do have in the game I agree with. I think both of the top wagons are on town. If we're looking for a low poster lynch, why not Thea who is not doing anything the help the game state? The only vote they have in the game is on us (and I admit that is why I iso'd them) for the simple reason of us being an anon hydra; the rest of the posts are filler.

I'd like the gold voters to say why they would vote gold and not thea.

TGP mainly because i think he's better than making the "so you expect us to sheep you" comment (and i think him being good/bad is AI), and hewhosims because i think he's something of a "wisdom of the crowd" read where if he gets consensus scumread he's likely scum but if he gets consensus townread he's probably just town. (obviously that reasoning wouldn't work for myself in isolation, but in the context of a larger game i think it's valid, and would be valid for certain other pople as well)

and, i suppose just to elaborate on the first point, i think that TGP being bad or good is actually AI for him. in a theme game that i modded where he was town, this was his lynchpool on day one:

Gamma: I already explained my case.
Cheeky: Provides little in the way of game content, preferring to say things like "why are you guys so scummy" and then proceeds to have the biggest mislynch bait ever as her top townreads. I don't see that coming from this great of a town player, especially considering the difference between this and Gold Rush, although that may be normal newbie queue playstyle differences.
TWC and Pintu: Both perfectly good and capable players that are staying under the radar. I'm willing to partly excuse this as there could be multiple reasons for this absense.
Wheme: Provides none in the way of actual game content, trolling, which is NAI, but makes me want to PL him.

that contains the entire scumteam, the neutral survivor, and one townie.

I am thinking Luna is scum simply from the lack of activity. One of the heads of Luna if I am right likes to be a bullhorn as town and is quieter as scum. Combined with two other heads not being here I think Luna is probably scum. Some people townread the Luna hydra if memory serves.

I'm not very impressed with Archwing's entrance. I thought Luna had the reaction to the NSG wagon. Math is pinging me like always. I think TGP looks mad so some reasons why he's mad at this spamfest would be nice? I don't think scum get mad at spamfests which typically tilt things in their favour. I'm fine with a wagon there until we get some real reads from his slot. HWS hasn't done much to assuage my paranoia there either.
