Application Deadline: Tuesday, October 17th at 11:59 PM EDT
Game Start: Friday, October 20th at 8:45 PM EDT
Projected End Date: Sunday, December 10th, 2023

NOTE: PLEASE READ RULE {31} As it contains important information for the format of this game.

{ GENERAL RULES }

{01} This is a game. The main objective is to have a roarin' good time; no excessive flaming, spamming, or otherwise being a jerk. Toxicity and personal attacks by players (whether they're still in the game or have been eliminated) or by spectators will not be tolerated.
{02} This is a game. The secondary objective is to win.
{03} We are not infallible, so if we make a moderating mistake, please point it out and we will correct it if needed.
{04} We have worked extensively to produce a game that is enjoyed by all involved. As such, we promise to offer each player respect but expect to be shown the same in return. We also expect you to respect all other players.
{05} Survivor: Lights Camera Action is ANONYMOUS. All participants are strictly prohibited from so much as hinting to their own identities or implying another player's identity. This DOES NOT include your confessional. If you are talking with other people outside of this forum, you must not state or imply that you are playing in this game. If you are talking with other players on this forum, try not to say anything that would allow people to easily ID you. Communication outside the private message system is also forbidden until otherwise stated. Failure to follow this rule can result in a variety of consequences ranging from a terse warning to one's elimination from the game. We reserve the right to determine the severity of possible infractions.
{06} Exercise common sense. If you are unsure as to whether an action conflicts with the rules, ask. Yes, this is a competition, but do not attempt to undermine challenges or game mechanics for your own gain. This violates both the spirit of the game and common respect mentioned above. If intentional cheating occurs, you will punished accordingly.
{07} Private communication with players outside of your tribe or eliminated players is strictly prohibited unless otherwise stated. PMs are only to be used for communication within your tribe unless otherwise specified. Spectators ARE NOT "in your tribe"--don't message them. Any player found in violation of this rule will be penalized.
{08} Any and all posting about this game outside the provided forums unless SPECIFICALLY STATED is illegal.
{09} The posting of Private Messages (whether via text (paraphrasing is fine) or via image) in a public forum is explicitly disallowed. You may, however, post them in your confessional. You are also prohibited from taking a screenshot of private messages and showing them to other players. Forwarding is not allowed. Quoting is NOT allowed in Private Messages, as is pretending to quote. You may paraphrase, and you may also quote very short snippets, like you might in a real conversation. If you have any questions about what does and does not constitute "quoting" or "paraphrasing", ask the Executive Producers.
Don't show other players screenshots of anything in your confessional, any challenge scores, or any game information they do not already have access to, which includes items.

{10} This forum software allows group PMs to be created. You are free to use those; go hog wild.
{11} The Executive Producers may discipline any player that breaks the rules however we see fit, depending on the specific situation. We also reserve the right to implement new rules if needed.
{12} If you have any issues that cannot be resolved by the Executive Producers, or if the Executive Producers are breaking rules, please report that to Mufasa, aka Cephrir.
{13} Although this game takes place on an off-site forum, that forum is considered an exclave of Mafiascum.net. All MS conduct rules will apply as well as punishments for breaking them.

{GAME MECHANICS}

IMMUNITY CHALLENGES

{14} Winners of Immunity Challenges will be safe from elimination and cannot be voted out at the Tribal Council during that particular round. Note that giving away the Immunity Necklace is allowed, but only for the first 12 hours of a Tribal Council, and once passed it cannot be passed again. if the necklace is passed, an additional 24 hours will be added to the clock.
{15} The outcomes of all Challenges are final, except in case of incorrect tallying by the Executive Producers. if you see something we may have missed please bring it up, the Executive Producers will listen to you.
{16} We appreciate the fact that prospective players will enter this game with a range of skills. With this in mind, understand that we as Executive Producers can't cater to all players' needs and time constraints in challenges. We will, however, consider extreme circumstances brought to our attention making judgment calls if need be.
{16a} Unless otherwise stated, you MAY NOT USE OUTSIDE RESOURCES FOR ANY CHALLENGE.
{16b} Unless otherwise stated, you may not discuss any part of any immunity challenge with other players.

