4. You may ask me questions either in the thread or via PM. For some questions, I may be willing to answer via PM but not in-thread for a variety of reasons.
5. Do not quote private communication with me directly. Paraphrasing is acceptable; if you're not sure whether a post violates this rule, ask me or don't post it. You also may not pretend to quote communications with me. This includes your Role PM.

Procedural Rules

2. A player is considered lynched when he or she reaches a number of votes equal to half the number of living players rounded down plus one.
3. You may continue discussion in twilight before I show up and lock the thread. Do not post after I officially state that you are dead.
4. If no majority is reached by deadline there will be No Lynch.
5. Days will have a non-negotiable deadline of 2 weeks. I may choose to extend a deadline in special circumstances, but it's unlikely. Don't count on it.
6. Nights last 48 hours.
7. Prods go out after 48 hours. Failure to post in a timely fashion after a prod, or accumulating several prods, may result in force replacement at my discretion.
8. As per Normal rules, you may not use a role-based ability in the same night as a factional ability (including factional kill) unless your role PM specifically permits you.
9. All Private Topics, including any Mafia factions, have daytalk enabled.

The first round of turns goes more or less as expected. Everyone consolidates their most dense areas, and abandons isolated territories. Pine, of course, dumps his entire troop complement into Australia, while other teams carve up the Americas, Africa, and Europe. The black and grey teams get stuck in a land war in Asia, because they're dumb. That's always a sucker's bet.

Sometimes, in a game of Risk, people make bold moves early, and try to seize enemy territory before it gets fully consolidated. Not so this time. Black decided to give up on Asia and dig into South America, but those gray idiots are still slugging it out in Asia, this time with green. Everyone else is fortifying their borders. A few quiet "back room" deals go down, and with a wink and a nod, Central America becomes a demilitarized zone as a resurgent black focuses on the blue Africans, and the red North Americans seal their borders after picking off the last stragglers of opposing armies. Meanwhile, Pine's yellow forces slowly creep up out of Australia to menace, but not engage, the combatants in Asia from a position of strength.

Okay, I've tried being low-key about this, I've tried being direct, and it doesn't seem to be working. In consultation with the listmod, I am invoking Rules #2 and #9:

I'm sorry, but after multiple player complaints and three public warnings, one of them addressed directly to you, with no change in behavior, you're out. Picking a fight with me over my ruleset is a bridge too far. As stated in the rules, Mafia is indeed an adversarial game, but your rhetoric has been entirely too harsh and personal. If you have a problem with this, feel free to take it up with the listmod (implosion).

As the deadline is nowhere near expired, it will not be paused while a replacement is found.

Inferno may stay, assuming he wants to, with a warning directed at him to cool his jets.

Brassherald also receives a warning for same.

Don't bring toxicity into my game.

A new round commences, and things aren't looking good for gray. Three turns in, and they've spent most of their capital on futile attempts to take Asia. Sensing imminent defeat, gray turtles up, taking a single territory and drawing the remnants of their shattered forces in to Ural to survive for reinforcements. The red team takes the opportunity and sweeps through northeastern Asia, taking a handful of lightly-defended territories with little resistance. Green does the same, taking a couple of western Asian regions and effectively reducing gray to their single strong base. Black and blue, meanwhile, are engaged in a struggle on the South America-Africa border, spending lives frivolously in a stalemate, neither managing to breach the other. Pine continues his slow, powerful roll up through southern Asia, taking India, China, and Siberia, holding all three strongly and not pressing his advantage.

It's that time of the game where the pressure is really on. It's do-or-die time - make your move or gtfo. Black hurls everything it has into taking North Africa, and manages to eke out a victory. They've really spent everything they had on the attrition game, though, and hold most of their few territories with only a single soldier. It looks like they were gambling on getting a card set to recoup losses, but from the crestfallen expressions on some of the team's faces, it didn't happen. Blue easily retakes North Africa with its Egyptian forces, but doesn't bother defending their borders. They know they can't hold them - instead, it looks like they'll be making a push to wipe black out and seize their cards. Red sees the opportunity, though, and drops all of their reinforcements into the Mexican border, sweeping down into South America with a rueful shrug at the broken alliance. Fortunately (or unfortunately) black gets a run of good luck and manages to hold on to a measly single region. They're essentially screwed, but could possibly be a kingmaker. Green takes a good long look at gray, also eyeing the card stack in their possession, but decides not to overextend and instead hits Greenland...hard. They take the North American territory, breaking red's hold on the continent, and fortify the hell out of it to deny their opponent the bonus. Yellow continues its slow build in southeast Asia, devouring two more territories while keeping its forces concentrated in as few well-defended border zones as possible.

