It’s really repetitive. I like how in the first part there’s the scratchy thing at the end of the measure. I don’t really feel energized at all either, there’s no real build-up and the contrast between the different instruments is too great. Enjoyment: 3.5/10, Fit: 3/10

Skygazer:

I quite like the guitar and verses at the beginning. This could totally be an electric guitar rock song. I don’t like the screaming in the chorus. It sounds really stupid. Enjoyment: 7/10, Fit: 8/10

I really don’t like this song, it’s really not my thing, and I haven’t listened to enough music to rate stuff semi-objectively like schadd but I really really dislike this song. I would give my enjoyment of it a 0 if it was really terrible but I liked a little bit of it. I see my 10 year old sister watching music videos like this. It’s kind of energetic though. Enjoyment: 1/10, Fit: 4/10.

I liked that it’s swingy. I guess that’s in the genre name isn’t it. I feel like I’d listen to this while doing a slightly fast-paced leisure activity, not in the gym. It’s not actively unenergetic. Maybe I’d listen to this if I was jogging. It’s repetitive but I like the sounds that repeat so it gets a pass. Enjoyment: 6/10, Fit: 3/10

description: send me something that sounds like its out of place temporally (ie: it feels like it's from a different time period than when it was actually made, or evokes multiple different time periods). i think i'm a bit more likely to find interest in material that was forward-thinking for its time, but that isn't a guarantee!

this one is all over the place! it might be kind of cheating because some of the material was recorded in the 80s, but this song was produced and released in 2019, well after davis' death. as such, i feel like it sits in a weird place temporally; the technical production sensibilities are very modern, the aesthetics are very 80s, and some trumpet lines sound like they could be from the 50s or 60s if the backing instrumentation was different.

i'm not going to lie, i hate vulfpeck. but this song looks towards the past in two different ways by combining retro funk and baroque music. also it's kinda catchy, so i thought it'd make for a good example!
