Town I am, but I'm competing with you for wooden spoon in this one. As I told the mods, I watched the movie thrice and I still cannot grasp the whole concept of dreaming withing a dream. In other words, the mechanics WILL confuse me. You have been forewarned.

Tell you what? Well, the first question I have is whether dreams vary depending on player (lynchee) or their affiliation.

I'm sure I had a couple more questions while I was skimming the earlier posts, but I'm NOT gonna reread them to remember. It's torture to start with a question or two and have one more popping at you from someone else and then wait for the mod to respond. I'll probably ISO the mod closer to the start of the actual game to get a better idea about the mechanics and see if I still have unanswered questions.

I've decided I don't want to worry myself with the over-complications of mechanics theories and possibilities that may or may not be needed during the actual game. So I guess...

As for it being AI, it "might" be. You started to sound like you got something to push for a lynch there. Me not reading the rules (even if it was true) is NAI itself, and if you check games with special mechanics you'd see many players actually skip the intro/special mechanics posts altogether until they actually pop up in the game.

But anyway, I usually DO read the opening posts (mod posts) more than once and make sure I understand the game mechanics before I play. Sometimes one thing or another escapes me despite me having read the whole thing more than once, but I myself hate it when someone plays the game and doesn't care to read the opening posts, so those who knew me better knew I was trolling already.

I would have also put Persy there if it wasn't for me being semi-paranoid of him (not your fault, mate. It's just me holding you at the status of "A player to be reckoned and never to be underestimated").

what's everyone's opinion on 7 people going into the first dream (meaning the dreamer has to dream lynch themself), and 5 being left in the main thread? then we can lynch in the main thread and get something useful out of it, while still moving forward with scumhunting in the dream.

What if the 7 dreamers included NO SCUM? That's 2 guaranteed mislynches. The 7 dreamers (on the first dream) will mislynch because there are no scum there. The second dream will be scum driven and they control the majority as well, so another mislynch there. And that's just the easiest deduction out of multiple possibilities. Now feel free to so the math with 1, 2 or all 3 scum being in the first dream.

@Chara: Still trying to figure that out. It's a given we will have 7-8 players dreaming, and thus your proposal cannot be totally avoided, but can probably be countered to minimize the possibility of it ending in 2 guaranteed mislynches.

How about we elect the 3 strongest global TRs and have them stay off the dream wagon? We are then guaranteed NOT to trigger a second dream from the main thread for starters, although that might affect our scum hunting efficiency within that dream.

Maybe do that and then no lynch within the dream? The 5 in the main thread can still READ in the dream thread (and thus scum hunt but w/o interaction). After deliberations between them 5 (simultaneously with the other 7 interacting and scum hunting in the traditional manner) they recall the 7 back up to the main thread and lynch whomever they decided should be lynched.

The lynchee flip will provide a lot of substance for us to decide on the next move (which would certainly be to trigger another dream, but of what composition?). We will probably have better reads on everyone and -if we're lucky- we may have scum down to 2 as well.

But although this is my own proposition I still can see a major flaw in it if our first lynch is a mislynch, so I'd appreciate it if someone adopts the idea hypothetical and builds on it to see how we can avoid the side effect of a mislynch in case of one.

why should we put 7 people in a dream if we're just going to recall & lynch one of them anyway? why not just lynch them before setting up the first dream? deadline extending?

That AND a clearer view with the spotlight limited to those 7. If we lynch first we are lynching semi-blindly. We don't even know what happens in the dreams (you're in someone else's subconsciousness, so maybe you get something extra from it regarding their role).

@Leonshade: I'll wait for the mod to confirm, but I don't see why not. After all, it was the case -I think- in the movie.

@Chara: I cannot decide whom I would be voting to DREAM w/o actually knowing my affliction and having an idea of how the dreamer affects the dream. Do I know more about you if I'm in your subconsciousness? Or do you -maybe- have more control over it since it's yours? If My affliction says I can do one thing in level X dream it will also help me decide. Right now I can only "hope" I'm developing the right reads over alignments, but that's just about it and I'm often wrong on D1 anyway.

Gj gerry, you fooled all of us. Still think the setup was very townsided, if scum was townread that widely in a normal game there's no way town could've won.

like, all of my reads were wrong and i was one of the unviersal townreads. i have to reevaluate for later games. basically, i can't meta math as town just for being disagreeable, i should have realized Hiraki's apology over his mistake was too much and seemed to be damage control, and i shouldn't have let gerry coast just because of an early townread.

that we won besides that does indicate how townsided it was. possibly. though i know other people had better reads than i did. i thought it wasn't but just a small grouping of town completely destroyed it. the only kill scum got off was on someone who no one actually trusted, and was only alive due to their claim.

Stop belittling yourself. YOU made the connection between Hiraki & Math obvious. YOU lynched gerry over Infinity. You may have had bad reads at first, but you did work your way out of them rather than just pushing your reads regardless.

this was fun but like impossible to win, i think i was townread well though. i wish we had stronger abilities, really. thanks for hosting, scout and dunn! if there is another that's more balanced, i'd definitely join!

IMHO, things that matter (in order):

1- Having fun (check)
2- Your own play (check)
3- The game outcome (not check)

The game outcome is not ONLY reliant on the setup, but on everyone else's play. That means you can play the best game of your life and still lose because either the setup was anti-"you faction", someone on your faction made a mistake, or someone on the opposing side(s) played it too well.

Who was the Employer again? I mean, THAT ROLE was a 100% 1--shot COP in Town hands. Maybe BTD's role should've also been limited shots.

Also, don't talk about balance when afflictions are randomized. Like, if BTD's and Chara's roles both went to scum, that would have been a major boost for them. Infinity's role with scum is awesome too. Mine even.. if I didn't fully claim.

If you're worried about the balance, you may add 3 more afflictions and up the scum team to 4 members.

Employer was fuzzy. could definitely have used that on BTD, even after he had died.

No wonder it didn't get used properly. I'm not even sure if it worked on dead people, but it could have been used on someone confirmed in Limbo with someone still alive. Say EAP & YOU. That would have mod-confirmed YOU too. It could not have been used on Infinity because he's the one who could see in all threads.

It could have also been used early on the two claimed cops (before Varsoon reread his PM) and it would have confirmed them both already.

Now it would have been funny if THAT fell into scum hands. Like, scum could have never used it this way or they'd be outed, but they could have deliberately have one of theirs obv!Scum in main thread and then switched their affliction with a Townie just before they hammered. No that would've been MEAN!
