CHALLENGE EIGHT

In this challenge you will be presented with a category and six words. If those words exist in that category, you will put a “1”, If those words do not exist in that category, you will put a “0”.

For example, Numbers: One, Two, Fifteenbazillion, Ringostarr, Five, Bug, you would submit 110010. For each correct code you submit you will get 1 point.

1. Feel free to use outside resources for this challenge. In theory it is gettable without, but we don’t like making those assumptions and it is perfectly fine to use them for this!

2. Your final score will be out of 13. The two players with the lowest scores will be up for elimination. If there is a tie, then the slowest person to get that score will be up for elimination.

3. When you are ready you will submit “Starting”. If you accidentally click out of it, you can submit “starting” again. However, when you are ready to submit “finishing” you will only get one time to submit “finish” and whatever you submit will be final.

4. You will have a 1 hour max out time. Any guesses submitted after 1 hour will not count.

5. You will have until 9pm tomorrow, in (expired on 2022-01-31 21:00:00), to begin this challenge. **This is new and as long as you start by the deadline it's fine :)

6. The Christmas Fox is sad that the gift has not been found, it thinks that maybe people would have specifically looked at the details of the last challenge to find the precious gift. Perhaps there is further detail in adding things up?

When you are ready to begin, you will click this link.

We will do our best to be able to answer questions but cannot guarantee we will be around when you start this challenge, so be sure to get all of your questions answered before you begin :)

Wowee! This was a fun challenge wouldn't you all agree?

*everyone is glaring at me*

Okayyyyyyy fine glad to see you all agree. Let's get to the results shall we?

Binary Code 1: Oceans: pacific, avian, atlentic, arctic, indiam, colon

Solution: 100100

Who got it?

Spoiler: Malkon we just skip this stuff anyways
Everyone except for kdowns and Vash got this correct.

kdowns put 100000. I hate to burst your bubble kdowns, but the Arctic Ocean is in fact an ocean.
Vash put 100110. Although the Indian Ocean is an ocean, the "Indiam" Ocean sadly does not exist.

Current Score:
Everyone-1
Vash, kdowns-0

Binary Code 2: NFL teams: bulls, bears, eagls, broncos, dolphins, badgers

Solution: 010110

Who got it?

Spoiler: Malkon we hate you
Ethel, Shadow & GeorgeBailey missed this one.

Ethel gave us 010111. The Badgers, so far as I know, are not a real NFL team.
Shadow gave us 110110. The Bulls are in fact, an NBA team, not an NFL team.
GeorgeBailey gave us 010111. The Badgers, so...we did this already.

Current Score:
Ariel, STD, mist-2
Vash, Ethel, Shadow, GB, kdowns-1

Binary Code 3: Board Games: monopaly, risk, life, sorrry, mysterium, jumonji

Solution: 011010

Who got it?

Spoiler: I GOT IT I GOT IT
So long as you are not GeorgeBailey, you did in fact get it! Congrats.

GeorgeBailey gave us 011011. "Jumanji" is a board game. "Jumonji" is not.

Current Score:
Ariel, STD, mist-3
Vash, Ethel, Shadow, kdowns-2
GB-1

Binary Code 4: Movies: titanic, aquaman, red, push, ice spiders, rio

Solution: 111111

Who got it?

Spoiler: Surprise?
Everyone got it!

Current Score:
Ariel, STD, mist-4
Vash, Ethel, Shadow, kdowns-3
GB-2

Binary Code 5: TV Shows: sex and the city, game of throns, the voice, american idol, avatar, ducktales

Solution: 101101

Who got it?

Spoiler: Smugface
GeorgeBailey, mist & kdowns all missed this. Everyone else is A++++++

All three actually gave the same response of 101111. While "Avatar: The Last Airbender" is in fact a tv show, "Avatar" is a movie. Avatar by itself would not count as the name of the show.

Current Score:
Ariel, STD-5
mist, Vash, Shadow, Ethel-4
kdowns-3
GB-2

Binary Code 6: Seasons: winter, fall, spring, autum, chrysler, sommer

Solution: 111000

Who got it?

Spoiler: Unamusementface
Everyone got it!!!

Current Score:
Ariel, STD-6
mist, Vash, Shadow, Ethel-5
kdowns-4
GB-3

Binary Code 7: Streaming Services: panda, netflix, hulu, appel+, amason prime, chikorita

Solution: 011000

Who got it?

