Episode 2: Soixante-Trois

Welcome back, my unfortunate 9, to your second challenge. Today, we will be playing a game of bluffing, alliances and pushing your luck.

Here are the rules as follows:

1) All 9 players will sit in a circle. The order of the circle will go from player 1 to player 9, and back to player one. Play will pass to your left. So Player 2 is to the left of Player 1. Player 1 is to the left of Player 9... etc.
2) The order for the game has been randomized. Here is your table seating positions.
1. Farren
2. Gypyx
3. Nexus
4. NancyDrew
5. Sirius
6. lilith
7. Pooky
8. Numbers
9.SleepyKrew

3) Play will begin with Player 1. On player 1's turn, they will draw a card from the deck of 28. They will look at the card, and place it face down into the pile in the middle, announcing a Value, from 1 to 7.
4) Play will then pass to the next player. The next player has a choice before they draw a card. They may either announce that the pile has BUST or draw a card, look at it, place it in the middle of the table, announce a new COMBINED VALUE and pass to the next player.

To give an example of this, we will show you this example:

Player 1: Draws a 3 of spades, declares value is 5. Pass to player 2.
Player 2: Draws an Ace of Hearts, wants to tell the truth. Declares value is 6 (not 1, but +1). Passes to player 3.

5) If a player declares bust, the following will occur.

The player who called bust will be told publically if their call has succeeded or failed.

For a bust call to succeed, the pile must have a score above 63. Otherwise, the bust call fails.

The pile will not be flipped over. The players will not be informed of the point total of the pile except for whether it is above or below 63.

If the player correctly calls bust, the LAST PLAYER to play, i.e the player on their right, will be the loser of that round. If they fail, THEY will be the loser.

6) Once a round ends, all winners (that is, all non-losers) will gain 1 token. In order to guess the name of the game, you must spend a token. You may guess at any time, as many times as you like... so long as you have tokens to spend.

7) The deck consists of cards Ace through 7, of each suit, adding up to 28 cards. The base value of the cards is the number of pips shown on them. Ace is 1, 2 is 2.... etc.

8) Players may ask for clarification of the base rules of this game, incase this list is non-exhaustive.

9) There is, as always, a hidden rule. That rule, is the name of the game. Guess the rule, leave the table. Last to leave the table... will be left behind.

Good luck, players.

Nexus, you are up. Draw or call Bluff?

Also, players. I am now noticing a flaw in this plan that it requires 2 submission cycles per player's turn. I will place it to a vote. Would players rather that I randomize a stated value after they draw a card and move onto the next player, or continue as is with draw, see, then state themselves?

maybe make them draw immeditaly but allow to choose between the drawn card or calling bluff?

I'd rather continue as-is, given those two choices. Not much point in a bluffing game where you can't control how you bluff.

PEdit> I like Gypyx's choice as well, although maintaining TNOTG (or maintaining the illusion that it could affect TNOTG) may not allow a divergence between the two options.

Gypyx's option wouldn't alter the name of the game, whether or not the name of the game is related to bluffing or not. It's a reasonable option, but it DOES mean a player doesn't have to risk drawing a card before the bluff. Minor sadness, but not a big deal.

If people prefer that outcome, and overwhelmingly go for that, I'll implement that.

Also a huge thank you to everyone who is playing. This game is effectively a beta test for this game concept as a whole, so some bumps like this are to be expected, and I am really glad to have players committed to playing and having fun with it anyway.