TRIBAL COUNCIL

{17} Tribal Councils are where players are voted out. Before the merge, only the losing tribe or tribes will visit Tribal Council, and will vote at least one player off. After the merge, all remaining players will go to Tribal Council, including immunity challenge winners.
{17a} When three players remain, the group of players voted out from a predetermined point on, the jury, will vote for who they want to win the game instead of who to eliminate.
To be explicit, this game is a Final 3.

{18} On a general basis, our goal is to ensure Tribal Councils last 24 hours from the end of the challenge, but may change at the Executive Producers discretion if need be. PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO THE TIMER WHEN POSTED. if a player fails to submit a vote within the given time frame, they will receive a publicly known self-vote. in the event that a player knows he or she will be unable to vote by deadline, that player may notify the Executive Producers and cast a conditional vote to avoid penalization.
{19} The results of Tribal Councils will not be posted before the deadline.
{19a} Unless an extension has been given, votes made after the deadline expires will not be counted, even if Executive Producers are late to posting results.
{20} The modification of votes after they have been submitted is allowed. Please submit this as a new post, do not edit, edits might be missed. Players are able to change their votes as many times as they want until the deadline expires.
{21} If a player has failed to vote three times, the Executive Producers may choose to eliminate that player at their discretion.

BREAKING TIES

{22} In the event of an initial tie, a revote shall take place. Players may only vote for one of the tied players, and all tied individuals may not vote. Reward items may not be used in this revote, but any reward items that have already been played WILL remain in play.
{22a} If a revote is necessary to break a tie, 24 hours will be added to the clock.
{23} If a majority is not met in the revote, all tied players and immune players become instantly immune and the remaining players will draw rocks for elimination. Note that this applies even if, say, a three-way tie becomes a two-way tie. In this scenario, only the players in the two-way tie would be immune for the rock draw. in a Final 4 TC, rocks will not be drawn, and tied players will participate in a tiebreaker challenge.
{23a} IF at any point in the game ALL players are ineligible to be voted for, we will end the TC, any items played at that TC will count as being played and will be lost.
We then go into a fresh new round and a new challenge (an already created backup challenge) All players will play for immunity as per normal and then we go into a TC as per normal
{23b} IF at any point in the game ALL BUT 2 players are ineligible to be voted for (and they are tied for votes), we will go to a revote. If in the revote it is still a tie then the 2 players who are tied for will go straight into the fire-making challenge.

TWISTS AND ITEMS

{24} Twists will be implemented without warning or provocation throughout the game. The time and setting of each twist has already been determined, so as to neither give an unfair advantage or disadvantage to a player or group of players. These twists may cause some non-traditional eliminations to take place.
{25} There will be items in this game which can give players advantages in the game. The use of all items should be posted in your Voting Thread, but we will accept other means of communication as well. One type of item is the Hidden Immunity Idol, which is a special item guaranteed to exist in the game. The rules for how these advantages work will come with them.
{26} Hidden Immunity Idols can be played at Tribal Council to nullify all votes against a given player. You may give them to another player at any time. You may also play them on other players without their consent, as well as on yourself.
{27} Conditional idol and item plays are allowed. You can play idols or items in response to the playing of other idols or items (not in response to votes). For example, you could write, "play my idol on myself if an idol is played on Hal or a item takes my vote away." Note that some powers may not be possible to respond to, such as an extra vote that is not announced before the reading of the votes.
{28} The Executive Producers will not answer hypothetical questions about any item or item which is not guaranteed to exist from your POV. That is, we will answer questions about an item or power if you have ever possessed it, or if its existence is public information (as in the case of the Idol).
{29} You may transfer items to other players unless they specifically indicate otherwise. Ordinarily, you may transfer items only to players in your Tribe. However, you may transfer an item to a player not on your tribe by posting in bold in a challenge thread while the challenge is ongoing, "I transfer an item to (player)." In essence, it's like you're blatantly walking up to them during the challenge and doing something suspicious where everyone can see you. You are allowed to do this and then not actually transfer an item, but it allows you to transfer an item to that player at any time until the challenge ends.
{30} Some items may effect the round they are played in significantly (on the same scale of transferring the immunity necklace). In this case they will only be playable in the first 12 hours of the phase and extend the phase by 24 hours.

