VOTE: the worst

Judging many of the categories is a highly involved process with the expectation that at least 4-5 hours are spent reading games and comparing nominees.
The ones that are public votes are explicitly popularity contests; the rest are not intended to be and the judging is taken seriously and we wouldn't want people who don't have informed opinions to vote.
That said judging is open to everyone. No one was turned down as judges. But there's an expectation that if you sign up to judge you're going to put in time and be objective as opposed to voting for your friends and that expectation isn't imposed on the public votes to the same degree.
2019 stats: Town WR 76.7%, overall WR 81.667%, 1 scum defeat involving a major mod error in lylo vs 8 scum wins.

I guess I don't get why more categories aren't just popularity contests though? Like isn't Kodak moment already "best meme"/"most insane situation" basically?

Just seems silly to add undue seriousness to some of the silliest categories :P

Like "mad scientist" could easily be a popularity contest even if you wanted "rube goldberg" to be serious; as it is both categories overlap really heavily

Kodak moment is a lot more subjective, yes, but it still has objective criteria that are set to be fulfilled. Rube Goldberg and Mad Scientist refer to separate things which is more clear if you look at the specific definitions of the award, even if there's some overlap.

I guess there is a case to be made for making Kodak Moment public though, but it's not really intended as a ~popularity contest vote~ in the same way even if it's not serious business.

Anyway the real takeaway here is that the key to getting a nom for scummy is to have a game with stealth hydras >:P

Hole up do I have a blank check to vote for my friends on the public vote instead of spending the 4-5 hours I planned?

If you wanted to vote you should have signed up to vote when we did the public call for scummies judges.

I think my analysis in the judging forum helps point out the differences. But I might be biased. :P

Eh. My strategy was just mod a shitton of mediocre games and hope people don't notice. :P

For clarification, are people who are in the running for the public vote categories allowed to vote in said categories?

Can confirm, the turkey had an essay about the nuances that NONE OF YOU WILL EVER GET TO READ BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T SIGN UP TO JUDGE.

Thing with Nancy is we just need to tread carefully because if you slip up around her as scum she notices and will tear your spine out and slap you to death with it.

I will probably require years of therapy to get past this unexpected setback.
