Mini 1203: Set's Speed Mafia - Game Over.

Set’s Speed Mafia

Welcome to Setville, where the carnival is in town. Less and less of the townsfolk dare visit the fair now that so many strange, unexplained accidents have been happening. It is starting to become clear that these deaths are not accidental, but have been carefully plotted by murderous fiends. A group of you have banded together and vowed to root out the killers and bring them to justice, but you are very short on time. The carnival leaves town in only a few days. If you do not find them before then, the carnival will move on and, if carnies are involved, they will surely wreak havoc on the next unsuspecting town.

Rule set

> Fundamental
1) The site-wide rules apply, please read them and don't do anything stupid.
2) Unless it is explicitly stated in your role PM that you can do so, do not talk about this game outside of the game thread.
3) Do not quote any communication you have with me, the moderator of the game. Depending on the circumstance, you may be able to paraphrase things I have sent you (such as a role PM). Use common sense and if you are unsure feel free to ask me via PM. This includes timestamps of role pm's. You may share the quotation in your role pm, if there is one, however. This doesn't have to be paraphrased.
4) Be courteous to your fellow player. This is just a game - please don't bring personal grudges into the game. Try and keep it civil.
4a) No Sig/Avatar bets, I can't have someone having an awful avatar as a result of my game.

> Voting, Lynching & Death
5) For your vote to be counted, it must be bold, and in the form Vote: Hoopla. Caps and colons are optional, but it
must
be bolded.
6) Unvotes aren't necessary, but will be appreciated.
7) A lynch will occur when a player achieves 50% +1 of the votes. When this has happened, any subsequent votes and unvotes will not be counted, and the game will enter twilight. Night will begin as soon as I have declared the lynch.
8) You may vote for a ‘no lynch’ if desired. If a majority of the players in the game vote for a no lynch, the game will progress to night without a lynch.
9) Once you're dead, you are dead. Do not post in the thread until the game is over, not even a 'bah' post. There'll be a graveyard to complain in.

> Activity & Deadlines
10) This is a speed game and may therefore require you to be more active than in other games. Each player is required to post at least once every 24 hours. Treat this game as a commitment, and try your best to stay active.
11) Prods will be issued after 24 hours in a row without posting. If I keep having to prod you I'll get angry and replace you. Players may request a prod on another player, as well. I'm human and may forget, so if you want someone prodded just tell me.
11a) If you do not open a prod or post in the thread within 24 hours of the prod being sent I will begin looking for a replacement.
12) Things come up in life, if you need time off for something, please let myself and the players know in-thread for V/LA purposes. I will be flexible, but if you can't be here for a significant amount of time I will replace you.
13) Deadlines for each game day will be 72 hours unless specified as otherwise.
14) In the event of a deadline ending without a player gaining a majority of votes, there will be a no lynch.
15) Nights will have a 24 hour deadline. If you fail to send in a night choice, I will automatically default to 'no choice' for that night, and you will do nothing.
16) Deadlines will only be extended if I need a number of replacements, or barring some other freak circumstances. Apart from that laziness, or anything else, will not result in a deadline extension.

> Other Information
pre-17) No mechanism or website may be used to prove that a decision was achieved randomly. I.e. you may chose who claims first by rolling a dice, but you'll have to trust the person who rolled the dice not to lie.
17) Bold text is reserved for mod communication. Do not bold anything but your votes and communication you need me to see. You may use any colors as long as they are easily read by your other players/myself.
18) I will try to post Vote Counts as often as possible. Hopefully on the top of every page. If you feel a vote count is needed, don’t hesitate to ask for one, and I’ll provide one at the next opportunity.
19) It's more than possible I've missed a rule or haven't completely covered something. Don't try to exploit it, or I will punish you. If something is fuzzy for you, please ask!
20) I reserve the right to add more, or modify existing rules at any time. If this happens, I will let everyone know in thread.
21) Flavor in night/day write ups is just that; flavor.
22) Have fun!

SAMPLE VANILLA PM:

You are a vanilla townie.

Abilities: None. You have only your voice and your vote.

Win Condition: You win when all threats to the town have been eliminated.

What mis-information?

Jester tries to get lynched on purpose, my explanation basically describes that.

2nd - to the best of my research, there has not been 5 scum in a mini normal, but there has been 3 and 4

Can we stop it with the pre-game overreactions?

Pro-tip - jesters are not allowed in mini-normals anyway so there is no need to even discussing what a jester actually is.

it's a typical joke of mine

when I get a role PM which asks me to confirm with a description of the role I usually reply back with a humorous role such as chocolate townie or Jester just to amuse/irritate/troll/confuse the mod

my role PM asked me to confirm in thread so i tried a little joke to imply my role was a jester. Obviously, as beck pointed out, jesters are banned in normal games anyways

finally, assuming role setup balance does not take into account the nature of the game, does everyone agree that a speed mafia game is inherently scum-favouring since town have less time to make a reasoned judgement?

R right, understand now.

Yeah Spoon, speed games are more in favour of scum, its harder to get a good read on people in the shorter time and be certain on your vote. There'll probably be more town being lynched as little things said wrong can be taken out of propotion more in speed games as people rush to vote down for the quicker deadline, so we need to take more care with our votes.

Doesn't it depend entirely on how active people are? If this is a speed game, I assume people would be more active than in a regular-length game. Then again, if I understand the drafting process correctly, the next 13 people in queue were put in this game regardless of whether or not they were committing to a faster game.

This is under the assumption that the reason people don't have enough time to discuss is that they aren't always in-thread. If people are always online and actively discussing and time is still the limiting factor in regular-length games, then clearly you're right.

I'd Assume for speed mafia, if we have 4 scum it would be unbalanced.

And you can scum hunt effective in 3 days, day 1 may be harder but day 2 and on should be fairly simple.

And since this is speed mafia, I will lift my no policy lynch policy and lynch a lurker.

Lurking in speed mafia hurts the town.

mod, can we vote in confirmation stage?

If we have 13 people playing, even having just 2 mafia already gives town a <30% chance to win if we don't do better than random. I haven't played here in a long, long time - is it assumed that town does significantly better than random when deciding the numbers?