PLOT TWISTS

{31} Plot Twists are the primary (but not sole) method through which twists will be implemented throughout the game. At predetermined points during the game, the Executive Producers will reveal 3 potential twists for the following round.
All 3 twists will start with 1 entry in a raffle, and all living players (unless otherwise specified) will be allowed to vote for a twist in their decision booth to add an entry for that twist. AFTER TRIBAL COUNCIL one entry will be randomly drawn of the current living players votes (unless otherwise specified) and that twist will be implemented.
Furthermore, when merge occurs, players will be able to cast 2 votes with respect to the plot twists. These twists range from simply adding items in the game, to changing communication methods, to even changing the format of the game. However they will only affect the round they occur in, unless otherwise specified.

RETURNEES

{32} There will be exactly 1 permanent returnee twist in the game. It will occur premerge and permanently return two eliminated players to the game. Those returnees will be immune the round they return and be given power over a major decision in the game.

MISCELLANEOUS

{33} If you need an extension at any point in the game please inform an Executive Producer and we will do our best to accommodate you, no questions asked. Please inform us at the earliest possible time, but please don't abuse this rule. If the request comes in less than 2 hours before results (whether challenge or TC) we may not be able to accommodate this. Likewise if you know you're going to be away from the game for longer than 24 hours please inform us so we can plan ahead.
{34} If for whatever reason you cannot do a challenge please inform us and we will attempt to find a suitable alternative or stand in if we can accommodate. We ask that you contact the Executive Producers directly so that we can plan accordingly.

Survivor: Lights Camera Action - A Postmortem

Intended to do this before the holidays but unfortunately did not. Gonna focus mainly on the Twists, Items and Challenges for Survivor: LCA on what worked and what didn't.

Twists

Section 1: Plot Twists

Overall I'm pretty happy with how this mechanic turned out. A vast improvement over Pantheon at least. While there were clear favorites for some votes, usually the less popular options got some votes, and some of those were put in with an expectation that their chances would be slim, but their possible existence might cause something interesting to happen (not sure anything like that did happen though). I am a bit sad that it was always the entry that had the most votes (or was tied for the most votes) that won each time though. But let's look at how the actual twists panned out.
  • Plot Twist 1 Meet Cute: This twist went pretty well. Only 3 long term chats were formed (and unfortunately two of those had members voted out pretty soon after), the third did help a power duo that was only undone by a medevac. I'm not sure the items were used all that often, but the cases where they were used were great. Overall the twist went well but votes and the like did make it have less impact than it could have.

  • Plot Twist 2 Doppelgangers: This was the most dramatic twist and honestly, I kind of loved it. The potential plans of throwing to go into TC was always going to be an idea and it led to a TC that definitely shaped the rest of the game since it drastically changed Scott's trajectory in the game (and his return from redemption was greatly entertaining).

  • Plot Twist 3 Now This is Podracing: This was my favorite of the redemption formats. Everyone had a chance to have their voices heard and social game did matter. Napoleon and Scott were both great returnees in very different ways and the dramatic shift off of Groot at the last moment was very wild. My only misgivings have less to do with the twist but more that a significant number of returnees logged off and didn't really stick around in the redemption area. It might have been better to give them an active game that would result in returning or maybe even take some elements from the hole in barely survivor so they'd have more reason to remain engaged before the returnee twist.

  • Plot Twist 4 Back to the Basics: Was a simple double tribal, my person least favorite of the potential twists, but I understand why it was popular. The biggest thing of note here was that the challenge had to be swapped due to Proboards errors, but that had nothing to do with the twist.

  • Plot Twist 5 High Noon: The second most dramatic twist easily. This twist did result in the players end up "hacking" it because everyone ended up swapping votes which kept them both safe. As such it probably wouldn't be great to do again in a game unless that behavior is somehow patched out (or the twist being a total surprise after TC, which would have to be bastard). Still it resulted in a dramatic duel for Jim Hawkins, who put it all on the line for a shot at immortality, and got it in a way, just not the way he preferred.

  • Plot Twist 6 It Was All A Dream: This twist was fine. It wasn't Method Acting that would have been hilarious and it wasn't Night of the Living Dead which would have been very scary for some players (which is the reason we mentioned it so early compared to other plot twist votes). It happened to end up protecting the two players who did the best in the challenge, which was a happy coincidence. I will say that this combo'd with one of the items that heavily disadvantaged Napoleon. It was a niche situation but I do wish it wasn't possible. Most of the items were dead by now so destroying them didn't do much overall.
Section 2: Other Twists

  • Pods Twist: Some players found this twist overwhelming, but I do think that it ended up serving as the basis for many relationships and led to opening tribes being more complex than they already were (and led to a dramatic first tribe for Frank G, who had few connections but worked his way up into a very strong position). I would not mind seeing some other form of this twist with maybe fewer people to message, like 8 instead of like 12. Would just be like messaging a large starting tribe instead of a large merge.

