While I have a policy of "don't look things up on the wiki for this game unless it involves a decision I know will be forced upon me mid-play", I also dabble in Stardew Valley multiworlds - and recently had cause to look up the Fish Pond in the wiki for that.

How they work, more or less:
- We put in one or more of the same type of fish*.
- Unless incapable, that fish will then begin to reproduce. Only one fish is required to reproduce.
- The fish will produce items on a regular basis - what it produces depends on the fish, but roe is the most common item.
- When the pond hits its maximum, we'll get a quest from the pond. Complete the quest to increase the maximum. This can be done multiple times, although there is a cap.
- The more fish there are in the pond, the more likely we are to get items.
- We can remove the fish at any time with the fishing pole. The fish will lose any quality bonus they might have had.

*: There are a few fish that won't work, and a few not-fish-but-still-aquatic items that will work.

Barn: can't afford it! We're okay on cash (12000G) and stone (200), but we were short on wood (450 required).
Haley: didn't get to eight hearts, but we did give her a diamond and talk to her. Still at seven.
Fish pond: now has two super cucumbers. They report they're doing okay.

Energy: went to chopping wood, given the wood shortage. Although our farm is starting to run low on trees - we have a lot of grass, which is great for the animals, but it's preventing the trees from reproducing. If we want more trees, we may want to give the process a hand - or at least cut back the grass a bit.

Also, I crafted one more chest and spent a lot of time organizing things. I'd originally wanted to do this in smaller chunks, but tomorrow is the Fair - and what we have on hand matters quite a bit for that.

Today is the Stardew Valley Fair!

Today will be a 96 hour cycle.

Deadline to decide if we're going to the Fair or not: (expired on 2023-11-14 23:00:00)

If we do: I'll describe the Fair and what's available to do there. We can still spend time and energy prior to arriving at the Fair.
If we don't: we will be unable to enter Pelican Town until after 3:00 PM. All businesses will be closed.

Also, the special order board has been refreshed. We can add

one

of these two quests to our log - but if we go to the Fair, we'll have to wait until Wednesday to do it.

1) Prismatic Jelly: deliver one jar of Prismatic Jelly to the Wizard. (Wizard)
2) Community Cleanup: fish out an unknown amount of trash out of the water and dispose of it properly. (Linus)

Accepting either will have no impact on our current order (harvesting / shipping eggplants).

If we want to do well in the grange exhibit, the two most important factors are variety and quality, in no particular order.

Looks like we will be attending the Fair!

Pierre, surprisingly, is *not* running a shop at the Fair. Instead, we have a random merchant who does *not* accept standard issue currency. Instead, they accept Star Tokens - the special currency that only exists at the Fair.

Here's how we can earn Stars:

1) We can buy them! 50G each.
2) We'll get some from Mayor Lewis, depending on how well we perform in the Grange exhibit. This is free, but we only get one shot at it.
3) We can test our strength with the Smashing Stone game. This is also free, but we can only earn one star per win.
4) We can play a fishing minigame. The more fish we catch, the more stars we get. This costs 50G per attempt.
5) We can play a shooting minigame. We'll be aiming at moving targets with a slingshot. This also costs 50G per attempt.
6) We can play a guessing game. A spinning wheel, 50% green, 50% orange. We bet star tokens, with a 1:1 payout if we predict which color the wheel will stop on.

Penny noted that she won the game ten times in a row ... maybe there's a trick to this?

2) I will start a 30 minute timer, then go by player feedback as to what I should prioritize during those 30 minutes.
3) Once the timer runs out, I will hit up the shop, buy as many items as I can afford based on player priorities.
4) That's it. Fair's done.

Pre-fair work: we took care of the animals and planted a few trees, clearing out some grass west of the barn to make room for them.
Grange: we opted for a wide variety of stuff in general, emphasizing quality: an iridium bar, a gold pumpkin, a gold ancient fruit, an iridium large egg, a pink cake, a jar of maple syrup ... an iridium albacore ... a gold purple mushroom ... can't remember #9, but that's an idea. We won first place with a score of 108 and earned

1000 stars!

Socializing: we talked with everyone except Welwick (that cost money and no one requested it) and Linus (couldn't find him). No sign of Sandy or Krobus either, although that was to be expected.
Fishing: this was a very lucrative source of stars. We earned roughly between 500 and 600 stars per attempt; between this and the grange, it only took us four plays to get enough stars to buy the Stardrop and the Rarecrow both. So we bought those.
Guessing game: I read this as "bet it all three times." I did that with the leftover tokens - and won all three betting on green. We ended up with another 3000+ star tokens as a result - so we ended up buying *everything* on the list. Limit was one each; we cleaned them out!
