People shouldn't even bother nominating anyone else for that scummy, it's spoken for. I think that's the funniest role claim I have seen PERIOD. Complete with matching paint graphics. XD

I've always kind of thought of the professor Mafia being sort of an award for discussion contributions to mafia, and the best performance for in game accomplishments. To me, then, fonzes effort looks better for best performance to me.

Especially since it's not any kind of contribution to relevant theory, as he's assured that setup will never be run again.

We could even nominate it for both, and see which one the judges think should stick. :-p No need to be stingy if a non fits two categories.

A relevant question would then become "is the IC award for qualitative play or for quantitative play"

I'm not sure which is the better one to re-enforce.

I think skruffs is wrong here (as much as I love him)

The best way to teach newbs is to play just like you would in a real game. And I wouldn't be doing anything but my best in a real game...Sooooo. Yeah.

Newbie 622

Despite having her partner immediately under suspicion and consequently lynched Day 1, Pie managed to go through the entirety of the game without a single player questioning her innocence, playing some experienced ICs and a pretty good standard of newbie players like fools to win the game. I can't imagine a more impressive way to win your first game.

I think it says something that this game only ever needed one replacement (i.e. that this game was far too awesome to flake on). We started off not knowing any of the rules, which led to the Godfather inadvertantly shooting himself N1, and the setup certainly kept us guessing right through to the end. Definitely the most fun I've had in a game of mafia in my few months of playing so far.
Man, sounds like a carbon copy of a game I ran...

Nominate Quagmire for most improved player

He had significantly cut down on what others would call "disruptive elements" in his playstyle, and was generally taking the game more seriously and kicking ass and taking names.

Nominate Val Ran Koon
For professor mafia, based on his general helpfulness and activity in running and playing in newbie games, as well as his recent takeover of the Newbie Queue. This deserves recognition!

I disagree with PJ. Generally, I think there is such a volume of STUFF going on on this site that some truly good things do tend to not get noticed. As a judge I would review each nomination based on what it merits, and not look at all at the number of nominations/how it was nominated. If it should win, then it should win.

I think things that should win should get nommed. If that takes a self nom, then so be it. If its not a worthwhile nom, it probably won't get seconded, and if it does get seconded than it deserves to be considered, probably. Also, a large portion of this site runs on the honor code, and with a few notable exceptions, people have stuck by that. I think those two things should stop the thread from getting cluttered by frivolous noms.

This kind of quibbling is tradition. Deadlines are arbitrary, yes, but there DOES have to be a cutoff for this to make any sense. Your game ended out of it. :( Sorry.
