Bus Rider
If you're going to San Francisco,
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair.
If you're going to San Francisco,
You're gonna meet some gentle people there...
The Greyhound to San Francisco is only sparsely populated. It is dark outside, though the sun will be rising soon. An old radio plays from the front of the bus, though the bus driver is obscured from view.
Strangely, all its passengers are dressed in costumes. Many have been attending a costume party in Fresno, but the others - like you - must just like wearing costumes. Most of the group welcome the anonymity their masks provide, so they haven't bothered to change into their normal attire. And perhaps some have something to hide.
A large music festival awaits some of them - though, no one can remember who else is performing, or even if they are expected to play or sing. Others are just headed home for a stay, returning to the city they deserted for their various paths through life.
Few, if any of you, will survive that far.
But you aren't aware of the danger, so let us not dwell on this. Sit back, and relax to the gentle vibrations of the bus as it rolls down the highway...
All across the nation, such a strange vibration,
People in motion...
There's a whole generation with a new explanation,
People in motion... people in motion...