Spoiler: BingeThis
Everyone except Ariel got this.

Ariel gave us 111000. I am unaware of a streaming service specifically called "Panda".

Current Score:
STD-7
Ariel, mist, Vash, Shadow, Ethel-6
kdowns-5
GB-4

Binary Code 8: Plant: fern, tree, malkon, d3f3nd3r, rose, cactus

Solution: 110011

Who got it?

Spoiler: AreTheModsPlants?
Everyone got it!!!

Current Score:
STD-8
Ariel, mist, Vash, Shadow, Ethel-7
kdowns-6
GB-5

Binary Code 9: Furniture: yellow, lemon, chair, dog, cat, sofa

Solution: 001001

Who got it?

Spoiler: I would like to sit on my lemon now please
Everyone got it!!!

Current Score:
STD-9
Ariel, mist, Vash, Shadow, Ethel-8
kdowns-7
GB-6

Binary Code 10: Gemstones: marker, ruby, sapphire, emerald, diamont, beer

Solution: 011100

Who got it?

Spoiler: diamonts are a girls best friend
Everyone except for Ariel got this one.

Ariel gave us 011110. Although diamont looks very similar to diamond, that is not in fact a gemstone.

Current Score:
STD-10
mist, Vash, Shadow, Ethel-9
Ariel, kdowns-8
GB-7

Binary Code 11: Coaches on The Voice (US edition): blake, christina, john, arianna, miley, kelli

Solution: 111010

Who got it right?

Spoiler: Eww Carson Daly
Only Ariel, Ethel & mist got this right.

STD, kdowns and Vash gave us 111110. While there was a judge named "Ariana Grande" there was never a US judge named "Arianna".
Shadow gave us 110010. John Legend is in fact a US The Voice Judge!
GB gave us 111011. Although "Kelly Clarkson" is a current US The Voice Judge, I am unaware of a US The Voice Judge named "Kelli".

Current Score:
STD, Ethel, mist-10
Ariel, Vash, Shadow-9
kdowns-8
GB-7

Binary Code 12: Pizza Toppings: peperoni, olives, rocks, rocks, rocks, pineappl

Solution: 010000

Who got it?

Spoiler: No Cheese Please
Everyone got it!

Current Score:
STD, Ethel, mist-11
Ariel, Vash, Shadow-10
kdowns-9
GB-8

And this means...

Spoiler: What does this mean?
STD, Ethel & mist are all 100% safe even if they miss the next question. GB has to get the next question right to potentially avoid the block. kdowns has to get the next question right and hope others get it wrong to avoid the block.

Binary Code 13: Albums by Lady Gaga: joanne, born this way, the fame monstar, artpopp, cheek to cheek, rainbow

Solution: 110010

Spoiler: Who got it?
Everyone except for GB and Ariel got it.

GB gave us 110000. Cheek to Cheek was a jazz album she did with Tony Bennett and they actually got a grammy for it!
Ariel gave us 010010. Joanne is in fact Lady Gaga's only country album and is based on her middle name!

Final Scores:

Current Score:
STD, Ethel, mist-12
Vash, Shadow-11
kdowns, Ariel-10
GB-8

And with that...

Spoiler: What do you mean?!?!!
GeorgeBailey, with only 8 correct Binary Codes, you are on the block this round.

As for who is joining you, both kdowns and Ariel scored 10 of 13 points. So now we move to final time to determine who joins you.

Ariel finished in...

7 minutes and 39 seconds...

kdowns finished in...

6 minutes and 15 seconds.

This means our members of the block this round are GeorgeBailey and Ariel.

Hello everyone.

For Binary Code 7, an option for Streaming Service listed was "Panda". Now, prior to 2021, there was no company called Panda, however as has been pointed out to me now, there indeed is an app company called "Panda Interactive" which also commonly refers to themselves as "PANDA". In its own app description, it states it "stream videos". This is a weird grey area as this is a small company that doesn't show up on any regular search results under the word "panda" and aside from this app description primarily seems to function as a streaming "support" app that does in stream shopping, betting, and social connectivity which is why it didn't show up on any of our radars. So what we thought was a safe response, is indeed not a safe response.

As a result, we are not going to penalize Ariel for responding "Panda" as a yes, we are also not going to penalize anyone else for putting "Panda" as a no.