As anyone familiar with my GTKAS or game-planning may be aware, I have worked at a summer camp for...Jesus, 18 years now. We're in our intensive week-long staff training. I'm senior staff, but I do the fun program stuff. I have a good deal of free/unstructured time, but a lot of it is devoted to planning activities. Given the pace of the game, I decided not to avail myself of my back-up mod's services (Aristophanes, should it become relevant). I will make a concerted effort to post at least one content-filled Vote Count per day. My schedule should relax on Friday (most of my training responsibilities are midweek) and then settle into a highly scheduled but very regular pattern.

After a long and eventful turn, the game is clearly moving into its final stages. Gambits have been made and broken, and now it's time for the victors to clean up the board. Black adds its measly reinforcements to the board, and openly discusses its options. They don't have the manpower to recover, but they can likely blunt or cripple another player. They've been fighting blue all game, and blue is clearly in position to eliminate the team regardless of what black does, but...they had a deal with red. Black aims its small army northward, and actually manages to fight its way into Central America before running out of steam. They take a card with a tip of the hat towards blue. The blue team, true to form, returns the respectful gesture, and absolutely steamrolls black. Blue takes all of South America and pushes up into the north, finally eliminating the black team. They take the cards from their fallen opponent, and per the rules, are obligated to immediately turn them in...and also the set they were already holding. A veritable flood of blue soldiers suddenly dumps into Central America, and the blue team routs red out of North America, even evicting green from Greenland. They end turn horribly over-extended...but holding three continents. Gray also turns in a cardset, and finally makes a move. They use the bludgeon of their single massive stack to hammer into green's border forces and force their way into Europe, taking the eastern half before retiring. Red spends its turn (and cards) rallying its Asian forces in an unsuccessful bid to retake North America, though they do crack blue's monopoly there. Lastly, the yellow team finally makes its big move on Asia, turning in its card set and sweeping the remaining red and gray forces from the continent, restoring its border forces in the Middle East, Ukraine, and Kamchatka.

The fifth turn starts with every team in a precarious position. Everyone is either overextended or severely disadvantaged. Blue begins, cashing in its continent bonuses for South America and Africa, with a sizeable dynamic bonus simply for holding almost half the map...if weakly. They shore up their defenses in northern Africa, and use the rest of their income to polish off the reds in Canada. Seizing red's cards, blue fortifies its holdings, though it doesn't bother trying to contest North America. Green finally makes its move, cashing in a card set and exploding out of the remnants of its European misadventure. They warm up by eliminating the pernicious grays in Europe, ending their ambition for a comeback, and then march south, barreling into Africa. Egypt falls, and blue pauses. They confer for a moment with Pine and his yellow team, and end with an accord that sees yellow agreeing to withdraw from Europe and leave green alone, and in exchange both teams will focus on the blue threat. Thus agreed, green presses forth in Africa, and chases blue from its ancestral home. On yellow's turn, they honor the treaty and pivot for North America, the hordes of troops granted from the combined Asia and Australia bonuses sufficient to overwhelm the guard in Alaska and crush its way all the way to the Mexican border.

dramonic has been toeing the line of getting warned, but has not crossed it, in my opinion. Everyone simmer down. Mafia is adversarial by nature, but does not need to get personal - this goes for both those giving offense, and those who take offense too easily.

It's crunch time. Once-mighty blue has been reduced to the South American continent. On their turn, blue reinforces their position mightily, with their last remaining cards. Sizing up their targets carefully, the blue team strikes northward, taking Central America to weaken yellow. Green starts its turn disadvantaged. It holds Europe and Africa, but yellow holds Asia, Australia, and the bulk of North America. They wisely realize that their only chance is to starve out yellow, which is fairly overextended, and strike eastward from Ukraine and Egypt, chewing up portions of Asia and breaking through to strike at the heart of yellow's enterprise, pushing as far as Indonesia. Yellow starts awkwardly, with plenty of standing forces out of position and scant reinforcements. They choose to not contest North America, and concentrate on kicking green back out of Australia and Asia. The dice roll well for yellow, and they take the opportunity to return the favor and take Ukraine, denying green the bigger continent bonus.

Blue's in a bind. They could try to stage a comeback and likely fail, or they could resign themselves to being kingmakers. Screw it. It's a game, and you only live once. They load up for bear in Brazil, and kick down green's front door, trying to retake their former base. Unfortunately, the dice just aren't having it. The offensive is nearly stalled entirely by green's last trooper in North Africa, who single-handedly takes down six blue soldiers. Blue wins a Pyrrhic victory, and takes the territory. Green spends its turn retaking Ukraine and North Africa, and settles in for the endgame.

