Best thing about being a Mafia player?
Playing with fun people.

Could you please tell us a joke?

The first one that comes to mind:
Ronald Reagan and Queen Elizabeth are riding horses up a hill. Queen Elizabeth is riding in front or Ronnie, and her horse farts. Queen Elizabeth is mortified, so when they get to the top of the hill, she turns to Ronnie and says:
"Mr. President, I am so sorry."
Ronald Reagan says, "It's okay, I thought it was the horse."

A few...

It can be effective because it's unexpected. But sometimes people get their panties in a bunch and lynch you for claiming scum

It's dangerous, but the payoff can be big.

Did you know I live in C-ville? I saw in some other thread that you went to Foxfield!

Adel wrote: Do you attend religious services? What kind?
Not regularly, but I am Episcopalian. I've been to a fair number of other religious services. I grew up in a mostly Jewish area, so I've been to temple a few times, and I've been to a bunch of other Christian demoninations. I basically think all religions are good. It's the extremists that try to kill gay people or molest young boys, or blow up buildings, and that's not really a part of any religion as far as I can tell.

I think there's power in repeated actions, like prayer. Even if it was just made up by someone a long time ago. There's something cool and powerful about sharing actions and words with tons of people you don't know, and tons of people through time.
Adel wrote: What kind of

It's funny you asked this since I made the above answer before looking at this questions.

I pray. I do yoga and I used to go to a cool dance class that combined lots of different movement forms and meditation. I got out of the habit since walking my dog for hours each day made me too tired. But here's the link: http://www.nianow.com/

I guess it's not a classical spiritual practice, but doing Nia always felt healing for mind/body/soul.
Adel wrote:What is your favorite kind of ritual to participate in?
I like rituals of all kinds. But something involving movement/dancing is the most fun.

I'm trying to work up to this Adel, but I'm afraid you might have to do it for me. I'm not this hardcore yet.

When I'm angry with someone I mostly fantasize about having the perfect wording to tell them the exact ways in which they suck. Because when someone is a real dick to me I rarely have the right words at the right time. I need a script. Maybe that's why I'm a writer.

Awesome, what kind of Pizza?
Stuff that is finished isn't too bad, but unfinished stories are either unfinished because THEY SUCKED, or because I haven't fixed them yet. Not everything I write is good. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and write ideas down that make no sense, like writing a story about Walt Whitman and Mark Twain being friends.

I haven't had any big publications yet. I wrote some screenplays that agents were interested in, but never made it all the way.

I could never be an actor. I would be too nervous, and also would suck at it.

Pizza:

Favorite is probably garlic and tomato (like chopped garlic or roast garlic, or both on top). I also like pineapple and ham/bacon. Or chicken parm pizza is also one of my faves. I like almost any kind of pizza. Sometimes you have to go old-school and eat pepperoni.

I did a lot of research and found a good breeder. Here's their website: http://www.deeprunretrievers.com/

When I was a kid we had a cocker spaniel and a depressed golden mix. They both got pancreatitis and had to be put down when I was little. When I was a teenager, my grandmother gave us a pug which we later found out was from a puppy mill. The dog had lots of problems as a result. Shelters or good breeders are the way to go!

Most ambitious knitting project?

I've made cable blankets and sweaters, as well as all kinds of baby clothes. I'm not sure what's been the most ambitious. Sometimes I find straight knitting to be harder because it gets boring to me. I like a complicated pattern because it keeps me interested.

Do you have a green thumb?

Yes! I spread 13 tons of dirt last year using only a wheelbarrow and my brute strength. Then I made grass grow. It was exciting. I know a lot about plants and gardening now. I have had some success with things that are difficult to maintain, like roses and hydrangeas. I think the secret is finding a good location for a given type of plant. In the right location they don't need too much care. If a plant needs too much care, most people (including me) will eventually let it die by accident. The other secret is miracle grow stakes. Don't bother with the granules that you have to apply every week or two. That's for fools. Stick a miracle grow stake in the ground once a season.

Morning person or evening person?

The best one is always the one I'm working on because I always think they'll turn out awesome. I'm working on "The Changeling" right now. And Angelina Jolie will not be starring in it.

I'm more genre than literary. I do comedy, romantic comedy, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, romance. I prefer first person, but I'm trying to do more third person. Common themes include mistaken identity, magical elements.

KJ Chard? That's not a stainless steel fermentation.
I don't know what KJ chard is, but I like it. And from tastings I usually don't like oakey wines too much.
Have you ever tried more esoteric choices, like a Spanish Albarino (chard substitute)? or a Portuguese Vinho Verde (instead of Pinot Grigio)?
No, but I'd like to. Thanks for the suggestions!
What lead you to discover mafia? mafiascum.net?
elvis_knits wrote:I was in a film competition run by the guys who made "Cry Wolf" and they play mafia in that movie. Searched the internet and voila!
Interesting. Did you make a film?

(added Cry Wolf to netflix queue)
I was in a competition to write shoot and edit a short film in three days. It was hell since my producer when apeshit and stole our footage and I had to redo everything on the last day. But I did finish, with help from my brother, and we got an award.
elvis_knits wrote:Yes!
How about composting? The Miracle Grow stakes do well, but nothing beats homemade soil.
I haven't done composting because I don't have an out of the way place to do it in... everywhere is visible and I don't like the way they look. But I would love to someday. Every time I rake leaves in the fall I think to myself I should be composting. If only I could make my own mulch I would be happy for life...

There's a horse farm nearby and they put all the horseshit in big mounds in a certain area. People I know go and get buckets full for their gardens once the pile has aged for a few years. They call it black gold. I haven't been brave enough yet.

They will cut you.

I once had a woman cut my hair and she complained the whole time how an artichoke seed got lodged in her thumb and then got infected and it still hurt.

I think her hand was later amputated, which is really bad when you're a hairdresser.

Sometimes you have to assert your alpha pack dominance over producers :D

Do you still work in production or are you more of a writer?
I am more of a writer, but I love filming also. I don't really enjoy being a director though. You have to be a constant motivation to people, and pull rabbits out of hats (when you have no budget). Shits hard work. I much prefer being the DP, camerman type role. I want to hold the camera.

Especially if it's porn.

It can be effective because it's unexpected. But sometimes people get their panties in a bunch and lynch you for claiming scum

It's dangerous, but the payoff can be big.

Did you know I live in C-ville? I saw in some other thread that you went to Foxfield!
I did not know this, very cool. Whereabout in Cville are you? I need to find somewhere to live in the next week before my lease ends... Shouldn't have put it off this long.
I technically live in Keswick, a few minutes east on 250.

Do you go to UVA? Two of my brothers went there. My younger brother graduated in 2006.

I don't like pugs too much. But that's probably because we had a really messed up puppy mill pug when I was little.

My most prized posession is my camera or my sewing machine.

I'm not sure if my opinions have changed that drastically on anything. Usually I'm middle of the road on something until I learn more about it and then come to believe strongly one way or the other.
