March 15 - "Beware the 'Itles of March" Day

Titles are one of my favorite little quirks of Mafiascum, where users who have stood out from the crowd get a little marker of that contribution to the community. Think a user you know deserves the honor? Have a title you is exceedingly clever? Head to the Title Fairy thread and suggest one!

Mmmhmm. I'm sad I lost my passion for my job, but glad the reigns have been passed to someone who still has the passion.

In general I feel like the future of the site belongs in the hands of people who both have the passion for it and the ideas for it, and that wasn't me anymore.

March 16 - "Like Sand through the Hourglass, so are the Day Phases of our Lives" Day

As with any long-running community, Mafiascum has seen its users through their fair share of life changes. Take me for example! Everything I have done since I began puberty until now (standing here as a 36 year old lawyer) has been witnessed in some small part by the Mafiascum Community. And for many people, Mafiascum did more than that, with romances formed and even marriages made in threads of this forum.

What has Mafiascum seen YOU through? How are you different now than you were when you joined?

Technically speaking, if you go by when I first joined the website, I’ve gotten married, had 4 kids, and lost my wife and my mother. Though since all of that happened during my decade+ hiatus I’m not sure if it should count.

What has Mafiascum seen YOU through? How are you different now than you were when you joined?

Oh ye gods.

I was 14 when I joined back in 2008, so,

quite a lot

I shared I was trans on mafiascum back in 2014.
I learned a lot about my neurodivergency and later on my plurality through mafiascum.

Here is the site where I was able to first realize we're plural. It took a long, long time for me to explore our plurality, and it's still very much a mess to this day, but we wouldn't have gotten this far without mafia as a tool to sort through our mind and the mess thereof.

Mafia is where we got our first (and technically second but we don't like talking about the second) romantic partner from, who we remain good friends with to this day.

Mafiascum has seen me ping-pong between extreme naivety and idealism to extreme cynicism and entitlement and everywhere in-between the two, but despite the bad, has always helped foster a sense of growth, connection, learning, and understanding, with the networking being amazing!

Also while not mafiascum related, I got married to the love of my life. I can credit mafiascum for the necessary life experience to get me there, though.
It was through my experience on mafiascum that I was able to help my wife through the hardest time in their life. I genuinely saved the life of my wife by using my own life experience gained on mafiascum. Without the lessons I learned here, I don't think I would've been prepared to handle that and to successfully navigate with the needed empathy and love the challenges my wife was facing.

It was also indirectly what gave me the courage to confess my feelings and take initiative in our relationship. I had learned what the fear and passiveness had done to stop me from succeeding, and I really wanted to make the relationship work, so the experience I gained thanks to mafiascum helped get me to where I could.

Tomorrow will be my 16th actual Scumday from the account I joined with. I've changed a lot, and definitely so has the way we play games and treat each other here. I started off as a kid who didn't know how we were ever going to come to a decision in ELo in five weeks given the pace people were actually posting at! I would like to find the right time to dip my toes back in and see whether games these days are fun for me.

What has Mafiascum seen YOU through?

Honestly, some big highs and some significant lows. I've met over 80 MS people in person and I am one of the married-due-to-MafiaScum people referenced in the Day post, so safe to say being here really changed the course of my life.

I walked into MS as a college freshman who loved playing mafia in person and wanted a way to try to play it a little more "seriously" than as a party game. I was raised conservative and a bit of a hard-headed dingus about that because that was everything I was raised inside (rush limbaugh's magazine, fox news, all of it). MS exposed me to people outside of that bubble at a time in my life where I really needed it and really helped me push outside of that to be a better person.

I probably would have been banned in the new MS and would have deserved it through effects if not my intent at the time. So I'd like to thank the site for that (the old scumchatters, old GD, and just all the people who gave me patience when it wasn't clear if I would take anything from it).

A ton of stuff happened during my own 10-15 year hiatus from the site before I came back last year. I realized I'm bi, got married, moved jobs a couple times. And somehow found myself back here and recognizing enough people from my time to have it feel familiar.

Where to begin? I'll keep it short and just say I don't know I'd be here today without mafiascum. It's where I learned about plurality and trans things, it's where I met so many of my friends and acquaintances, and it's where I met my partner. This place has always had

something

that kept me coming back until I finally decided to really participate in things, and now it's my internet home. Thank you everyone, for being you.

March 17 - "Reality Check" Day

With us having managed to run somewhere in the ballpark of 100 Survivor games over the years, including five in-person ones, it's safe to say there's a good few reality competition show fans in the community. That, or at least people who find the idea of participating in that type of social experiment interesting to some degree! If there's any shows you want to discuss, you can always check into the Reality TV channels in the MS Discord.

Here is the discussion I would like to pose to the International Mafia Month thread today though: If you had to choose, what competition/reality TV show would you say you might fare best on as a contestant and why? Which ones would be a disaster for you?

Also, as far as LSGs you can sign up for right now, you could grab a final spot in Danganronpa (Class Trial-style Big Brother) or sign up as a replacement. March 18 - "Constant Vigilance" Day

The recent crisis (I forgot I was letting Ariel handle Mondays so I privately panicked and thought I missed a day) reminds us that we need to be ever-vigilant in keeping the site safe from the dreaded tiger threat to our servers. If you notice any suspicious activity, report it immediately. Review your Tiger Attack Emergency Plan regularly. Check your tiger traps. Spy on your neighbors to be sure they are not working for the enemy. And if you notice any glitches on the website these scoundrel tigers may have done, make sure to report it to your designated Tiger Defense Specialists (that's the mod team!)

But don't live your life in fear, either. Remember, if we stop playing Mafia because we're fearful of a tiger strike, the tigers have won.
