Welcome to NewbieVille! You've been hearing the news lately, and it's been just about the same thing, day in, day out. Except lately, there's been a sudden increase in unexplained crime. You've been ignoring it for a while, figuring it would go away, but it's just getting worse. Suddenly, the town Council has convened an Emergency Meeting, and chosen nine exemplary townfolk (you included!) to serve as a Committee for Dealing With Stuff.
As a member of this Committee, you have been given the power to question everyone in town and to decide who among you has infiltrated the town in order to take over. You, as a Committee, have the power to lynch one person each Day. Good luck!

General

4. Do not quote any private communication, including game-related PMs, instant messages, and QuickTopics. Quoting time stamps from any private communication is also forbidden. Paraphrasing is allowed; quoting from public sources is also allowed.

Activity

1. Prods will be issued to players if they have not posted within a 48-hour period. Players who have been prodded have 48 hours to respond in the game thread before a replacement is sought. For purposes of activity, Saturday and Sunday will be considered a 24-hour period.
   
2. Players who have been prodded 3 times are subject to replacement without further notice.
   
3. If you anticipate being away for at least 48 hours, please PM me or post a V/LA notice in the thread with the expected date of your return.

Days and Nights

1. Days will have a deadline of two weeks, and Nights will last 72 hours. Deadline extensions will be granted only in extreme circumstances.
   
2. Lynches occur through simple majority (50% of living players + 1, rounded down). If no majority is reached at deadline or there is a majority of votes for No Lynch, Day will end without a lynch. Once majority is reached, no further votes or unvotes will count.
   
3. Votes and vote revocations must be bolded (e.g.,
   Vote: PlayerName
   and
   Unvote
   ). Unvotes are helpful but not required when switching votes (e.g.,
   Unvote
   ,
   Vote: No Lynch
   ). Use of the vote tags (e.g., VOTE: PlayerName) is optional.
   
4. All players, including the lynched player, are allowed to talk in twilight phase until the thread is locked, at which point Day ends. Dead players may not post until the game has been officially declared over.
   
5. Actions not received by deadline will be considered forfeit. Actions may be submitted ahead of time and can be changed as many times as desired; at deadline, the last valid action that was submitted will be used. Actions may be submitted via PM or QuickTopic.

Any situation not covered above will be handled on a case-by-case basis. I reserve the right to add, modify, or remove rules as necessary. I will notify you of any changes in the thread.

which means that, in general terms, I will try to truthfully explain as many ins and outs about the game as I can. if you have any questions about how the game should be played, feel free to ask me and I will answer to the best of my ability.

first things first, these are the Site Rules. read them, live by them; everything you need to know about how this site works is listed here.

the wiki is a good place to start when you want to find out something. you can generally find most information here. a lot of the more specific things are outdated, since the way mafia is played optimally on this site is always evolving. however, most of the basic principles are timeless.

that said, there are a few main points of advice I can give you all straight off the bat:

1. Be active!

as town, you start the game off with 0 information, whereas the scum know who each other are, and in this particular setup they have a good idea of what power roles are in the game. being active in the discussion is town's best way of getting more information. post what you think about certain players or certain game events; ask other players about things that jump out at you; and so forth. as scum, being active is a good way of appearing town (although this isn't as much of a hard and fast guideline, there are some situations where it's better to lurk, aka not post, as scum, but being active will in most cases make you look a lot better!)

2. Play to win.

this should be fairly self-explanatory, really. don't purposefully do anything that will screw your team over.

3. Don't lie as town.

it is rarely, if ever, a good idea to lie as town. this includes everything from your role, to why you posted a certain post, to why you think someone is town or scum, etc. be as honest as possible, and you should be fine.
