What have you to say about your own meta in this regard RC?

My meta. Well... I'm crazy, but the calm kind of crazy. I act like the game is a formal debate and its a really bad habit and by that I mean I will counter almost all points against me... doesn't matter though I always die early. Trying to correct that huge playstyle error.

I am trying really hard to improve my game, so if you go through my ISO of other games and it looks like there is a drastic change in my meta, it is because I am trying to learn this game properly and am trying to correct mistakes from previous games.

I don't think lying as town is a good practice and IMO there are very few legit reasons for doing so, however, because of the way I 'debate' with people when playing this game, it often appears that I am making contradictions when I am not. In truth, not very many people actually 'get' my logic, but a few people can pick it up if they stop and think about what I say, how I say it, and why I say it. I often make mistakes like typing "thing" when I mean to say "think" as well as making other typos more often than I wish I would.

Altogether I try to work with a framework in mind and how what I say eventually fits together like a puzzle. I am working on not making assumptions, and just playing the game how it is intended generally.

One last thing about my meta. I have been associated with being a psychic as bad as the term sounds. Basically what it means is that my brain works faster than my thought process; my subconscious picks up things that I have no way of knowing and it seems impossible to know, but I know it anyways. I can't control it and it just sorta 'happens'. I can give examples if you like.

2) My reads are not based on experience. Other than the 4-5 players I have played with I have no idea how long anyone has been on the site as it isn’t something I care about. The newest player could be an experienced player’s alt or have lots of experience offline.

You are trying to infer statements that I have not made. Hostility attracts votes - period. It does not matter what alignment you are, hostile players tend to get lynched. I have also seen plenty of people play very hostile as scum - it is almost entirely alignment neutral IMHO. The defense that hostile players are unlikely to be scum is bunk and scum like to try that ploy.

If your first weak read is that Slandaar is town....WTF are you supporting a wagon on someone that got up to L-2?  Since you didn't even have a weak read on him?

Ok this I actually don't mind talking about.

I mentioned that I voted FA because I got an inclination that there were more town than not on the wagon so I was trying to help town by going with the flow with the town pressure I felt was put on FA. I also found them suspicious.

As for the 'weak' read that you are trying to contrast and make appear to be a contradiction, allow me to explain. My read on this person, though I said it was weak, I said it was weak because they haven't posted very much and from what I was getting from that person I felt they were Town. It also says the degree that I thought they were town. Also I tend not to make 180 degree turnarounds on reads when I give them so if my first reads list looks like I have a bunch of Nulls, its because I am the type of reader who wants to get a 'lock' on people. This way at least the one thing I have about my game is that people can trust my reads to get more precise as the game goes on, rather than flip-flopping on my reads every 5 min which I have seen people do before in games.

Everything has become so confusing!

Despite the page count it’s still early in the game…but I’m comfortable with my vote on Lickety.  Why?  For those of you not intuitive enough to fensive reaction to the handful of questions/concerns I directed his way.

2 – Posts that make no sense/add nothing to the game….the unnecessary vote/unvote post.

3 – His repeated use of ad hom, misreps, and other logical fallacies in response to me to discredit my play (i.e. weaken suspicions directed at him) while failing to simply provide answers to the questions asked.

4 – His declaration that he (paraphrasing) is a misunderstood thinker who doesn’t like to explain himself.  How convenient if one is scum.

5 – The vote on Yuki because she is easy to get a read on while claiming to not have reads on anyone.  Perhaps because of Yuiki’s experience level which he (LQ) hypocritically is using as a negative towards me.

I told my reason for this and I seriously don't like how dull you are coming across. The reason is because I looked at their wiki and made a gut call that they would be easy to get a read out of  and voted for pressure.

I was not using it to support anything that you are mentioning. My reason was, and I have not changed this, because I felt that whatever it was that I read about Yuri that they were an easy read which I found out was not true.

I said "I was not aware that I lied," or something like that which actually means I believed it to be true. There are quite a few new and relatively inexperienced players in this game. I'm reading through ISO's and it's hard to get any kind of read on GG, Anna and LQ. GG and Anna have both said things that appear scummy to the rest of us, but could have been made by inexperienced town believing they are helping. That being said, both of them could be poorly played scum slots, but I don't think scum (even newbie scum) are going to be charging out of the gates tripping up over themselves to look so obviously bad. That kind of play is hard to pull off, even by seasoned players with a well thought out plan.

