I had the intention of voting random(idget) with the reason being it's a "random" vote. Seeing he already had been voted twice though I chickened. I read something in the frequently asked questions that made me second think the whole process of "random voting" and/or even "voting for pressure". the thing I'm referring to is someone with "bolt" could count for 5 votes all by their own. That combined with the game I've just finished (with many of those involved in this game) that had double voting mechanics, vote stealing mechanics and threshold messing mechanics ... *Shrug* I just didn't want to take a chance this early into the game (at least not until I know what I'm doing in the first place).

maybe i should start asking lots of lame-o questions because i dont tend to find many scum but something that has worked for me in the past is what im seeing now. people that ask huge lists of questions to every slot and then never really follow up on them, like, ever, tend to be more concerned with the appearances of their questioning than the answers they get.

i err more towards a passive approach to scumhunting where i just give me thoughts on what happens around me and sometimes if people engage i'll interact with them a bit and see how it feels.

sometimes i'll question people if i see something i really dislike, or i'll make a note to pay attention to how someone's thoughts on subject progress, but in general i just let it all pass me by and try to take it all in.

@Zulfy, as Reasonably Irrational pointed out, it wasn't Albert B. Rampage that commenting on your self-vote. In so far as anyone was in this hydra it was me. And curiously enough you don't seem to have realized who was defending you in the exchange in which it happened. Given that you spent the effort to set up something you thought was a trap, would you care to look back again and see if you can see who it might actually have caught? It sort of doesn't matter, as that catch isn't particularly better than the one you thought you had and then threw out, but I'd think you'd be interested in seeing what your efforts actually caused to happen.

..Cerb? i mean, by the setup Zulfy established (the one who defends him once he's attacked for selfvoting is "trapped") then Cerb is the one caught. Your own contribution was just you saying Shinobi's vote was fine. That's not really "defending" in any sense. Either way I think it's kind of a silly trap. It might be an interesting tactic to generate content, but different players will respond in different ways to different situations. I don't think such a specific tell can reliably exist.

As for Shinobi... well I looked over my own ISO and it was just as i recalled. i never cast shade at the guy. we clashed briefly when he pressured me for an early vote on A50, but I never did actually turn it around on him and say he was scummy for calling me out. his assessment was wrong, but the way he acted wasnt exactly telling for his own alignment. he saw something he disliked it and he engaged. if anything that's what i like to see. the fact that he backed off on it is even better, though admittedly i have a really big problem with reading people who townread me.

On Zulfy, I liked his tone. He's got that sort of easy-going aloof attitude. Really nonchalant claiming a nightmare was towny too. I'm watching to see how his reads develop though since his "trap" is kind of showing that he's at least putting effort into looking like he's trying.

The nightmare bit is interesting for Zulfy. He probably has the ability (which I view as likely scum, but this is a game of paranoia, so who knows,) but if he thinks that traps like the self-vote are worth it, he might think that sort of false claim is as well. I'm still waiting to see where it goes. I like the trying to make it seem like he's trying thinking thinking though. That's something that scum desperately need to do (they know their team, but they need to seem like they're trying to figure them out.)

I'm not sure I agree that it's likely a scum ability, but the fact that people might think so (and I can understand anyone coming to that conclusion at first) is exactly why claiming it so nonchalant early on felt like a towny move. It's ballsy.

What's your take on the least active players? Do they deserve more time because they're just busy town who haven't been able to get into the game or are they lurking scum who we should be lynching right here and right now!

KC: I agree with her decision to take the easiest dungeon first but that's entirely NAI.
H&M: Purely setup stuff. Not necessarily the worst entrance but going nowhere with it annoys me. Generally people who enter with mechanics heavy posts and who dwell on them for awhile are people trying to seem pro-town without actually taking any stances which might be objectionable. Will have to see if they like, do anything.
Bogre: Mostly fluff with a bit of mech posting. Lame.
Patches: Posting seems town motivated. Makes sense to me that he wouldn't award bloodmoney if he's just a proxy slot.
Shadow_Step: What little they've posted has actually been thoughts on the game which I appreciate. I liked 205 for some reason but want to see where they were going with that. I mean, I can imagine, but development would be nice??
randomidget: purely mech posting. Spaced out over time though, you'd think he'd have some actual thoughts on the game by now. Maybe scum? I mean, I know random lurks and I got him completely wrong in the game we just finished so maybe I'll give him some time >_>
Toogeloo: Dislike this slot since I've liked Patches and feel like their vote there is basically taking the path of least resistance. Feels like a slot they'll get very little resistance to voting. First off, the Mod already confirmed that lynching anyone/thing will grant rewards, which is in direct conflict to what Patches said in regards to not granting rewards for being lynched. Secondly, what's "easy" about voting for Patches? You realize how much faith players have to have to go out on a limb and lynch a slot like that?

