To answer the hair side of things, I now go to a barber who has won best barber of the year UK. (although I don't actually go with him) I pay £27 for it which is about £20 more than I used to. But the difference in cut makes all the difference to me. I bounce ideas off my barber, she knows me and remembers me. If Im not happy she allows me to come back and get it changed free of charge. She advises me on products and styles, she has even helped me with skincare (she was a beauty therapist before she became a barber) My current cut (which I got yesterday) was one in which I didn't know exactly what I wanted and she tried something that could be changed if needed but actually I really like it. It's slightly longer (still short though) and slightly more messy than I usually have but looks a lot smarter and modern. I get a head massage and wash and dry and get tea/coffee and she styles it at the end. Is it worth £27? I'd prefer it was cheaper but Im also happy paying it, because it gives me more confidence than having a cheaper cut. I know that every barber in the place has been chosen because of quality (although I moved from her old place to her new one). You might get some of that from cheaper barbers and more expensive barbers may not give you that, but for me, I feel I get my moneys worth.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.- Porochaz

It also depends what you want. If you are just going for a buzzcut then I guess going more expensive doesn't matter as much? I get my hair cut every 6 to 8 weeks (although it's going to be 4 weeks this time as I have a wedding to go to and if I don't like the current cut Ill get it changed)In post 2, Psyche wrote:a side question of mine is whether frequent haircuts are worth it
family tradition has been to get a short buzz and wait at least a month to buzz again
this does result in an intermediate period where i don't look optimally fly
how frequently do normal people get haircuts? how frequently do so-called middle class people get haircuts?
The problem I have is my hair grows in spurts. Sometimes I go to the hairdresser and it's like shearing a sheep, then other times it's a small trim and tidy-up. I used to go 2 to 3 months and whilst occassionally that was fine, there were other times when I was constantly pushing hair out my eyes and my hair was starting to flick round my ears, which didn't look good. 6 weeks works for me, unless I've got an event I wouldn't go less than that.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.- Psyche

Worth
Tea.
Flight and accommodations.
Vitamins and skin care.
Food. Though I still have a deep love for cheap asian take out and junk food.
Spas.
Gym.
Chargers.
Perfume.
Not worth.
Electric apparel of any kind.
Clothes. As time goes on my love of H&M has grown. Buy cheap and in mass. Discard as fit with no heartbreak.
Sometime I get roped into youtubing "beauty tutorials" and spend money on make up. Waste of it each time, can't even be bothered with lipstick nowadays.
Still sephora sale booklets that they keep mailing me are good read on the throne, can compete with any "fashion magazine".- Psyche

It started back when I was working in China. Amway vitamin C settled my stomach after some local product that didn't agree with me. I suspect it's about the excipients used and the dosage.
Now I like having good Omega 3, they just make feel better - can be taken on empty stomach with no acidity/fish taste, and some placebo effect from the numbers on the bottle I'm sure.- shaft.ed

Man I would not be skimping on most electronic appliances. Also learning the hard way, not on clothes either. Ironically can easily go for cheap tea. Skincare is something new to my routine and man, it costs me a bit but it's in the best condition it's been in for ages.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.- springlullaby

I dunno. I've become disappointed with computers: they all die at the worst moment anyway.
And the piles of assorted charger, cables etc that accumulates over the years just gives me headache. And the screw, and emergency bolts and...blah.
It's juststuff.
I have a friend who is so proud of her alexa, wifi fridge etc.
It just does nothing for me. Except: how much? You're crazy!
Good skin care is good. I wish I'd be more thorough with the routine.
H&M prints pants are great.
Ahhh nostalgia for a consumer goods era that we may never see again! [/drama]- Aurathebirb

^Your next premium item must be pillow mist then.
I make mine atm (spray bottle/filtered water/tea tree+citrus). Can't tell you how glad I'm for my stock of essential oils.
A drop of tea tree makes me feel virus free.
A drop of citrus makes me feel free of virus.
And that's the entire scientific approach to it. - springlullaby
