Would recommend watching several seasons in advance of playing. If you pop in the discord survivor channel I'm sure people can recommend a good watching order season wise for a complete newbie.

Personally would say like, an episode or two would be good just to learn the rules, but beyond that it could be kinda fun to not be as immersed in the lore as everyone else will be?