  • Tribe Draft/Different Elimination Methods per Tribe: This was pretty fun. A lot of people ended up on drama because people preferred the other elimination methods and a lot of people picked challenge A over the others. This did lead to something I feared a little in that Drama kept going to tribal so aside from the very first elimination round we didn't get much action on the other tribes, but that was more due to some bad luck since the challenges were very different and Drama could have won a couple with slightly different moves. Another multi elimination round would have been possible but made it even more likely a tribe got decimated.

  • Item given to the worst challenge performer on each tribe(Secret): We did let players know items would be out based on challenge performance but not more than that. I will say that since the items were drafted across tribes it was very quickly revealed who had items and what those items might be. It definitely made it hard to keep the items secret so maybe it would have been best not to reveal that information. It did however lead to an extra-ordinary lie about Sidney's Item which would pay off several items. I did also like the items went to the worst performing players here.

  • Returnees Picking Tribes (Swap): I think this went well. Any situation where players are picking tribes can be very dangerous since they may end up gerrymandered to just help the majority. However, with returnees this is generally fine since they are very likely to not be in the majority and thus need all the help they can get in order to not just be revolving doored. This also led to Scott Pilgrim negotiating the tribes to be how he wanted, which helped him and Napoleon greatly as they both made merge (and Napoleon even reached the F3).

  • Deal with the Devil Auction: I think this went okay. The mechanics of the auction made it very likely someone would just go all out to get an item, and that item would be pretty bad. More talk about that it in the items section. Still making it clearer how things were resolved earlier might have been better, since methodology definitely resulted in slightly better items being given out than others (since we removed the winners bids from the items they didn't win simultaneously rather than in some order).

  • Risk/Reward Challenge: This went fine, the item wasn't that powerful and it didn't have any huge implications on the rest of the game though.
Items

This game had a lot of items. Some of them had a lot more impact than others and players talked to each other a lot, so much so that only like...two items ended up being actually secret. One of those was due to the challenge item twist, but the rest was just people talking about them. Anyway, the items.
  • Amulets:
So these amulets had the potential to be powerful, but only if all the winners managed to get together. One amulet went home with Paprika, and the other two were just played as extra votes during tribals to seal results. Overall these were absolutely fine and I still agree it was best to give them out to the first member of each of the sorted tribes rather than the winner of each challenge, since it meant no tribe would have an obvious power imbalance to start.

  • First Idol and Half-Idol:
So the only issue here is that while the idol here was solvable, it was hard to parse and there was a typo that made the meaning harder to determine, but not imposibble. Also the methodology to give a full idol to the first to solve and a half idol to the second (and an item that did nothing to the everyone else) was sound, but a message that nothing else was there would be better and did lead to some confusion on if Napoleon's idol was real. The Half-Idol did save birdie for a round, but unfortunately it didn't change her fate. Meanwhile Napoleon probably should have played his idol round 1, but did use it to bargain himself back into the game during the redemption twist.

  • Love Letters:
Some fascinating uses of these did occur. Frank G reaching out to Sidney and King Ghidorah's hilarious message to Rapunzel come to mind here. They were nice to have and wouldn't mind them being a starter item in future games.

  • Handcuffs:
Jim and Marty solved an idol hunt that gave them a way to talk to each other and pass items. While I love this item, it didn't really result in anything this game. Marty ended up dying premerge, and while Jim maybe could have organized to send over an idol with perfect information, it was unlikely to happen at that stage of the game.

  • Vote Storing Box:
This item didn't get a lot of use but had a profound effect on the game. Groot openly stated he was planning to bank his vote at a tribal leading to a series of events that sent Groot home. Managing the greed of banking a vote always was going to be the main thing to contend to with this item, and in a way, I'm glad it led to such an iconic tribal.

  • Challenge Item Idol:
So Sidney never needed this idol until far after it expired. But the lie told about it did help Sidney greatly down the line.

