Unfortunately I am also a Zoomer with a short attention span so I will pivot the story back to Thomas.

Unfortunately, the vandals' attempt to erase the cassettes accidentally resulted in THE TIMELINE ITSELF being erased, and suddenly Thomas was once again on his way to view the local waterfall.

Fortunately, this time the waterfall was much taller and not a tripping hazard.

Fortunately, some other, more sympathetic FBI agents, who investigate weird or unexplained cases, were already tracking Thomas for the time travel thing and intercepted.

Unfortunately, those agents were assigned to weird and unexplained cases because they were incompetent.

Fortunately, the FBI defined sympathy for people being tracked as incompetence. They were otherwise skillful in the various disciplines needed to help Thomas.

Unfortunately, Thomas was afraid of the FBI agents and ran away when they tried to approach him.

Unfortunately, Thomas attended school and was on the track team with Mystery Inc. and picked up their weird running habit, which always seems to lead them back to what they were initially running from.