This changes the standings as follows:

Spoiler: new placements
1. Save The Dragons, 12/13, 3:11
2. mist7676, 12/13, 6:44
3. Ethel, 12/13, 10:44
4. Vashtaneurotic, 11/13, 5:48
5. Ariel, 11/13, 7:39
6. Shadoweh, 11/13, 18:05
7. kdowns, 10/13, 6:15
8. GeorgeBailey, 8/13, 7:28

Which means the nominees this round are
kdowns & GeorgeBailey.

ROUND 9 CHALLENGE

You will be given a large word search. Your job is to find as many 4+ letter words as you can in 30 minutes or less. It will be required that you take a screenshot and using an image editing/hosting program submit the link as your final submission. If we have questions about what you have submitted, we will follow up with you.

1. This challenge is pretty straight forward, you get a word search when you hit “submit” to start your challenge. It’s your job, using an image editing/hosting site and a tool like MS Paint, to circle as many 4+ letter words as you can find.

2. When you are ready to submit, you will select “finish” and input the URL to the image. We will go through once submissions are received to determine how many valid words you were able to find. You may only submit “finish” once, any further submissions will not be considered.

3. Scoring will be based on the number of letters that you do not use to make any words (or, more clearly, the number of letters that are not circled or highlighted in your submission plus any used only to create words that aren’t real). The two players with the HIGHEST scores - corresponding to the worst performances on this challenge - will be up for elimination, using time to submit as the tiebreaker if necessary.

Spoiler: Example scoring
Image
If a player submitted the bottom image, their score would be 14.

4. You will have a 30 minute max out time. Any guesses submitted after 30 minutes will not count. Words can be forwards, backwards, up, down, or diagonal.

5. You will have until tomorrow at 9pm EST, in (expired on 2022-02-02 21:00:00) to begin this challenge.

6. You may use a dictionary while doing this challenge, as well as pen and paper, but otherwise no outside sources may be used.

7. The Christmas Fox was last spotted somewhere above North Africa. Witnesses say they could hear the faint droning of Uptown Funk as they flew by.

When you are ready to begin, you will click this link.

We will do our best to be able to answer questions but cannot guarantee we will be around when you start this challenge, so be sure to get all of your questions answered before you begin :)

ROUND 10 CHALLENGE

This challenge is very simple! You will be given a series of 15 math problems. Standard PEMDAS rules apply (Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiply, Divide, Add, Subtract). If you aren’t sure what this means, ask a mod! Symbols will look like: Parenthesis: ( # ), Exponents: # ^ #, Multiply: # x #, Divide: # / #, Add: # + #, Subtract: # - # with “#” representing whatever numbers are present. Your job is to solve the math problems as fast as you can!

1. There are a total of 15 points you can get for each correct answer. The 2 players to get the lowest scores will be up for elimination. If there is a tie, the player or players that submitted the slowest will be up for elimination.

2. You are allowed a calculator for this challenge, we aren’t monsters :) Pen and paper is also allowed, no other outside sources per the usual.

3. You will click starting, and then resubmit and click finishing when done to submit. Although you can click starting as many times as you need, the first time will start your timer. You can only submit once to finish.

4. You will have 1 hour to submit your guess. Any guesses submitted after 1 hour will not count.

5. You will have until tomorrow at 9pm EST/6pm PST to complete this challenge.

6. The Christmas Fox has a question for you “can you get three in a row”?

When you are ready to begin, you will click this link.

We will do our best to be able to answer questions but cannot guarantee we will be around when you start this challenge, so be sure to get all of your questions answered before you begin :)

To clarify something that we realized may be unclear: The first sentence of Rule #3 should read "If at any point a player ends up in possession of a Golden Link, they are allowed to play it at any point in the game until
and including
the final 5."

As stated in the rules, the tiebreaker for any round is a smaller version of the challenge that was played in that round. Which means Vash and STD will participate in a smaller round of Math Reflex with 10 questions only. All rules are the same as in the actual challenge. The player that performs better will live to fight another day, and the one that performs worse will be eliminated as our fourth member of the jury.

The link for the tiebreaker is HERE. You have until tomorrow at 9pm EST to complete the challenge (due in (expired on 2022-02-06 21:00:00)) but I urge you to complete it faster so that we can keep the game moving.

Other players are welcome to attempt the challenge for their own edification, but the standard rules apply for discussion of the challenge.

