Mini 69: Untitled Mafia (finis)

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Mon Nov 03, 2003 3:06 am

Post by Wacky »

“Now am I made death”, said Oppenheimer, “the destroyer of worlds.”

“The atomic bomb known as “Fatwa” was detonated on April 1st”

Riots continue in the place now known as Town with another 15 casualties....

“Domine Brachiane, solebas in bello tutus esse tuo clypeo, nunc hunc clypeum hosti tuo opponas infernali

Olim hasta valuisti in bello, nunc hunc sacrum hastam vibrabis contra hesten animarum”

Mafia attacks continue, with the Town Mayor Random being guned down outside his mansion on 123 Fake St. 5 others were injured and 1 man dead. The assistant mayor has declared martial law.

“They fight, they fight, they fight they fight they fight. Fight fight fight fight fight fight!”

Oh, right. Sorry, was a little distracted. The game, backstory thing. Right. Okay.

Welcome to Town, aka Dumpsville. Population, well 12. Used to be more you know. Then this whole doomsday thing happened, and the mafia ran the show. For a while. Maybe they got bored, or maybe they just killed too many people, then got bored. Probably the latter. In any event, they left.
Gangs are the new mafia now.

What’s left? Oh, right, you. And some random gangs. Who might might be you. Anyway, from now on, mafia and gang gets used interchangeably, capiche?

And now for the elaborate setup for why you want to lynch people every day. You hear that government aid is a coming, which is good. Very good. Since, you know, with only 12 people, there aren’t going to be many shops selling food open and all. That might be a problem in the forseeable future. So maybe hold out for a little while longer.

So why don’t you take a little nap while I lay out the ground rules.

Standard MeMe’s rules.

  • Votes
must be in bold. If you do not bold your vote, it will not be counted.
  • Please be attentive and
    unvote
, if necessary, before casting a new vote. This is not required, but I’d appreciate it.
  • Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, his pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. You may
    vote: no lynch
    – majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death.
  • The game is not to be discussed outside of the thread unless your role specifically states that you may do so.
  • Once your death scene has been posted, you’re dead. Stop typing.
  • Don’t edit/delete previously submitted posts
  • Don’t quote any PMs from me.
  • If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you – if you do not submit a choice to me, tough! No choice will be made.
  • If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Treat this game as a commitment. Be considerate – don’t leave us hanging.
  • Remember, it’s a game. It’s supposed to played. It’s supposed to be fun. Do your part.

You may also want to look at http://mafiascum.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9
One other thing. Town is situated, up, up north, you know, near where Insomnia is set. So days, nights, its really just semantics. This time of year, if I’m right (probably, seeing how I’m mod.), Town is in a state of eternal shadow. (eternal until spring anyway)

The town wakes up to a burning smell. A good thing you know, cos you need the light and all, but not if you also see a lot of bodies of random humanitarian aid workers, lying around, even if they are NPCs. Now normal, rational people would leave the town, like, NOW. But this is a game of MAFIA we’re talking about here.

It begins with
day
. So confirm in thread and start talking.

Alive and kicking, voting, etc.

1 Carmine (bodyguard/cult recruited N3)
4 Gin (replacing Empathy - reporter/cult recruited N4)
7 Mojo (original cult)
10 Shelper (town/Cult recruited N2)

Dead and not kicking

Minibus full of NPC's
6 Isaac (Lynched Day 1)
2 Coolbot (Psychiatrist, Died of puncture wounds Night 1)
9 Prizm (Cop, shot and slashed to bits Night 1)
3 Demeech (Psychopath, lynched Day 2)
8 Phoebus (Mafia/Gang Leader, slashed to pieces Night 2)
5 Fishbulb (Mafia Caterer, shot a lot Night 2)
11 ZONEACE (replacing Spqr, Mafia lynched Day 3)
12 Talitha (Serial Killer, lynched Day 4)

Its a hard life. But Prizm had figured it out, made the breakthrough. And the result of his investigation was..... Sounds. He looked up, and saw a figure, strolling into the office like he owned the place. He recognised that figure. He recognised it real well. They were going to pay this time.

Ouch.

Guess not having a gun has its disadvantages. But look, another figure. Salvation!

“Yup, you’re sane. Next!”

“So, how do you tell if someone is insane?”

“Well, we have a number of stamps. See, ‘insane’. We also have, for the politically correct, this one.”

Coolbot held up a much larger stamp that read “mentally incompetent”

“ And we have another one that reads ‘crazy’, for the ridiculously stupid. ”

“I see. You don’t have a real psychiatrist degree, do you?”

“Um...”

The town slept restlessly, since it only just woke up and stuff, but also because of the strange and frightening sounds that they heard, throughout the night. They awoke, and went to the sources of that racket.

