8-bit programmable computer

8-bit programmable computer is an implementation of an 8-bit computer in Conway's Game of Life designed and built in 2016 by Nicolas Loizeau. An improved scalable version of the design with optimized circuitry, a 32x32 pixel display, and instructions to handle arrays was created in 2021.

The computer supports eight variables and 13 instructions -- write, goto, move, jumpif, print, add, or, and, xor, not, flat, sign, and increment. The computer is programmed by changing the arrangement of structures in its Program area. The improved version possesses two more instructions, shift and rotate, as well as a display that uses disp and erase instructions.

The 8-bit programmable computer is considerably simpler than the Spartan universal computer-constructor, in large part because it does not contain a universal construction component. It is easy to program with the help of the associated Python utility script, assembly.py, and associated resources which can be found in the project's GitHub repository. It is capable of performing standard 8-bit AND, OR, XOR, and NOT operations using any of its eight variables. The improved version can process up to 128 variables, which can be 8-bit, 16-bit, or 32-bit. Additionally, the improved version can use its variables as addresses that can be read from or written to.

Town Compulsive Bodyguard
.

Your action is compulsive, meaning that you must submit an ordered playerlist at the start of the game, with the possibility of changing it later, and if you fail to submit, you will target the highest living player on the list.

Each Night, you must target a player. Assuming no interference with your action,
that player will be protected from one kill that night and you will be killed in their place
.

You win if all threats to the

are eliminated and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Postgame notes:

- The many replacements at the start were discouraging, and I made a T3-related mod error, but managed to get up to my feet.
- The setup was called "Bodyguard Madness" in my notes.
- The TA was indeed a red herring, and the finder was a bit of ModWIFOM. Very tricky setup, on purpose.
- The proposal to double up bodyguards made me chuckle as that would have killed both BGs.
- This is a very unusual theme and I'd like more feedback on it!
- CGOL (and other CA) has a vibrant community, including an official Discord server I am an admin in so check it out if you're interested in CA.
- I think this game was better-balanced than "Roguelikes", I'd like to do another soon, probably Roguelikes II.

nothing you could have done. this daw was invisibility's loss, more than std and sheep's win. i think by yesterday, mafia started playing sloppily. they got really lucky with invis not being open-minded on elo.

that said, i don't understand why day 2 needed my elimination. surprised it was town-driven, but was also warming up to the idea of a {sheep, std} because i was beginning to understand that the uninformed pov naturally scumreads what the hell i was trying to do.

hello i reviewed the game( and also contributed a couple major adjustments to make the setup work, because the bodyguards were dangerous for town)

interesting concept overall!

and yes, when someone is confirmation biasing you being mafia, it is difficult to snap them out of it.

i think the best thing to do is to be open to their POV and work from there, like asking them about what they think and convince them that way rather than pushing your view strictly.


you have to understand *why* they reached the wrong conclusion before you can present information that may direct them to the right one

that's good advice. i also think that if you're not considering town and scum versions of a 5-player match-up with lots of backlog and history you can parse through, then it's on you for confbiasing.

ya but like for an individual player -> it does nothing to just shrug and say "nothing i can do", always something you can do/try, and experiment with to at least increase chances of a similar scenario later on.

in other news, i thought i got played like a fiddle day 1 by scum which was unfortunate because by the time i was beginning to warm up to T3-slot being town, we needed an elimination that can counterclaim and fast so that there could be consensus.

i think in today's meta, it's more important to be likeable as town than playing optimally in groupthink. i have to up my likeability game :lol: i also have a blindspot in my town game where i ignore reading the room in favor of scumhunting, whereas as mafia i perform very well pandering to the playerlist once i got a vibecheck of who they are and how they will vote.

Yeah I was sus of your role at first since I was basically a scum finder but I realized later you were a town finder. I wish n_m was voted out instead then

Pere was bit of foolish execution. What are the odds that scum fake claim bg with the exact gating.

I think the problem was at that invis was listing only to the player that in all cases was scum.

a scum team of hu/pere means that town only had 2 bg with negative gating. 1/2 vig. Thats an absurd low level of town power that it would never pass review

Hu Tao I dont think you could of done anything to convince invis as sheep managed to talk him into the impossible.

The only thing i could think of was getting invis to elim sheep today. As in that gamestate sheep is always scum even if you wernt town
