Burkenstock is OMGUS voting again. I'm really getting a newbie scum read from him this entire game. I know he's not new to Mafia in general, but being new to the website can be enough to cause enough paranoia for this to happen.
UNVOTE: Flavor Leaf
VOTE: Burkenstock
Are you saying that you think that he's newb scum because he's paranoid, and that paranoia results in omgus votes?

Paranoid of what?
Exactly, he’s newb scum so anytime someone attacks him he flips it back on to them out of fear of getting found out.

I think you're right on the brothers, and I think it is TLK.

I think you're right on {flippy, DEB} but I wouldn't be too shocked if it were two. I've lost a bit of my flippy read. If it is one, I think it's Deb.

I think there is also at least one in {wilky, TLK}

I think creature is just scum

I think FL, Vedith, L8, Pers are all probably town

And I'm null on the two replacements but by poe I don't think I want to lynch either today.
If I wasn’t enjoying Creature’s fluff so much I’d probably see them as scum too. Also, if you’re going to call me Deb, I’d prefer Deborah.

He has a lot of fluff posts, but he could just be new and not know how to case scum. He was pushing Burken a little while ago.

Unlike Burke, Dr Easy Bake wouldn’t be pulling the newbie card, though. This is his first game here as well.
I think he feels really relaxed for a new player struggling to figure out how to express his views on the game. In my lynch pool atm, for sure.
and hasn’t posted in a good while probably because he’s nervous that we might have found him out.
Well I wrote this before I saw that he chimed in a bit.

Leans? Which way? Town or scum? What's your reasoning behind these leans?

Sounds like you've found five scum out of a possible four.

Overall here are my reads:

Most Dolphinately Scum In My Opinion:
Brother Sandal (read my previous posts)

Possibly Scum:
The First Queen (leaning towards not though)
Creature (scummy behavior but I’m entertained and don’t want them gone first day)
nippyFlips (could go either way for me, too flippy)

Probably Town:
i m an animal 4 (only reason not definite is the smoker avatar)
Persivul (only reason not definite is because they’re so quiet, only 16 posts, and I don’t truly grasp this whole “by the book” thing)
Early for Lunch (just a gut feeling)

Most Dolphinately Town In My Opinion:
Bland Branch (too damn helpful)
Vedith (just a gut feeling)

I’m unsure about the rest of ye.

I'd be willing to wagon Burkenstock to see what some real pressure does. I'm scumreading him for a variety of reasons.

Low content one-liners including a lot of information instead of analysis.

Plays the n00b card but plays it wrong and inconsistently:
In post 112, Burkenstock wrote:Also can we all agree that Flavor Leaf would never claim what he actuly is this early on and the fact that he chose a town faction only underlines that he is.. excuse me.. full of shit?
His thinking is sophisticated enough to call BS on Leaf's "hardclaim"
In post 136, Burkenstock wrote:Don't certain roles get their own chats? I feel like people who probably talked early but then haven't been participating are scum plotting their secrets. I could be wrong about this..
But n000b enough to wonder if scum are plotting in secret? I have a hard time reconciling those.

He also isn't acting like a typical n00b, which is to ask wall-o-text questions, especially
The N00B Question
, and then keep asking them. He doesn't have a single vote, not even in RVS, until he starts dropping OMGUS votes and then discovers how to PDQ. All his votes and unvotes are naked and purely reflexive. His few reads are bare accusations with no reasoning to back them up. It's hard to get him to reply and when he does they're minimal, evasive, or even Q4Q. I'm getting close to BINGO on his card.

What does everybody think about voting him up to L-2 and asking him to produce a detailed reads list?

VOTE: Burkenstock

i think there's at least two scum in Scept/Creature/Easy Bake. Creature doesn't get a wagon because it's not as useful for reading him. i'd lynch him if i'm very sure he's scum, which i think he could be. but for now i'm okay given him another chance just to be completely sure.

Easy Bake is just generically scummy.

Scept just gives me a not-town feeling. the reason for scumreading wilky (who isn't that towny, yes) doesn't feel very good here, might be the way he gives "short posts that lack oomph" as a reason to justify what is actually a gut read as he said. seems like extraneous information and if i was going to go all the way on it i'd say it's there as justification a gutread doesn't need.

I mean other people have posted similar lists so I thought it’d be a good way to let y’all know my thoughts and a good way for me to organize and work out my thoughts. I don’t know what about it makes me scummy. As I’ve said in my previous post, “All I do is comedy bro. Eat a croissant.” So, you can find me under your local bridge if you whip up an actual reason for me to be scum.

a number of the reads seem rather arbitrary. i suppose gut-based reads are fine.
i'll admit i didn't think about someone new to forum mafia simply copying the readlist format they saw a bunch of other people doing, even without strong backing for a lot of the reads.

I mean I’ll admit, my Creature read is definitely selfish and arbitrary. If he gets to a high vote count I’m willing to reconsider my choices. Most of these reads aren’t super set in stone, except for Brother Sandal. I feel his scum presence all the way down to my plums. Let, the boy, watch.
I’m a bit confused about you point in your second thought. What do you mean by “i’ll admit i didn’t think about...”
You’re surprised that a would make a read list?

when you have very few strong reads, yes, i find it surprising.
but as Flavor pointed out, this is sort of like a newbie game. and a lot of players just like doing them anyway.
i personally don't find them useful when a lot of the reads are just "eh i might as well put this player here". at that point it becomes more about finding a place for that player than actually reading them.
does that make sense?

Yeah it makes sense. You’re exactly right, when I was making it I was thinking, “where should I put this player” but I didn’t just place them randomly. I went and looked at what they had said to make my decision. I still went and got the read I could get from them, even if I didn’t start with a read.

hm, i think Easy Bake's inched out of my scumlist.

and yes, i didn't mean i thought you were doing it randomly, but personally i'm more interested in the reads you really believe in and less in the ones that could go either way. think i'm in the minority there.

regarding Burke: i believe Flavor when he says Burke is capable of using his newness to his advantage.
however, the way Burke has done it reminds me less of scum trying to use that to justify themself. i'd need to really comb the posts to explain why but you're right in that it feels contradictory (and is) in the things he chooses to know already/have to ask about.
it's really very sloppy. comfortable at scum or not, i think if Burke's scum he's too comfortable.

Alrighty, I’ll try to let you only know my serious reads.
Back to Brother Sandal, I feel like his confidence (when he shows it) is fake. I think he is trying to show us “Hey I’m not nervous because I’m scum for the first time in this site.” I get that from the inconsistency. I agree with you that this doesn’t seem like a scum trying to use their newbiness as an advantage. Maybe that was the goal in the beginning but it quickly didn’t work out.
