Resignation & Some Personal Thoughts

Hi all.

I have been on this website a really long time. My account is old enough to vote, though I’m not sure my skill at mafia represents that fact terribly well. I’ve decided that it’s time to step down and step away, and I’m gonna use this space to do some reflecting.

In that 18 years, my life has changed a great deal. Honestly, being associated with MS is one of very few things that HASN'T changed for me. While not busy being a funny internet wolf/warthog/raccoon, I've gotten away from my stifling parents, discovered that I actually like people and feelings, met a wonderful man I intend to spend the rest of my life with, and blossomed into a completely different and, to my mind, greatly improved person.

I'm grateful for this site, the mod team (who are good people trying their best, by the way, please don’t believe anything different) and the community. MS was the first place I was openly queer, and the acceptance I found here enabled me to start moving towards coming out in real life.

A big part of my time here has been the LSG part of the site. That, too, has changed a great deal since I found it. We’re probably better off without the… tumultuous… Skype chatroom, but that was one of the first places I ever felt at home. xofelf was my first internet friend worth mentioning. And I have a lot of fond memories of big LSG moments, as well as the little ones created by people just being their lovely selves. Above all, I really treasure the handful of folks who have somehow managed to penetrate my antisocial bubble and become genuinely part of my life.

It is no secret that I met my husband Save The Dragons here. You ever think about how basically everyone you know is in your life only because of a sequence of happenstances? This is my biggest one. It is absolutely staggering to consider that I just so happened to run into someone who is about as close to perfect for me as it's possible to be, being as kind, loving, funny and handsome as he is, and that he by some miracle guessed that we could be more than friends when my dumb ass hadn't the slightest clue and had never been on a date in my life at age 22. I’m not gonna write a whole love letter here, since I can just do that in real life. Probably none of them will ever read this, but I have to thank Snakes, Betch and CC for running the game where we met (for real, anyway; STD running my first Newbie game, while a very fun fact, doesn’t count). I am also thankful for whatever bizarre cosmic force caused me to hallucinate an incorrect deadline for the only time in my entire Survivor career and vote myself out, since I won so much by losing. I have literally no idea what my life would look like without this one online game, which I only knew about because of a long sequence of staggeringly random events involving a flash video my friend showed me in 2005.

This isn’t necessarily a complete goodbye, but it’s a goodbye for now. I’ll probably come back and play again sometime, though I’m hoping to make it at least a year. But essentially, I’ve reached a place in my life where I’m ready to move on from what was once my internet home. I have a real home now, my social life is centered elsewhere, and it’s time to focus on the things that bring me lasting joy.

You know I love you very much and I will always treasure the unique way we truly met. My life is so much better with you in it and while I'm sad to not see you here for a bit, I know how much a break would help you right now.

It is a shame that people here won't get to enjoy your presence. You are a uniquely sassy, yet caring and compassionate person. Hope to see you back soon but I am the lucky one here because I still get to see you every day

Ceph, I've enjoyed your presence on site and on the internet since my first non-Newbie game here, and I'm still trying to figure out how to read you!

You know, I don't think I realized this. I'd gladly do it again. You know I love you and so much of the appreciation and affection I have to say neither of us wants me to in public, but what I will say is thank you for everything you've given to the site and LSGs.