  • Glass Sarcophagus (Safety Without Power):
King G earned this item and gave it Po to use in a round he didn't have a vote. I'm not sure it changed anything that round but it did further cement Po and King G's relationship.

  • Cursed Items:
These items ended up with all or almost all the negative attributes. This led to some very funny circumstances, most notably Scott Pilgrim including a Dark Crystal reference in EVERY post for a day and Rosemary having to watch the same bad movie TWICE. The spellbook was used well (given a 24 extra practice to Rosemary's alliance on cribbage), but some misunderstanding about the plot twists led to it being less impactful than they expected. The gloves unfortunately went unused, but their spectre impacted the game. Perhaps the wildest thing was that the Cursed Idol was so cursed it became more useful at time to send it to someone else so they wouldn't vote in a revote than to actually play it. Po did eventually play it and that was fun. Openly Cursed Items are fun, but it's hard to include them in any games less than complex and if they're too cursed you need to include rules that allow players to NOT accept them.

  • Merge Idol and Swan:
The biggest thing about these items was that Napoleon slightly altered what the swan did, but neither impacted the game much as the Merge Idol was played a round or two early and there was never rocks in the game, with or without the swan.
Challenges

In general I think the challenges went well. There were a few things out of our control that went wrong. The one real issue is that due to some of the plot/other twists requiring Individual challenges to work, a lot fewer early challenges had tribal challenges that were group focused. The tradeoff was likely worth it, but if I did this again I'd try to be able to design at least one more group focused challenge premerge. I will say that with some challenges it felt they were just a tad too easy for the players that won them, but it's far better than the past where challenges have been calibrated in a way that only half the cast finished them.

Another note is that while word filters were helpful, they're best used if you are linking an image or very short instructions, since there is a word limit. We were able to word filter to a link for longer instructions but it was annoying every time it happened. Also commands like Lists are your friends for formatting word filters. The main downside was more that Proboards was finnicky at times and having challenges google form based get around issues where the site goes down during a challenge attempt. Though it does make it harder for specs to see challenge attempts.
  • Sorting Challenges:
No big issues aside from the fact that Semantris was by far the most popular game compared to Tetris, but the twist accounted for such a possibility. All seemed fined to use.

  • Music and Lyrics:
No major difficulties here. I'd certainly like to do a harder and bigger version where the entire tribe can work on it at one time but it worked pretty well as an individual challenge and I think players enjoyed it.

  • Cutting Room Floor:
No major issues here either (this will be a trend). There were some people who failed the challenge but not too many and it didn't take too much time so the calibration was on point. Only note is make sure you have a mod with rudimentary video editing skills before penciling this challenge.

  • Casting Begins:
The hints about the actors was a major aspect of this that changed it a lot form just being Guess Who and I'm glad we added it. It seemed to be a lot of fun for the guessers, but the cluegiver often had to wait a long time without knowing if their team was on the right track at all. A worthwhile concession but something that needed to be noted. Did have a wild moment where the Drama tribe just needed to ask a clarifying question to dominate the competition but didn't and instead placed last.

  • F is For Fake:
I liked the idea of this challenge but 1: It was a pain to come up with examples and there was bound to be some confusion and partial credit needing in grading. I certainly think it would have been improved greatly if I just said everything was fake from the start and for people to give reasons why. Nothing disastrous for a first time being run, but that was greatly helped by the winners being unambiguous even with partial credit.

  • Now Directed by J.J Abrams:
I enjoyed making these posters (making the key and the posters was time consuming though) and while maybe you could make it a little harder, it turned out pretty well overall.

  • Wire Dilemma:
Making the assets and the manual took time, but I was very happy with this challenge. The chatzy's were barely used after the challenge attempts, but they actual attempts I think definitely were immersive and good for bonding. More challenges like this, they are effort to make but are well worth it in the end.

  • The Dark Bridges Return:
This challenge might need to be retired. It's a fine challenge, and was good for the returnee challenge, but Po's dominance did make it clear anyone with knowledge of graph theory will just dominate and make the results more a foregone conclusion.

  • Hal's Labyrinth:
This was great as a tribal challenge. No notes. It was cooperative and competitive overall. It was a lot of work to make and make sure everything was right but well worth.