ROUND 11 CHALLENGE

In this challenge you will get a YouTube video of a song. You will also get a second YouTube video for the song, but with the track divided into 27 eight-second segments, simply presented with letters "A", "B", and so on. There is a 27th clip that is marked “#”, please keep this in mind when assembling. Your job is to correctly post the sequence of letters (and #) that create the correct song from the first video.

Rules:

1. Once you start the challenge you cannot use any outside resources, with the exception of pen and paper, a computer notepad, and the online pitch pipe tool located here.

2. You will click starting, and then resubmit and click finishing when done to submit. Although you can click starting as many times as you need, the first time will start your timer. You can only submit once to finish.

3. The two players who get the least amount of letters (and #) in their correct position in the final sequence will be up for elimination. If there is a tie, the player who submits slower will be put up for elimination.

4. You will have 90 minutes (1.5 hours) to submit your guess. Any guesses submitted after that amount of time will not count.

5. You will have until tomorrow at 10pm, in (expired on 2022-02-06 22:00:00) to start this challenge.

When you are ready to begin, you will click this link.

We will do our best to be able to answer questions but cannot guarantee we will be around when you start this challenge, so be sure to get all of your questions answered before you begin :)

Also to be clear, the vote after this challenge will have a 9pm deadline, and we will remain on that schedule for the rest of the game if possible.

I'm going to take this chance to reword the first blurb about this challenge to be the following:

In this challenge you will get a YouTube video of a song. You will also get a second YouTube video for the song, but with the track divided into 27 eight-second segments, simply presented with letters "A", "B", and so on. There is a 27th clip that is marked “#”, please keep this in mind when assembling. Your job is to correctly post the sequence of letters (and #) that create the correct song from the first video.

And one more correction that I forgot to put into the original post, sorry - the cutoff time for this challenge is 1hr 30min, not 1hr. I'll edit both this and the other correction into the challenge post.

Unshockingly,
mist7676 has played a golden link on themselves.

This means the new people on the block are:

Spoiler: Who now?!
Ariel and Shadoweh

As the golden link was played very early into the round and we are at final 5, I am making the executive decision not to extend the deadline an additional 24 hours unless y'all want me to.

CHALLENGE TWELVE

In this challenge, you will be doing what you can to link two words that have nothing to do with one another via wikipedia links. You will get a set of 3 prompts that you will have to find links to in order to determine what is the shortest amount of links that it will take you to get from the first item to the last. For example, if you were to get Japan and Mario (character), one possible path would be Japan>Video Game>Super Mario Bros.>Mario. There could be a shorter chain than that, but this is just one example. This challenge is known as the Wiki Chain Challenge.

Rules:

1. You may only use English Wikipedia links, and the pages must link to another English Wikipedia page. If there is a "categories" section at the bottom of a page, those are not allowed.

2. You have a total of 1 hour to complete all three chains and submit by putting the links to every page in your chain. Your time starts when you submit “start”. You may resubmit start to get clues again, however time will still run after your first submission.

3. You will get one point for every link in each chain you complete that isn’t the first or last word. Scoring works like golf in which you want the fewest amount of points possible. The two players with the highest scores will be put on the block. If there is a tie, the player who submitted slower will be put on the block.

4. You can only submit to finish once. This will stop your time. 15 points will be added for each chain that is either not completed or completed incorrectly. This results in a max score of 45 points.

5. You will have until tomorrow at 9pm EST/6pm PST to complete this challenge. (expired on 2022-02-08 22:00:00)

6. You will start at the page with the first word and build the chain to the last word, please keep this in mind when submitting. If we cannot connect your chain in that specific path, we cannot count the submission of said chain.

7. Aside from pen and paper (and Wikipedia obviously), no outside resources for this challenge.

8. For your submission you are welcome to reference the word that links instead of the wikipedia page (eg you can put "Mario" rather than https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mario). The example shows a verified way we would accept a submission. But if we are questioning what you have provided, we will follow up. In addition, we will be providing you with the starting and ending links rather than words just so it’s clear where to start and end.

9. All links provided to you when the challenge begins will be to links in the English version of Wikipedia. Submissions should provide pathways using links from the English version of Wikipedia. Please keep this in mind when practicing/doing the challenge.

When you are ready to begin, you will click this link.

Although this isn't the exact challenge you will be doing, here is something you can use for practicing before starting the challenge if you find it helps: https://www.thewikigame.com/

We will do our best to be able to answer questions but cannot guarantee we will be around when you start this challenge, so be sure to get all of your questions answered before you begin :)
