I bought this a few weeks ago but only really got around to playing it last weekend.
Anyone got any sneaky tips for a poor newbie farmer? Anything at all is helpful
I really enjoy the very chilled out nature of the game, it's a breath of fresh air compared to the usual games I play that require a lot of attention and focus.
The music is pretty great too.
I'm hoping to take screenshots etc. as I progress and post them here

snagged this for like $2 on Switch a little while ago, I've put in ~40 hours (Year 2, almost at Summer) and my SO who doesn't really play video games outside of Pokemon Go about ~72 (Year 3, Spring)
holy crap this game's fun
Spoiler: strat
farmed shit hard in Fall year 1 for Cranberries/Corn, Oak Resin for ~30 Kegs and stuff for ~12 Preserve Jars, and a ton of ore for Quality Sprinklers. Cranberry Wine and Pickled Corn got me through the winter money-wise (almost out, have also used Pumpkins/Cherries/Potatoes) and I have have ~300 crops on auto-water from ~40 Sprinklers. only have Chickens animal-wise that I got within the past ~7 game days (and a Silo) but I'm slowly getting there. next Spring starts me off with 192 Strawberries, should have ~300 crops to preserve/keg through Summer, and I'm slowly working on upgrading my tools to Gold (just Axe/Pickaxe currently).
community center quests are chugging along but I need animals/bulletin board/a few fish mostly.
I also have 8 friendship hearts with Emily, Abigail, Shane, Leah, Sam, and 7 with Sebastian, I should
i've wanted to try setting up one of those permanent servers that pause when no one's online for a while
but i'm just so skeptical of the idea i haven't yet explored how it'd work
i mean if someone's very online and you aren't, isn't all of your own effort destined to fall away?
but at the same time consistently being online at the same time to cultivate a shared farm is unfeasible in the long term w/o strong social bonds in play
do not assume my posts follow coherency they do not imagine that every time i post i put half of my knowledge into a clone and then the clone murders me
ok this game is cool or whatever but there's this one fucking fish and i'm pretty sure it's the same fish because it jumps around in exactly the same way and it's basically fucking uncatchable. even if i somehow manage to get 75% of the way to catching it the fish is going to wiggle its cheeky little ass around for 10 seconds and make me want to throw my laptop.
is there a way to upgrade my rod to make this easier or am i going to constantly be in an unwinnable war with this fucking flounder or whatever until i quit the game?

Sounds like a Legendary or a Sea/Super Cucumber
Iridium Rod and level 10 fishing - it will be a challenge but a little more manageable with the right hook.