  • Rhythm Game:
On the one hand, we did I'm Just Ken stuck in many people's heads. However, this was an alternate challenge after proboards going down messed up the ongoing attempt of the first challenge. It was meant to only show up for the Choose Your Tribal plot twist, and there was a reason for that. Unlike the primary challenge, rhythm games feel a bit more "either you are good at them or not" and certainly was worse for some players than the original challenge. It still went fine, but it was unfortunate to swap at all.

  • Collaborative Writing:
This challenge was excellent. I was worried for a bit as one player had to sub out (and later essentially medevaced) but xof was able to step in and save the day. It felt like it was a good bonding experience overall and produced some hilarious stories players could share afterward. Definitely would run this again.

  • That Belongs in a Museum:
The idea for this challenge was fine, but it was brute forceable and our rules did allow for that brute forcing to be prepared in advance if you could guess what we were going to make the list. Leaving only a few items that had to be gotten normally. Definitely would work with a different methodology like allowing only 1 item per post or something like that to make brute forcing harder.

  • High Noon:
Cribbage is a fun game and for a 1v1 I think it was fun. Po won, but Jim put up a good fight. Maybe it might have been better to use a more obscure game, but it felt appropriate to use a game that was actually played in the old west.

  • Plot Thickens:
As far as these "if you took notes as the game progressed you have a significant advantage" challenges go, I think this went well. Plenty of people did well (and a few also did quite poorly) but it wasn't an auto win for anyone.

  • Face/Off:
A fun game, but I know why it's usually a tribal challenge. Running so many of these at once was only possible cause there were multiples mods with days open, and players only barely completed it in the time frame. The skill displayed by Alberto here was immaculate and worth running it just for that tbh, but only just. Definitely something to save for a tribal challenge since it seems the difference in time between an individual attempt and a tribal attempt is not as much as you'd think.

  • Sell Me This Pen:
I liked this challenge quite a lot. The concept of different pitches for some horrifying items is great and I'd definitely run this again. However I will say that the number of items needed to be cut down or the rubric needed to be simpler. Creating the judging form took so much time, it was a labor of love. Also being ID and medium agnostic made it so we couldn't really share the pitches afterward which is always a shame, and probably could have made judging more comparable to just declare a medium. I'm proud of what was produced and I believe most of the players had fun (but certainly not all) but definitely room for improvement.

  • Every Frame A Painting:
So, this challenge was an alternate for a live challenge we were not able to run, and I really liked how it played out. More than one source video (and not all listed videos being used) complicated the find the frame formula in a way that added something. The main issue here was just that apparently you need to be extra certain to be several frames into a timecode, cause youtube can load and be off by a single frame. No one knew this, now we know. It did lead to a tiebreaker that was perhaps a bit too devious, but I'm more happy than not with how this went all things considered.

  • Race Against the Clock:
I loved coming up with game related tasks for this challenge, testing them, and mostly, seeing people complete them. This challenge came down to the wire with players completing a sizeable number of tasks, but certainly not all of them. It came down to a single answer being wrong for a single task, but it was unambiguous who won. It was a very fitting Final Immunity Challenge.
Miscellaneous/Final Thoughts

When I first set out to make this game a reality, my thought was to look at Pantheon and see what I could improve on. The main notes were challenge difficulty and making the twists matter more and be less painful. I think it succeeded at that. It was a thrill ride to mod and watch and Snakes was a very worthy winner (and it was great to see the journeys of Searl from someone who we weren't sure how long they'd last to almost winning, and watching Balki B go from first boot to finalist). Also will definitely recommend a spec discord to anyone who is on the fence. While I do think that it means the on site spec forum is less populated, there was far more game discussion (and other discussions) that happened in the discord than ever happen in the on site ones.

Also having the jury forum open during FTC seemed overall a good thing. Less stifling for the jury and I think it made everyone engage a bit more and be able to push back when jurors were tunneling a bit. Definitely needs to be monitored but I don't think it compromises anything and only adds to the experience.

If any other thoughts crop up I'll put them here, but hopefully this was informative to anyone who is reading it now and feel free to add your thoughts below, though it's a bit weirder to mention that this late.

the pods twist is kind of a new spin on the traveling groups twist from GOT (at least, that's the first use of it i'm aware of) which was also seen in equestria among others. my observation has been that it adds to the game every time i've seen it, often involving players who otherwise would have been destined for activity boots becoming much more relevant!
