Requirements for joining games:
There are no requirements for joining newbie games and moderators may not take pre-ins or deny sign-ups. There are two ways to join the newbie queue. As a newbie or as a semi-experienced player. Players must join with their main account, hydra or alt accounts are not allowed in Newbie Series games.
Joining games as a Newbie:
Newbies can join games by replying to this thread with a post indicating they would like to play the next game as a newbie. Posting something like "/in as a newbie" or similar is all that is necessary.
Players can join as newbies with one of the following criteria:
- Players playing their first mafia game
- Players new to the site with 4 completed games or less
- Players returning to the site with the last completed game over two years ago may join as a newbie for up to two additional games
If you change your mind after signing up for a game and before the game begins, you need to post "/out" to indicate that you no longer wish to play the game. If you have signed up for more than one game in this queue, please specify somehow which game you are removing yourself from.
Joining games as a Semi-Experienced Player:
Semi-experienced players can join games by replying to this thread with a post indicating they would like to play the next game as a semi-experienced player. Posting something like "/in as a SE" or similar is all that is necessary.
Players can join as a semi-experienced player if they meet the following criteria:
- Have at least two completed games on-site
- Have played one game outside of a Newbie Series
- Are a member of the community with positive standing
Semi-Experienced (SE) players are our ambassadors of newbie series games. We expect SE players to go above and beyond in representing games on MafiaScum by being helpful and courteous to new players. SEs should not bring negativity to newbie series games and should take extra pre-caution in following game and site rules. SE players are encouraged to explain common concepts, abbreviations, site customs, etc. patiently to new players on-site. While all players are expected to advance their win-conditions, SE players are expected to not use tactics or language that would be discouraging for new players in persuit of their win conditions.
We recommend players playing their first game only sign-up for one game until they have completed it. Getting acclimated to the MafiaScum community and way it plays is important and overloading yourself with multiple games when you're new may lead to a negative experience.
Each player can be active in a total of only eight games of ten or more players at a time. Hydras and alt accounts count toward this limit. While it's helpful to keep track of this yourself, Listmods will have a list, and we can let you know. If a player dies in an ongoing game, that player is considered released and is free to sign up for another.
There is no limit to how many Micro games a player can be active in simultaneously (nine or fewer players). However, keep in mind that excessive flaking out or replacing out will likely result in restrictions from joining new games until a player shows they can handle playing multiple games responsibly.
Both newbies and SEs are required to meet minimum activity requirements. Players should be prepared to play the game at the scheduled start time and confirm their Role PM within 24 hours. All players are required to read and confirm their Role PM to their game moderator. Players should post game advancing content at minimum once a day. Game advancing content for players might include posting thoughts on the game, thoughts on other players, reads, etc. This is not an exhaustive list.
While posting once a day is the minimum requirement it is recommended that you post more frequently than that as players in this community will expect more from you. While we can't recommend a specific requirement, in general you might want to check the game a few times a day, respond to multiple players, and keep up with reading new posts even if you don't always respond to them. Remember that the other players in the game are likely to play and post with or without your presence. Players who don't keep up with posts in the thread may find themselves overwhelmed when they do check in as they will naturally have a larger percentages of posts to read than a player who keeps current. The website is mobile friendly and many players on MafiaScum choose to follow and play games on mobile devices.
There isn't a recommended post length but you should understand that different players have different styles. Some players might write out long posts with lots of quotes from the thread. Some players might quote posts individually and respond to them one at a time. Some players might make short length but frequent posts in the threads. Some players might mix these styles together during the course of the day.