They found
Prizm
, in his abode, lying on his desk. And also on the carpet, in the kitchen, all over the bullet-riddled wall, and with a knife through the eye. Cautiously they listen to the tape he was listening to, hoping for a clue, anything.

“Sunshine, lollypops, and rainbows....”

Uh, right. Naive? They pulled out the tape. “For my son on his birthday”. Son? They look at the newspaper articles pinned all over the wall. “Mafia kill’s Cop’s Son.” Obviously sane then.

And they find Coolbot, dead of puncture wounds in various places and “incompetent” stamped on his forehead. But, as the town looted his home for valuables and random foodstuffs, they notice he had a psychology degree, and a pharmacy degree. Close enough. As if a psychiatrist would live in a place like this.

Prizm, Cop
, shot by machine gun and slashed to pieces.
Coolbot, Psychiatrist
, died of puncture wounds.

2 Empathy (Mojo, Phoebus)

He's lynched already? Sorry, I was a little preoccupied with trying to find a replacement for Empathy. Which I still do not have.

I suppose though, that we could have night, and look for a replacement during that time as well...

5 Demeech (Carmine, Fishbulb, Phoebus, Talitha, Zoneace)
1 Empathy (Mojo)
1 Talitha (Shelper)

Demeech, is 100% lynched. You go to his house and find.... stuff. You know... stuff! Nothing really interesting there. So you remember to search demeech's clothing and you find one lollypop, sharpened to a point, and one stamp with "Mentally Incompetent" on it.

Demeech was the Psychopath. He appeared to be a role blocker to certain roles.

It's Night!

A night to remember.

It had been the longest and most dreadful night in the history of the City. The streets were as black as Chinese ink, and a long moan, incredibly sad, could be heard somewhere in the distance - beyond the fog, perhaps ?

Hours, and hours, and hours. They had been sitting in that little room for hours, discussing the challenges ahead, sharing their hopes and fears, when the door suddenly opened.

'You know who I am, and you know why I'm here.'
‘Um, nope. Didn’t the mod tell you that in your PM?’
’Hey, isn’t that our target?

~A while later~
‘I’m going to go out and get some pizza’
‘You just killed the person who delivers pizza.’
[long... pause...]
‘I will just be leaving now.’
‘Why?’
‘Because the mod wants to kill you off and he can’t do it with me around.’
‘Oh. Okay then. Later.’

Wake up! It’s day!

In the town square you find up a torn-up certificate of pro-town-ness.
How very strange.

And it appears that Fishbulb, Mafia/Gang Caterer (something of a mix between Caterer and Mafia Spy/Traitor) has been shot a lot.

You also discover the little tiny pieces that Phoebus, Mafia/Gang Leader was knifed into.

They go and hit Gin with a stick, and zip out their brainwashing kit. Then they go on merrily, worshipping the Cult of Repose, knowing that their destiny was safe as long as they didn't do all that much (cept sleep)

Cult Wins! Surprised? I know I was.

Here's the full story of the game:

PART 1: The word document.

EOG Statements

::is surprised to see there's already been a lynch::
::wonders if he's ever been in a mafia game with a first day ending so quickly::
::tells himself it's probably just the alcohol still present in his blood::

First day lynch in that game took 48 hours 30 minutes from end of night 1 to mod post for lynch. – Mini 6
(Tue Jun 04, 2002 12:56 pm - Thu Jun 06, 2002 1:21 am)

First day lynch took only 46 hours 15 minutes from confirmations end to mod post for lynch. – rounded to nearest 5 minutes.
(Tue Nov 04, 2003 4:02 pm - Thu Nov 06, 2003 2:43 pm )

It was a mistake to include the cult in its current form, which shows that even if a group has no chance under random dice rolling tests, they might still win and stuff. Somehow everyone missed the “torn certificate of pro-town-ness” (Cult of Repose) which is basically a satire on the “torn certificate of towneeship” of the Cult of Apathy in the Blinvitational 2 (I think that was the game) I continued day for another day because I wanted to see if one of the cult might even lynch one of their own, or do something silly, and of course whether they would recruit Gin or lynch him instead.

Carmine targets Reporter who was Targeting Carmine!

Funny that.

Q: Do I have to kill? (or something along those lines)

No.
- Each night you pick a target to kill and PM me with the name of your victim
That would suggest that you have to, but hey, if you don't send in a choice, no choice is made.....

So that's how I'd rationalize the answer as no.
Opening scene: (Day 3)

A night to remember.

It had been the longest and most dreadful night in the history of the City. The streets were as black as Chinese ink, and a long moan, incredibly sad, could be heard somewhere in the distance - beyond the fog, perhaps ?

Hours, and hours, and hours. They had been sitting in that little room for hours, discussing the challenges ahead, sharing their hopes and fears, when the door suddenly opened.

’Hey, isn’t that our target?

