Spoiler: So, how does this work exactly?

To partecipate, you should pick one* song that fits each category below. Here "song" is meant rather loosely to mean any piece of music.

Don't fret if you don't have a full set of perfect picks; for one thing I'll drop your lowest scorer,

and

I will generally err toward giving more point for category fitness as long as I can think of a silly argument to. The descriptions of the categories are left intentionally vague.

To submit, PM me on MS with the following format:

category 1: link/to/song1
[...]
catergory 8: link/to/song8

where the links point to the song. Youtube links are preferred (but please avoid youtu.be urls); but other sources are also perfectly fine, except that I don't have spotify.

I will randomize your submission in such a way that I won't know who sent me what song; I will apply a small point penalty if I guess the submitter correctly. The exact point system is detailed below, after the category list.

Please note that

you are allowed to change your submission at any point before the third reveal.

Spoiler: category 1: songs I like

Just submit something that you think I'll like.

To keep things interesting, I'm not going to actually explain what kind of songs I do like. I will say thou that most of the time I will read lyrics but also don't actually care about them.

Spoiler: category 2: weirdness

Here's a category for stuff that is just outright bizarre and alien. Feel free to interpret the prompt as you may.

Spoiler: category 3: boss fights

Or, songs that could be the soundtrack of a JRPG final boss. But with the caveat that I will score you 0 for category fitness if you submit a song from a game (or a remix of one)

Spoiler: category 4: panic

Stuff that elicit a sense of fear, uncanniness or panic. I will detract points if this is accomplished solely by the lyrics.

Spoiler: category 5: brown note

Send me something that should be objectively horrible to listen at, and yet for some unknown reason makes me want to suffer through listening to it again.

Spoiler: category 6: oneirism

Songs that, in some way, relate to the distorted mental condition experienced while dreaming. Either because it would the kind of sountrack one would hear in one's dream's background, or because listening to it induces a dream-like ambience.

Spoiler: category 7: uncommon instruments

Exactly what it sais on the tin: pieces that prominently feature the use of some uncommon instrument that wouldn't be expected of their genres.

Spoiler: category 8: grab bag

This is a special category subdivided in multiple subcategories. When submitting,

only pick one

and specify which subcategory you have picked. I will give some additional points to players submitting the least popular subcategory.

Spoiler: subcategory 8a: mash

For this, you need to submit

two or three

songs. I will play them all at the same time, and cut them as soon as the first one finishes; if you want, you may specify a timestamp at which to start each song. Obviously, the better they sound toghether, the better the category fitness.

Non pirate-themed songs that make me think of golden-age pirates.

Spoiler: subcategory 8c: alchemy

a song that is reminiscent of one of the five classical elements (Earth, Water, Air, Fire, Æther/Quintessence).

Point System

Spoiler:

• Each song will receive a
  Enjoyment score (E)
  in a scale from 0 to 30. This just signifies how much I liked the song.
  
• Each song will receive a
  Fitness score (F)
  in a scale from 0 to 30. This signifies how much I think the song fits the category.
  
• Each song's
  Honest score (H)
  is a number from 0 to 30 calculated in the following way:
  
  H=(3E+2F)/5
  
  
• Each song will receive a
  Unfamiliarity score (U)
  between -4 and +4. High scores mean the song is completely unfamiliar to me. I will likely not go below 0 unless it's a song that I've heard multiple times.
  
• Each song may receive a number of
  Bonus points (B)
  by winning medals, as described below. Some medals confer negative points.
  
• The
  final Score (S)
  of each song is calculated in the following way:
  
  S=H+U+B-x
  where x is 1 if I guess the submitter correctly, and 0 otherwise.

First/Second/Third best Fitness score

-- given to the songs that fit the category best; worth 4/3/2 points.

Dead last

-- given to the song, if there is any, that has both the lowest enjoyment score and the lowest fitness score; worth 3 points.

Lost Wanderer

-- given to songs that I think would fit better in another category; worth -1 points.

Obscurity

-- given to songs that aren't on Youtube; worth 1 point (this is mostly to counterbalance the fact that I will likely find it harder to anonymise such submissions)

Nonconformism

-- given to the song in category 8 that is in a subcategory nobody else has picked; worth 4 points.

Hipster

-- given to songs in category 8 that are in the least popular subcategory, provided they are not awarded the Nonconformism medal; worth 2 points.

Moreover, there are a bunch of secret medals that will be revealed as soon as some song wins them:

Anagraphism (+1):

for songs that fit the category's

name

more than its actual description

Laser Scope (-0.75):

the name of the song suggests that it should fit the category.

Uno pro puncto...

(-0.5):

for songs that, not considering this medal, would need 0.1 points or less to have the best Final Score.

Lapidarity (+0.1):

for songs lasting less than 2 minutes.

Ultra Lapidarity (+0.2):

for songs lasting less than 1 minute.

Ibis Redibis

(+10 Fitness points):

for submissions that miss the intended category, but ace a completely unintended one, technically allowed by the category's name.

Δ (+1.5):

for songs with a 7-points delta (or greater) between their Enjoyment and Fitness score.

The late bird gets no worm (-10):

for songs that were submitted at the very last moment

I didn't put an expected time yet since I will need to wait to have a credible amount of players to start and I don't really have an idea how much it would take. But anyway, assuming it will be possible, the plan is to start in the second half of october

Lol I'm not colorblind I'm just stupid but thanks for the consideration. It's more like a purple now that I compare it with the normal username color (Haschel's would be a light blue)

Edit: yeah I use MafSilver, I had to look back how it looks in MafBlack and there is much more obvious; in MafSilver, the normal registered username is what I would call blue