Hi everyone! Muriel head here!

Overall, the reads have been pretty much null in my eyes. I find Shinobi to be scummy. I’m not sure how much I believe the “I’m disengaged as town” excuse, although this is my first game with Shinobi. Seems I’m not the only one to see him as scummy though.

The person without a vote that Cerb referenced near the start of the game was me. It was certainly a pain, however I chose not to reveal it right away.

D&D can you tell me why you chose to not keep it a secret specifically? Or was it really just a feeling that revealing that would be a proper town thing to do?

Something else that concerns me is the differences between my role in Space Dandy II, and the role that D&D has. Does your voting mechanic prohibit you from reaping any rewards after the lynch? Or would the spider vote allow you to get the blood echoes still? I’m attempting to look at this from every angle.

RI is looking town to me although Space Dandy II was my only interaction with either of them and Cerb was town while Elbirn was scum, and I can say that both of them appear to be playing similarly here although Elbirn simply strikes me as the easygoing type regardless of alignment.

And now a personal note, I've been busy and I’m still gonna be unable to post for a few days, my boyfriend is at my house and it’s almost my birthday and as such I trust my other head to hold down the fort for a bit. (Glad to know I'm not the only one to use that phrase ;3)

I don't really like that you've avoided saying anything about our play--but then, no one else has really commented on our play either. And I think my being skeeved out by your "playing devil's advocate" was compounded by my being skeeved out that apparently everyone is townreading us for claiming our votelessness thing.

This sentiment seems to have come up a couple times in various forms (and I'm going beyond the scope of the quote because I'm a bit too lazy to dig up other examples which would get at the other points I have to make.) Here it's concern that people haven't been commenting, but there have been a number of players concerned that Reasonably Irrational is being too friendly/obviously pro town. I lump both in the same category. If a player is acting pro-town day one (generating content, interacting with players, being friendly, putting effort into the game, etc ...) it's really not worth poking them too much. If they're town then they'll probably be night killed in the next couple days. If they're scum then they'll still be alive day 4 or so and you can start wondering about it then. Reasonably Irrational and Daenerys and Dragons both fit here for at least me. At this point they should be treated as town until there's a reason to think otherwise, or unless we've gotten to a game state where it's unreasonable to think that a universally respected player is still alive.

SO, here's the thing: I don't really see that I'm actually doing a lot of leading. It's more like when people who weren't talking very much popped up, I prompted them to give their opinions on the current events, basically, the thing that we had the most material to work with, so I could see where they were coming from I don't *think* I actually started any of those conversations, but I did try to get everyone's thoughts nailed down as much as I could. I do get what you're saying about the "not putting myself in a questionable position thing" but I think that's more an artifact of the current echo chamber of the game, rather than anything I'm trying to do. There's a fairly sizable "town bloc" growing, and everyone within that bloc seems to be suspicious of the same group of players...and everyone within that bloc also happens to be the more active posters. I'm not really getting a lot of well reasoned contradictory positions regarding shadow_step for example, and that makes it so we're all just sitting in a circle and nodding at one another. I was actually talking to Elbirn earlier today about how much that concerns me. I mean, it's possible that maybe we're just REALLY fucking in sync, and town is recognizing one another, and the scum just aren't blending in, but I'm super fucking scared that we're just all pointed in the wrong direction, so scum don't have to do anything to try to distract us. :-/

I don't want to derail this concern, and I think it's part of your push for Hastur and Muriel, but I want to know if you've thought about the following. In this game, given the mechanics involved, are scum more or less likely to bus than normal? There are two sub-cases to consider and we might be in either one depending on your point of view for this wagon/the wagons we're seeing today. This isn't a normal game and to some degree scum actions shouldn't follow normal patterns; there should either be heightened resistance to scum lynches or less depending on how much the scum team has thought things through. This actually relates to something else you said as well.