~A while later~
‘I’m going to go out and get some pizza’
‘You just killed the person who delivers pizza.’
‘Oh, I will just be leaving now.’

You also discover little tiny pieces that Phoebus, Mafia/Gang Leader was knifed into.

Bodyguard: Again, night passes without incident for you and your 'client'.

Reporter:

MOJO VISITS SHELPER!

Gee whiz.. what’s news coming to these days. Yes, yours truly has tracked the individual known as Mojo to a shack right near the main road. This address is the place where Shelper lives.

Opening scene:

Its a hard life. But Prizm had figured it out, made the breakthrough. And the result of his investigation was..... Sounds. He looked up, and saw a figure, strolling into the office like he owned the place. He recognised that figure. He recognised it real well. They were going to pay this time.

“ And we have another one that reads ‘crazy’, for the ridiculously stupid. ”

REPORTER FOLLOWS PERSON!

Namely, Talitha. Using a bug “borrowed” from the storeroom, yours truly has TRACKED Talitha to Prizm’s place of residence. Is this significant? Only time will tell....

CORRECTION: After checking the front page, we sincerely apologise for making some kind of mistake. This reporter represents honest stalking, not checking at homeness.

In other words, I stole this role from New York Confidential, not the front page. Hence missing/broken thing/ press

body: Targeted Talitha. Not much happened.

cat: You check what Talitha ordered and stuff. The Ted Bundy Killer Sub. Scrumpdelicious – chicken breast with lettuce, cheese, and mustard. And a minced meat pie.

- That would be the SK

cult:

*knock knock*
Talitha opens the door.

“How would you like to join the Cult of Repose... Repose.... Repose....”

then lightning strikes a nearby tree.

On second thoughts, maybe not.

- recruitment was unsuccessful.

In possibly related news, you don’t have that immunity anymore.

Opening Post:

But this is a game of MAFIA we’re talking about here.

have some questions about my role:
1) are there any other cult members right now?

Nope. You'll probably want to recruit some.

2) I didn't quite get what's one night death immunity. do I need to specify that I do nothing if I want to be "death immune" that night?

Nope. Basically, if cult target an anti-town role, they usually die instead of recruiting (this may or may not be true this game), and if some antitown role target them for killing, they would normally die. In this game, the first time this happens, you do not die, just that nothing happens.

3) I just wanted to be sure I get the last thing. I can only decide that I kill someone if there are 3 people or less at that night, right?

Yes. Otherwise you couldn't win if there was just some random you couldn't recruit and you left.

that would be all the questions I have
thanks in advance for the answers

Thats okay. I am here to help.

Summary of roles:

In Alphabetical Order

8 Mafia1
11 Mafia2
5 Mafia traitor/Cop/Caterer thing
12 Serial Killer
3 Psychopath
7 Cult
6 Vigilante
4 Reporter
9 Cop
2 Psychiatrist
1 Bodyguard
10 Town

Notes (i.e. info not available to players):
Pro town, anti town – well, the first six are obviously antitown and the last six are obviously pro-town. Just because its not/is in the PM has little to do with that and more to do with non-mod-quoting.

Mafia Caterer: Donuts = Cop, Pizza = Mafia, Sandwich = All other town, Lollypop = Psychopath, Holy Water = Cult, Minced Meat Pie = Serial Killer
The caterer is informed of what this means, except for Psychopath, where the caterer just gets a “[psychopath] bought a lollypop. Huh?”

Cop: Sane
Counsellor Psychiatrist: Does not protect until Psychopath is dead/targeted by
Psychiatrist. Fixing psychopaths -> normal citizen does work.

Reporter: sane, gets list of whoever’s targeted by the target. Except caterer, who just stays in shop all night, and goes home.

Bodyguard + Psychiatrists: Prevents all kills. All of them, not just one.

Cult: Targets: cop, psychiatrist, mafia caterer – no effect. Checks other pro-town – converts. Checks anti town killing roles, dies.

Other notes: Role blocker is the only role mentioned not in the front page. That is a clue, which hopefully, they wouldn’t get.

Mafia1: You and your buddy [mafia2] are going to trash this dump. No – better, you’ll push and shove some people around and kill them. No, better yet, one of yous does the killings and the other goes get some pizza afterward yeh?

You are the older one of this
“mafia”
group, so yous in charge of getting choices in.

- You are the Mafia [Leader].
- You may communicate at night with your mafia buddy
- Each night, you choose a victim from the rest of the players, and who to do the killing.
- You are the one who sends the choice in
- Win Condition: All non-mafia dead, and at least one gang member alive.

Mafia2: You and your buddy [mafia1] are going to trash this dump. No – better, you’ll push and shove some people around and kill them. No, better yet, one of yous does the killings and the other goes get some pizza afterward yeh?

