This game is about to go into almost-deadline anarchy. The problem with town right now is that the people who would normally be providing the leadership are scum.

The fact that people are like giving full post analysys by each page this close to deadline is kind of rediculous, IMO. Like I know that that's good to do when you replaced in, but at that rate it's gonna take way too long and be not so raven.

The real funny thing is that if tool is lynched instead of Thor, then it might be days before the whole multi ball thing is made public. In that scenario as scum I might be inclined to claim Vig, but idk really.

Game I feel is going well, though. Had to replace some people but everyone for the most part is being nice and active, and nobody has started any pointless flame wars which is really, really great. Had to deal with that in my last modded game and it was not fun indeed. I'm really enjoying the idea of two factions, though. It makes for some real cool battles (such as with BBT and Thor), even though they might not be quite aware of each other being scum quite yet.

Either way, I'm enjoying this. Titus is going to be joining in as a replacement tomorrow night, so things are going to get hella interesting.

The conversation would be 99% about offline stuff that has nothing to do with the game, but the context for the conversation would be “and that’s why I completely overreacted to you in the game, sorry.” Is this the kind of conversation that needs to wait until Frogger is also in the dead thread or can I have it with him now?

Caught up - well my reads to prior access were Thor and Lapsa scum team with an outside of Shinobi plus Bella scumteam.

I really like this set up Aero - you should seriously think of submitting for Opens. Simple multiball is a great thing to have.

Setup building is like my favorite thing to do. I literally have probably about 12 setups just sitting in word files around my computer. When I feel like modding a game, I just look through and pick my favorite!

The idea for this one (and the whole refraction thing) came about during This Thread, which started as a joke and turned into like a legit thing. The *original* idea was to have each player be a different ice-cream flavour (e.g. Chocolate Townie, Vanilla Townie). At some point though, I was bored while doing some physics notes, and changed the theme a bit to be based off of light and refraction (I actually incorrectly called it "Diffraction Mafia" for a long time). I thought the idea of ultraviolet and Infrared was cool, and it worked out perfectly for scumteams.

Did the scum teams know about each other and can they win together?

If you get a role called "ultraviolet mafia" or something where the mafia has a specific name, then it's definitely going to be multiball. Also, two scum members in a 13p game means something's up. They figured it out pretty quick.

My power has been clarified to detect Goons as Vanilla - so (as no real shock) there is almost assuredly a second scum team - huzzah!

Refraction suggests a bending of light, which often causes skewed or flipped perception - again, supporting second scum team. Probably their roles somehow reverse mirror ours, I would suspect.

Honestly though the deadthread is always the best part. It's better the longer you're in the game too, because people root for you.

Good choice. This happens to me all the time, probably every few months. I'll join way too many games, lose all of them, and feel burnt out like I'm just going through the motions. Then I usually pick it back a few months later and it's so exciting again.

It's a very anti-town tactic. It sabotages cooperation, which is imo the most important town behavior. Town wins most often when they work together. Doing things that make people not want to cooperate with you, or that will honeypot in other town that are trying to cooperate you will make you lose.
It's just like Slayer's gambit.

But @Bella....I suppose it's possible that there would be two scum teams of only one faction, but I would think it would be highly improbable. It just seems very, very townsided even if you take Thor's possible investigative power out of the equation. Two masons mean one clear and another three investigative roles that could, in the right circumstances, yield definitive results each night.

I haven't played with neighbors/neighborizers very much (or possibly at all), but they've never seemed like they were all that powerful to me. They often appear to be scum (the game Lapsa linked had a scum neighbor), and the neighborhood does not allow any sort of clearing capability if I understand it correctly.

As for the idea of how many factions we want to have alive going into the night, if we assume multiball or 3 scum/1 SK then I believe it would actually be in town's interests to leave both anti-town groups alive going into the night. That would give town a chance that one group kills off the other, which would give town the majority of the votes again. And it would be in the smaller group's interests to kill scum.

Whereas if we are at 6 players, three of which are scum, then killing off the smaller faction via lynching would leave us at 5 players, two of which are scum going into the night. The remaining faction kills a townie, bringing it to 4 players, two of which are scum on the same faction -- which means that faction wins.

Right now I'm trying to deal with some cognitive dissonance in my head. If we are only up against one faction and no serial killer, we have to assume that there is a PGO or something similar and then we have to ask why the PGO/whatever didn't claim yesterday.

If we are up against two factions then we are lacking an explanation for why there has only been one kill for the past two nights.

Earlier today at work I was also thinking about this, e.g. what the smartest thing to do for town was. I had come to the opposite conclusion but looking at this, Tool is completely right. If you kill off the remaining Infrared player, then the Ultraviolet scumteam basically win at night. However, by keeping alive both scumteams and instead lynching one from the team of two, then that introduces the idea of both teams shooting the same person, one team being RBed (or really in this case being BP, but w/e), or some other shenanigans happening. That at least ensures a CHANCE that town can win, wheras keeping both UV alive doesn't.

I'll say that this post by Tool is really one of the smartest posts in the game.

The only thing I can think, if there are two factions, is that one scum-team know who the other one is, as they'd've used a RB on a player, and then noted that only 'their' kill went through. Ugh.

At this point, I feel like all of the people who are still saying "Oh, there MIGHT be two factions" need to be autolynched. Like, that's clearly them trying to smokescreen the setup. Also, if I were scum in this setup on day 4, I'm pretty sure i'd be agreeing right along with the town and saying "Yea, there's definitely two factions" instead of tippytoeing around it.

Tool's point about the not killing the other scum is also interesting, hadn't thought of that.

Really he's being silly - there's no logical reason for me to try to lynch scum today over kill them at night.

The only time town should self hammer is to avoid a no lynch at deadline in an early day (D1 for smaller games, or D1/D2 for larger games), and only if you are a VT, IMO.

Yea, town really just shouldn't do that except for strategy reasons. Scum really shouldn't either. Nobody should.

While I think it's terrible play, I can understand people getting frustrated during a game and just wanting to end it. I get it. That's why I haven't done a whole lot to push like punishment on those people who did it this game. Mostly because they were going to get the noose anyhow, but also because they've all been from a frustrated VT point of view, not from a LOL IM FUCKING UP A GAME point of view.