This game has too much low hanging fruit. Bogre, H&M, toog, pv, and now this new hydra. All apparently mislynch bait, either based on their past play, or simply because they're not giving anyone any reason to town read them.

This concerns me. They can't all be bad scum. :/

This isn't even the complete list in my opinion, but looking at those players and the apparent complacency of town in terms of rejecting (or more specifically failing to reject) some of the wagons makes more sense than it would in a standard game and might be less of a concern or more of a way to catch scum.

@Everyone, regarding the Hastur and Muriel posts and those that are giving town credit for them, my experience is that this should be the standard scum catch up play if they've let things ride and start to get pressure. Just toss out a bunch of analysis and make it seem like you're trying to catch scum now. It throws the initial heat off your track and gives you breathing space to do whatever it is you need to do as scum. There's very little cost (other than the effort it takes,) and it has an unreasonably large town-cred boost. This is especially true for players replacing in, but still applies to players who have let a game slide. Until there's actually some engagement in the game these should be taken as null, especially given the nigh-incomprehensible nature of the format they've been given in. In our hydra PT I've advocated for joining this bandwagon (which it sort of shocks me no one else has, but see my conversation with Reasonably Irrational a bit of why that might be the case,) but Albert B. Rampage has other plans which I choose not to get into in public.

Did you miss that I went through his entire ISO giving my thoughts on everything? Or the fact that his responses were all fluffy and dismissive? The main problem I see is the inconsistency between the BoP he placed on Sensei and yourself. He assumed you would be competent, while simultaneously assuming Sensei would be incompetent, in spite of knowing nothing about either of you. It's possible that this was caused by a low level reaction to the way you both play(Nahdia posts lots, therefore good at mafia, Sensei posts less, therefore bad), so I hesitate to demand his head over it, but it looks pretty bad. Nothing else is overtly scummy or alarming, I don't believe. At least, not in a way I can vocalize. Elbirn and I are willing to vote him, but we're more concerned with the H&M situation for the time being. Although actually he and I haven't spoken since we've both been gone from the thread, so that may change after further discussion.

Now, the reason why we didn't just vote shadow_step is because we had just talked about him, and I couldn't make up my mind about him, and thus opted for getting more information about a slot that was concerning over joining the wagon on the person who was already talking.

It's quite important to consider the angle of me introducing a counterwagon. Why in the world would I bother? Unless Shinobi is scum with myself and shadow_step, it's very easy to just push shinobi over shadow_step. I could just claim to have been appeased by him responses, and go after shinobi. Done. *shrug* I think that were I in your position, taking this particular line wouldn't make sense from scum me(and this goes without considering that I let shitty scummates hang themselves, not worth it to sacrifice my position if the other person can't be bothered to play well, but you have no reason to know that) over the easier option of pushing someone who actually *does* have content which is scummy. Town playing bad counterwagon is a much easier one to push than a pure lurker one, ESPECIALLY when there are a bunch of pure lurkers in the game...it means you get questioned on WHY you're going after this person in particular.

Hello all, I haven't read this unfortunately.
Is there anything I should be specifically looking at?

Can someone give me a quick summary of events.

dw man ur already doing better than half the slots in the game.

basically it's been a bunch of bickering as d1's usually are. there's been some debate over who should be the master of the hunt. Reasonably Irrational has claimed they have a role-related reason it's best for them Huntmaster. Mixed6 has also been campaigning and Rylai and Lina has a decent amount of support as well.

two main wagons being driven are Shinobi and shadow_Step. there have been some vanity votes which you can trace reasons for by looking into ISO's. right now there's some support being drummed up for a lurker lynch because there's a lot of lurk in this game and we'd rather the talkative people stick around. Bogre has collected a few votes under this premise as well as some scumreads on him. Mixed6 wants PeregrineV to be the lynch and Reasonably Irrational wants Hastur & Muriel to be the lynch.

and yeah, that pretty much brings us to now.

It's unlikely to be you because I really dislike the fact that you, as smart and observant as I know you are, didn't even consider the weirdness of me pushing a lurker over the easy mislynch, amd then didn't consider the obvious conclusion that given your respect for the heads of this hydra, we would obviously want to push elsewhere cause if we got shinobi lynched, we'd just he setting up ourselves and shadow_step for a very difficult rest of the game.