LQ is similar story. Most of what he says is either a bit daft, poorly thought out or badly reasoned and usually expressed in a way that only really makes sense to him. That doesn't make him scum though, just really difficult to read. He claims to have played a few games elsewhere and has also said he's a poor player. While I've been doing ISO's, I had Anna's abandoned newbie game open in another tab, and only just noticed that a town LQ was also in that game. At short as the game was, he appeared to be a lot more reasonable and able to express himself fairly coherently. He actually had an (incorrect) scum read on Anna in that game for reasons that he could also use to find her scummy in this game.

So this post from him is one of the few that makes sense:

First off I don't consider myself daft, just extremely misunderstood.

The reason I find Anna hard to read is because I feel she is going to be the kind of person who is going to share the same kind of info regardless of if she is town or scum... info like who was online at at what time and where else on the internet someone has used the same username, stuff like that. It can be good info to have, but at the same time it can make it hard to read this person for the reason of what info like this they chose to share. In other words, time is the only thing that I can use to read this person.

Couple things:

1) Titus is NOT a bad mafia player. I have seen them play in two games I was in and I know that summing up Titus' play as bad is not accurate
2) I think Titus just has a different perspective of playing that you do. In the end did Titus make the wrong play? Yes, but that is NOT and indication that they were not playing to their win con.

Lastly, I do seriously think that you DO need to get over yourself. You are not the mafia gods child and it is not good to have the perspective that you can do no wrong.

Sure, I feel that learning to claim at L-1 when you have a role which is confirmable would be a very good addition to your arsenal. If you do not understand why - it's because it prevents your lynch and gives the town the opportunity to lynch scum that day instead of you.

I couldn't give you a sensible answer really without writing an essay which I don't feel like doing. If you think something is scummy make sure people don't do it in day to day life first - quite a simple thing but effective. Example: forgetting something is not scum lying or making up reasons etc.

I have played a few more games since I was voted off from this one so I am aware that claiming when you are put at L-1 is the correct play, but I understand you are not really following all my games which is expected. In all honestly I had site flaked a while back and I was in 3 games at the time and I was voted off all three of them because of it. I have since learned a lot and my game has improved a lot -not to say that I am even good at this game, but I have improved and I now take my game much more seriously.

Your advice of making sure people do not do things in mafia that they do in rl is good solid advice and is a fundamental part of reading people. I would say one of the ways I have improved my game is by reading whether or not people are not making contradictions to their character/personality and if they do this, they are usually scum. My home site is actually a personality website and it is where I have played the most games. It mostly has to do with pop-psychology stuff, but I would say my particular bent to how I approach the game has more to do with the perspective of what is more accepted by the psychological community (God know's I have spent enough time with psychologist to actually have an understanding of why they do what they do.) I also must say that I can totally see where you are coming from and it is really good advice when you say to not focus on what is scummy behavior by itself, but rather what is scummy for a particular individual. I would say prolly the best advice you gave me here is to not make up reasons for things. This is key for me because I way too often will defend a prior point I have made thereby contradicting a previous comment I have made, but to be truthful, both examples you gave are things to work on for me personally.

I don't think I posted that much to be honest. Alright one more interesting thing but like I said, essays.

One way to get better (it may not apply to you) is never use the word gut. It's a terrible word, you need to figure out why you are reading things that way and actually post it. When you don't know why and just say gut without thinking you won't know post-game why you were right or wrong thus limiting your learning of the game. It also means people can't argue your point which does also limit your learning as your reasoning right or wrong cannot be debated (if wrong you can learn why etc) and is just plain anti-town when you are wrong to be stuck on 'gut' which cannot be disproven/argued against. It's something I realized a while back, I never really used gut for the aforementioned anti-townness of it, but in retrospect I think I learnt a lot more, a lot quicker, by avoiding it too.

Once upon a time I helped mislynch a townie as town. If I never vote again I will never mislynch anyone ever, problem solved!

It works but is it a good idea? The answer is no. Preventing the event so it doesn't occur again is just bad. The actual solution is to just get better at the game.

It's not easy but you have to read their posts and figure out why. For example, posting style will be similar for players as town and scum so if it's just their style you should drop the read.

An actual example is you might not like the timing of their post, they may not take stances on big issues until others have etc. It is really hard to explain how you can do this though as each situation is obviously unique.

I understand there is a fine line between reading peoples playstyle in general as townie or scummy and finding things that just seem "off". Its the explaining the feeling that something is off part that I am currently trying to deal with. At this point I'm willing to admit that I may not read people the same as others and most people look for different things when reading people. IDK, I just don't think there is like a "for sure" formula to read people. Some people use strict logic to read people and that is just not how I do it. I will say that I am starting to survive longer in games and my reads are getting better.