You are the younger one of this
“mafia”
group, so the other guy is boss.
- You are a Mafia Goon.
- You may communicate at night with your mafia buddy
- Each night, you choose a victim from the rest of the players, and who to do the killing.
- You are the one who sends the choice in, by PM to me.
- Win Condition: All non-mafia dead, and at least one gang member alive.

Mafia Traitor/Cop thing: What a dump this town is. The only, like people who do anything cool are the gang/mafia that’s always smashing stuff. You’re just the coffee shop girl who no-one notices. And sells various food.

- You are the Mafia Caterer.
- So, each night, you PM me a target, and check what food they eat, and possibly their role.
- If you find the mafia/gang, or if the gang is eliminated, you join them, and lose the checking ability.
- You appear innocent to inspections until you join the gang
- The gang do not know who you are and might just kill you.
- Win condition: All non-mafia dead, and at least one gang member alive.

Serial Killer:

You like hurting people and watching them suffer. Simple as that, SK!

- You are the Serial Killer
- Each night you pick a target to kill and PM me with the name of your victim
- You are immune to one night kill, and ONE (1) NIGHT (i.e. not lynches) kill only
- Win condition: All others dead.

Psychopath: You are the stereotypical.... role blocker... with a heart of gold. Well, that what the cop would think if he inspected you anyway.. Stupid, useless cops. You are out to get JUSTICE. Not just from the gangs but also the cops, lawyers, doctors, nurses. They did NOTHING. You will rid this town of these NOTHINGS.

BLOOD. That was all you saw that night, partying late, you returned home. On the floor, ceilings, walls, scrawled in BLOOD: “Don’t mess with the mafia”. The mafia may be gone now, but they will ALL pay. The cops, the doctors, who could prevent such a thing, who wouldn’t. INCOMPETENCE! They will all pay!

- You are the Psychopath. Well, that what the INCOMPETENTS would Call you anyway.
- If inspected by the cop, you appear as the Role Blocker
- Each night you pick a target to kill and PM me with the name of your victim
- Win condition: All others dead.

Cult: Burning bins, empty streets
The end is nigh,
Convert, or feel the heat!
Be wary though of the damned
Destruction, hell, to all of those
Not of the Cult of Repose!

- You are the cult
- Each night, you may communicate with any other members of the cult and decide on a target and a person to initiate them into a cult (PM me this choice.)
- Attempting to recruit anti-town roles may be fatal.
- The cult has one night-death immunity (including nightkills, and recruitment deaths in that order)
- The cult also has one night kill that may be used instead of recruitment and that can only be used if there is at most 3 people alive at that night. (Again, include in PM choice)
- Win condition: All non-cult dead.

Cult Recruitment Notification (to the recruitee)

Now you have been given sight
By the hooded [members of cult]
Of humanity’s moral plight
Of how to write terrible rhyme
Destruction, hell, to all of those
Not of the Cult of Repose!

- You are now part of the cult
- Each night, you may communicate with any other members of the cult and decide on a target and a person to initiate them into a cult. (PM me this choice.)

Vigilante: This used to be a quiet neighbourhood. Now the good people have either died, or fled. Its time to make things right. Its time.

- You are the vigilante
- Each night, you may (optional) PM me on who you would like to kill
- Win condition: Town win

Reporter: BOY BECOMES REPORTER

Yes, yours truly, is now a reporter. Since the Daily People have left the town due to lack of community interest, the News Building has been left unlocked and unused. They may have taken the press with them, but this intrepid investigator, will give you all the goss!

Signing off for today,

YOU.

Cop: You are the law. Well, not quite, you can’t kill anyone, but hey, a shiny badge, and your wits is all you need. You really should be stopping the lynches, but the mafia killed your young son so there you have it.

- You are the cop. Each night, you investigate someone and find their role
- You are pro town, and want to see all the evil people gone.

Psychiatrist: There are some troubled people out there, and though you ain’t got a real psychiatrist degree, you want to help. Plus you run a pharmacy store. So, happy drugs for some, and worry about the dying later.

- The Psychiatrist chooses one player each night, and if that player is the Psychopath, the Psychopath is fixed and becomes a normal Citizen. That person gets protected regardless.
- You cannot protect yourself.
- If the Psychopath dies/is cured, the Psychiatrist becomes a normal Doctor.
- You win when everyone alive is pro-town.

Bodyguard: you big and protect people. i.e. like doc, only not called doc but bodyguard. Nobody kill who you target when you around. You protect self too.

Town: You are a townie.

Recruit anti-town => death (or lose your immunity from first death)
Recruit cop or psychiatrist => nothing (they're too smart to be brainwashed)
Recruit pro-town => recruitment into cult.

I didn't think the cult had a chance, but obviously I was wrong.

Thanks for playing, everyone!
