Pokemon League Season 1 (Round 1)

Post Post #0 (isolation #0) » Tue Dec 15, 2015 12:43 pm

Data Center
Showdown guide.
Please upload and share your replay.

Hi I'm doing a Pokemon thing. All battles will be held on Showdown, and I will be using Serebii to verify stuff. Specifics for the season will be ironed out once signups are closed and I see how many people are playing (all /ins will be accepted).

So here's what you need to know for now. During the regular season, each player will have two matches per round. Rounds will last a week at most, though the next round will start early if the previous one ended. Rounds may or may not have gimmicks and special rules. Your team will constantly be expanding; you will get new Pokemon before some rounds. I also have a leveling up mechanic I'm going to be using. The calculations are ~~secret~~ but if you can figure them out, good for you. Every round, the best individually performing Pokemon will win MVP and earn an extra level. A trainer can't have one of their Pokemon win MVP two rounds in a row. Every few rounds, levels will be globally raised to make sure nobody gets too far ahead.

For season one, we will be using third generation mechanics. Fights on Showdown should be Gen 3 OU.

To sign up, PM me the following form.

Showdown username:
Pick one of the nine starter Pokemon
OR
a Pokemon that reaches its final evolution with a stone:
Pick one of the nine starter Pokemon
OR
a Pokemon that reaches its final evolution with a trade:
Pick a non-legendary Pokemon that does not evolve:
Pick a Pokemon that only evolves once, via leveling:
Pick a non-starter Pokemon that evolves twice, via leveling:

NOTE:
Espeon and Umbreon count as stone evolutions. Crobat, Blissey, and Milotic count as trade evolutions. All baby Pokemon that use a friendship evolution will automatically evolve into their second form.
NOTE:
Please be sure to include a gender and nickname for each of your Pokemon.
NOTE:
All of the Pokemon you receive with your application will be at level 10. Unless something can evolve that early, they will be in their base form.

There should
NOT
be any communication between players.

Spoiler: Clauses in effect during battles
Sleep Clause Mod: Limit one foe put to sleep
Species Clause: Limit one of each Pokémon
OHKO Clause: OHKO moves are banned
Moody Clause: Moody is banned
Evasion Moves Clause: Evasion moves are banned
Endless Battle Clause: Forcing endless battles is banned
HP Percentage Mod: HP is shown in percentages

Correct, but it will also be played on the RSEFRLG engine, affecting move pools and mechanics.

Milotic counts as a trade evolution. Thanks for pointing that out, let me know if there's any other weirdos I missed.

Additionally, adding this clarification to the OP:

In post 17, Cephrir wrote:If I pick Eevee, can I decide what to do with it later?
Yup. However with something like Slowpoke or Poliwag, where there are different evolution methods, you must decide now. Since all of Eevee's evolutions are via stones, you can hold off on picking.

In post 18, lilith2013 wrote:Are fossil pokemon okay? Does the fossil resurrection part count as an evolution?
Resurrection does not count as evolution. Fossil Pokemon are treated as any other regular Pokemon.

In post 19, KingdomAces wrote:Relatively, how easy is it to get moves that aren't learned by leveling up? Also, in case hidden power is available, are IVs set from the start, or would you be able to change them if necessary?
Movesets may vary by round. For EVs and IVs, do whatever you want.

Before I get to round-specific stuff, some global stuff.
1. You can do whatever you want to with IVs/EVs/Natures/etc.
2. This thread contains the full schedule grid thingy and will also have replays and Pokemon information after this round ends.
3. For rounds where movesets are level-dependent: Some Gen 3 games used different levels for learning moves on some Pokemon. You can use the lowest listed level. Use Serebii's Gen 3 Pokedex.
4. Be sure one of the players in a game sends me a link to the replay afterward. I need the replay.
5. Every round, you will be given a certain number of active Pokemon. The number of Pokemon you use in a battle will be different from your number of active Pokemon in most rounds. Your active Pokemon will be the pool of Pokemon you can use in your battles. All of your others will stay in the box. Note that a Pokemon left in the box might level up faster than one chosen to be active but not used in battle.
6. Every week, you will play one person in your conference and one not in your conference. By the end (nine rounds), you will have played everyone in your conference and all but one person in the other conference.
7. At the end of round 9, the four highest ranked (based on wins) teams in each conference will get a playoff spot. The remaining two playoff spots per conference will be contested in a Wild Card Tournament that all other teams are a part of.

Here are the conferences:

Spoiler: Cipher
Axxle
Cephrir
Chevre
Klazam
lilith2013
Marquis
Maxspir_7
Psyche
Shadoweh
Wisdom

Spoiler: Snagem
Aj The Epic
Espeonage
ForWhomTheJellyRolls
JasonWazza
KingdomAces
Klick
lalaladucks
MTD
N
notscience

Round 1

Each player will use 3 Pokemon per battle. PM me which three you choose (in case you end up not sending all of them out). You must use the same 3 Pokemon in each of your battles. The other two will be in the box.
Items are prohibited this round.
Moves: Each Pokemon can only have 1 move that it wouldn't have learned via level-up. Since all Pokemon are currently level 10, this should be pretty restrictive. Choose your move wisely. If you need help with this, feel free to contact me. And don't forget to make your Pokemon level 10.
Just a reminder that you shouldn't communicate with other players except to schedule a battle. Also remember to send me a replay.

Yeah, Showdown will enforce that.

In post 85, Klazam wrote:are movesets and natures and evs and ivs contiguous, or can i change them freely between battles?
You can change them freely.

In post 87, Marquis wrote:how do pokemon level up, and how fast? do they need to survive the match?
~~secret formula~~

In post 88, Aj The Epic wrote:Do we have a room or are we just convening randomly?

Edit: What about TMs? Are we just using level moves/breed moves or do TMs show up as viable options?
If someone knows how to make a room in Showdown, please teach me.
A TM move would count as the one non-level move for this round.

Yeah, by "the exception", I mean the non-level move.

I'm not sure I fully understand the Pomeg glitch. "it also allows otherwise illegal moveset/level combinations, such as a level 5 Staryu with Hydro Pump." Is this the kind of thing you mean? In this case, Hydro Pump would be the exception. If this isn't what you meant, please correct me.

I feel like using moves that aren't listed on Serebii would be unfair to those not familiar with those special moves.

Slight amendment to the no talking rule. You can talk about your own team as much as you want, to whoever you want (including spreading false information). Do not talk about other players' teams.
