International Mafia Month 2025

It's March 1st, which means we are formally, officially into International Mafia Month!

...You don't REALLY need new content here, right? Like, I'm going to be giving you brand new (as long as you pretend you didn't see many of the previous days!) content every day for a whole month, do you truly require an exciting well-written opening setting up an event you likely already know about and even if you are brand new to the site, is honestly pretty self-explanatory? I am a busy man, living both my real life life and also being admin of this website, I don't think I'll have time to write out a whole new paragraph introducing International Mafia Month. I did, after all, bring it back

, I'm sure if you search for that post or whatever you can find the information without me re-explaining it to you. Like I think the concept of "Every day, I will post a new theme day centered around celebrating this website and encouraging you to celebrate alongside me" speaks for itself.

Anyway, yeah, I think I'm pretty settled on just posting the thread and the new days and keeping it simple. Definitely not doing a joke where I do write a paragraph but it doesn't end up being long enough to be a funny parallel to the statements I am making in the paragraph.

No better time to invite someone to join the site than the first day of a gimmick month where there is brand new exciting content every day! So get out there and talk to people! Tell a friend about Mafia and/or mafiascum.net! Start up a face-to-face game. Invite someone give the forums a try. Create propaganda information flyers to put up in prominent places. When someone mentions Mafia, say you "know a guy" and give them my personal cell number. Write "MAFIA" in tiger's blood on the doors of the non-players. The possibilities are endless!

Don't forget we opened up the Discord for prospective members to get a taste for what we are about, so feel free to add anyone to it you think would enjoy it here but might be going "Ew, a web forum? In 2025?"!

So, I want to start by recognizing Aureal for the very lovely pm she sent me.

Second, I was kind of at a loss for this one. I have no problem complimenting people but reaching out privately is always scary for me. I never know if they’re going to respond or how they might respond. I thought I could just shout out people in this thread but then I started growing worried about who I might accidentally leave out.

I hate my life. Losing my mom was hard. Losing my wife after that broke me. If it wasn’t for my children I would probably have given up. I tried to put myself out there, came out, showed the world who I was. I was rejected by friends and family. In my darkest hours, the people who would “always be there” couldn’t be found. The only people left were my wife’s family.

I grew bitter and cynical, well more bitter and more cynical. I was already a bit of both to begin with. I retreated into myself and stopped trying to talk to anyone. Just sloththeholy mainly.

Otherwise I distract myself with various nerd stuff, or football, or watching YouTube videos, anything to distract me from my personal hell. I remembered playing mafia when I was younger and I thought it would be a nice distraction as well.

Immediately upon returning to the site Alianna reached out, letting me know I used the queue wrong, explaining how it worked, and inviting me to come to her if I had any questions. I found a game and within a couple weeks KayJayQueue reached out to me on Discord, helped get me in touch with GreedyBanger. I hate having to reach out to people, Kay reaching out to me, and not just that first time, but constantly afterwards, made me feel something I hadn’t felt in a while, like I had a friend who actually wanted to be my friend. Someone who talked to me because they wanted to, not because they felt they had to.

Since then I’ve gotten to know some pretty great people, DragonEater70, chibiyali, ketchup777, Gamma Emerald, Aureal, Elements, the worst. Participating in different community events such as SUPP and the Walruses (walrusi?) have given me an avenue to talk to even more.

It’s not just about the games, it’s like I found a community of people, that want me around. A community that I feel welcome in. A community that I have fun in.

Whether it’s AniX and the mod team keeping this place going and giving me the chance to make all these friends. Or people who I don’t talk to outside of games but who I always enjoy playing with, such as Enchant, Dunnstral, Hu Tao, Pooky, Firebringer, and so many more. Or people like Ythan who always have the most positive vibes. I love this site, this community, and all the different people who have made it special. You all deserve praise and I’m so sorry that I won’t remember everyone.

I might forget to talk about besties like Aureal, Marcistar, or Extasly. I might forget to call Immortal Techique a coward. I might forget people like Gimli, usesPython, Tangion, Gob, JakefromStateFarm, Isis, Taly, Kyouko, GrandpaMo, Black, etc. I might even forget Gamma Gooey, who 13 years after I had left the site, recognized me when I returned.

To all of those I forgot to mention, and all of those that I did mention, thank you for making this site and this community as amazing and as special as it is.

March 3- "Movie Mwagic" Day

Today is our first "Mish Mash Monday" for this International Mafia Month. Mish Mash encompasses the wide variety of activity interests we may have and is an important part of our site culture. This Day is named for VashtaNeurotic's rebooted Mish Mash Movie Mnight series where we watch a movie we picked out together on discord. It also represents the Mish Mash events we expect to see throughout this year.

Now, back to the actual suggestions for how to celebrate. Go suggest an animated movie for us to watch. Check out Lady Lambdadelta's new Only Connect Tournament concept and let her know if you're interested. Get those submissions in for the walrus of sense and smells if you want people to be hearing your songs in a future walrus stream on discord. Make any suggestions you have for new events in #mish-mash-discussion on the discord, or here in the thread.

I think we can also celebrate movie mwagic in general while getting more people egoing this thread. I have two suggestions on this: reply here telling us about a film you watched recently or film(s) that have made an impact on you. Also, I'm going to start up a quick round of the classic "Guess the Movie from the Screenshot" and hope some of you will join me. Reply with a still image from a movie or two for us to guess, and/or reply to others' posts with your guesses. (Maybe use spoiler tags for guesses?)

Well I just wanted to recommend two nice romantic comedies I watched recently:

Love Surreal - a very cute, super romantic movie about a love triangle with a twist
Love Switch - a husband and wife are growing apart but then suddenly swap bodies, Freaky Friday style, and then have to navigate each other's lives and comedy ensues.

Both very well recommended and both can be watched on YouTube for free!

On Saturday, we had you recruit new players. On Sunday, we had you show them how friendly we are. Today, it's the final part of the combo: Take those new players and make sure they have everything they need to succeed.
Last IMM, we were still mourning the loss of the Newbie Queue. This IMM, we get to celebrate its glorious return! It's great to be admin and be able to take credit for reviving things you yourself killed, isn't it?
So today, really make an effort to take some under your wing. If you see them struggling in a game, help them work through their theory and logic. If you see them being confused in Mafia Discussion, take a moment to answer their questions. If you see them in a thread (most especially our Newbie thread), say hello!

And of course, if you are a newbie, sign up at the Newbie Queue. And if you AREN'T a newbie, sign up to mod, SE, or Mentor in the Newbie Queue!
