Mini #115 - Scalescum - Game Over

Post Post #0 (ISO) » Thu Jun 10, 2004 5:36 pm

Post by Scalebane »

Welcome, brave denizens.

There are traitors among us. Ones who would not have this strong country survive. Ones who will slowly kill us, however they can, in an effort to seize control of this land. Whether you are among those who support the current government, or whether you are one of those who wishes to see the government under their control. Your goal is the same. To be the last ones standing.

Bolded people have confirmed.
Living Denizens (3/12)

JDTay (replaces mikehart)

PBug (replaces Mojo)

vikingfan (replaces Carmine)

The noble (or ignoble) dead

Flying Dutchman
(Townie, Shot Night 1)
MetroidHunter
(Townie, Lynched day 1)
Yomipithe
(Townie, Shot Night 2)
drummer97531
(Townie, Lynched day 2)
Dragon Phoenix
(Townie, Shot Night 3)
CoolBot
(Townie, Lynched day 3)
Jaguar
(Townie, Shot Night 4)
Caesar K
(Mafia, Lynched Day 4)
kleimar
(Townie, Shot Night 5)
All townie PM's look like this:
You're a generic townie.

Your fellow citizens may or may not be trying to kill you. You and the rest of the town must decide by majority who to kill during the day, or by majority not to kill anyone.

The rules are as follows:
Anything in your role pm takes precendence over anything in this rule list.

Days will last as long as they need to. If discussion lags, I will impose a deadline. If discussion picks up, the deadline will be rescinded.
Votes must be in bold. If you do not do so, your vote will not be counted.
No lynches are allowed, they require the same votes as a lynch.
The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread at all.
Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Please, no posting.
If a role doesn't send in a choice, that role will not target anyone.
If you're going to be gone 48 hours or more, let everyone know in thread or by PMing me.
Do not quote PMs from the mod
Please point out any mistakes, if I make them, by PMing me. Otherwise, the mod is god.

You all awake in the morning. A group of people are gathering around the steps of the capitol building. You join them. You see the dead body of one Flying Dutchman. He has been shot, multiple times. The flag of Scalescum is wrapped around him, and both he and the flag are burning. A note is lying nearby. Written on it, in poor, illegible handwriting, you see something which looks vaguely like a grocery list, but as has been noted, the note is illegible. It's impossible to tell what it is, really.

It is now Day 1.

Not a bad start. We only lost one townie and it was a generic one. I wonder wether we have but one killing group or a succesfull doc or roleblocker.

Multiple shots could indicated more than one killer targeting FD.

Voting for yourself? Weird. So:

Hahahahaha. That is hilarious.

And aren't we one to jump on to make a quick two lynch?

I always vote for myself in games at the beginning, because random voting gets us absolutely no where.

It could've been worse. I'm intrigued by the note: I wonder if it means anything, or if it's simply mod-flavour. It does look like he was targetted at least twice (shot and burning perhaps?).

MetroidHunter: what is hilarious? :? And what is a "quick two lynch"?

Metroid, what else are we supposed to do other than randomly voting people and lynching someone the first day? Random votes bring out conversation and perhaps someone will slip up and we can lynch scum. Otherwise, the people voting for the lynched person is information, as well as who the lynched person was for an idea of the game composition.

I think pretty much everything has been tried to get day 1 to a close, but a fast day 1 only helps scum as it reduces the number of posts that can be looked at for determination of scum and general scummy vibes.

And I didn't think that Dragon Phoenix's vote on you was so weird. I thought the vote on yourself was weirder.

I always vote for myself as an anti-random voter person. It may bring out conversation true but their are other ways to do that as well then just randomly voting someone. I wonder actually how many times that has successfully lynched a mafia day one? I doubt very often.

Carmine, the "quick two lynch" was when Dragon voted me and I already had one vote on me. Which is a quick two votes.

Actually, in my experinece, day 1 lynch's can be quite successful. And even if they don't immediatly turn up mafia, they often make mistakes during day 1 that come to light later in the game.

Besides, Metroid, how is voting yourself any different than random voting?

It's not but it sure does change discussion from just voting people to actually discussing the game.

But we're discussing you voting for yourself, hence we are discussing a "random vote". We're not really discussing the game, we're discussing you. We could be discussing DP for pointing out your strange vote, we could be discussing other players as well. Generally discussion is started by the way people vote, for example the first person to put on a second or third vote may be the next person discussed. Hence voting is a great way to get discussion started. If we'd just not vote and not say much, how is discussion supposed to start?

Speaking of people not posting, where are yomipithe, mikehart, Dourgrim and drummer?

The scary thing is, I actually understood that post. There are many ways to start a discussion besides random voting. And I was under the assumption that I was apart of this game, making a discussion of me a discussion of the game. But still, that's not what's important. I'm gonna hold off voting until I hear from everyone.

Hi there, folks... I'm having connection issues right now, so I probably won't be able to post for a few days. Because of this issue, I won't be putting a vote anywhere for now.

hi everyone. I feel random voting can be useful for the town: it's information and all information is useful. Especially the reactions to a random vote can be helpful. Voting for yourself doesn't give any information, but the same goes for standardized random votes ( top of the list), or reactive random votes ( you vote for me I vote for you). Basically, what you're hoping for is that some of these random votes are not as random as they seem.

I as well use random votes. Why should we just sit and stare at our monitors until the mod deadlines us? Without votes where does the conversation really start?