Blue's in a bind. They could try to stage a comeback and likely fail, or they could resign themselves to being kingmakers. Screw it. It's a game, and you only live once. They load up for bear in Brazil, and kick down green's front door, trying to retake their former base. Unfortunately, the dice just aren't having it. The offensive is nearly stalled entirely by green's last trooper in North Africa, who single-handedly takes down six blue soldiers. Blue wins a Pyrrhic victory, and takes the territory. Green spends its turn retaking Ukraine and North Africa, and settles in for the endgame.

Yellow capitalizes on the ineffectiveness of the other teams, and lays down a card set. As soon as the other players see the set drop, on top of yellow's continent bonuses and dominant position, means the game is effectively over. Sure enough, yellow drops a metric crapton of troops in the Middle East, and begins to stomp their way through Europe.

Flubbernugget shoots back, apparently referencing Seinfeld. With nothing left to lose and the winner a foregone conclusion, Flubber completes the bit and flips the board, sending multicolored armies flying.
"Screw this game! Every damn time I think I'm winning, you pull some cards or whatever out of your ass and win!"


The tirade had quickly risen to a crescendo, as half-drunken near-wins are wont to do, but Flubbet ignores his teammates' frantic attempts to hush him. When he finally stops, everything is dead silent...except for a shrill and piercing baby's cry.

The near-silence is deafening.

The crazy builds ominously in Pine's eyes as he rants, his fists clenching and unclenching, and suddenly he springs to his feet, grabbing a handful of fallen green, blue, and yellow army tokens. He kicks Flubbernugget down and shoves the fistful of pieces into his mouth, holding the nose to make sure they go down. When Flubber chokes and tries to inhale, a second handful follows, with a few cannons shoved up his nostrils to finish the job.

Long moments follow, with Flubbernugget's heels drumming on the floor, trying in vain to draw breath. Eventually, silence reigns again, broken only by a baby's cry.

With dramonic flipped, I feel comfortable now commenting on the D1 discussion of whether the role was Normal.

The new Normal rules opened up a lot of latitude in X-night modifiers. I decided to do something unusual, just for funsies. I cleared this directly with implosion. The relevant passage:

Play progresses around the table, and Pine is pretty free with his help, asking for treasure in return. With so many players, he gets to help several times, and manages to collect the Boots of Butt-Kicking (+2), a Vorpal Blade (+3, or +13 if the monster starts with J), and a sweet Go Up A Level card (Boil an Anthill!). So when it comes around to his turn, he's in a pretty good position...but still not strong enough to solo...the Bigfoot!

Looking around the table, he offers the first pick of treasure for anyone to help, but no one's interested. He sighs, and offers the first and third pick. Still the only help offered is from one of the other players, an Elf with a Bow With Ribbons. He'd beat the monster, but...the opponent would get a level out of it. Oh well, can't be helped. The two players combine their strength, and take down the Bigfoot. Damn! There's another Go Up a Level in there, which the Elf takes in addition to the level he's entitled to. Pine does manage to snag the sweet Shield of Ubiquity, though, which suits his class. Even better, the third treasure is just a Ten-Foot Pole, which is useless to the Elf, as his hands are already occupied.

For those curious about the lack of flavor, I use images for inspiration, and it's bloody hard to find unadulterated Munchkin images. Because I love all you fine folks, I'm going to go home in an hour or so to feed the cats (I spend 23.5 hours/day at camp from Sunday afternoon-Friday evening) and I'm going to pick up my actual Munchkin set. From now on, the monsters and treasures will be (slightly) random! I'll even snap the pictures myself and upload them.

Hello all.

I apologize for my absence, I've had very limited access due to a cell phone problem. My SIM card needed to be replaced, and I haven't been able to access my data network or make a call or anything for several days. I have a laptop at camp, but very limited time to use it. All fixed now.

This is my top catch-up priority, and I am presently passing on swimming during an annual family camping trip to give you a VC and update. Flavor will have to wait until we get home tomorrow night, but will be worth the wait.

The thread was locked because, like you, I thought there was a hammer. The problem was noticed when I produced a full VC and did my standard replacement doctrine. Had Andrius chosen to stay when I chatted with him on Discord, his vote would have remained in effect and ended the day. Hence locking the thread.

Further, I stated that the problem was discovered when I went to process the replacement request. If it had been pointed out to me, I would have said something to that effect while retaining anonymity. "No unanticipated moderator lies" is a central tenet of Normal game doctrine.

Searching for additional meaning in my actions is likely a fruitless effort. I tend not to obfuscate if I can help it.

I use Natural Action Resolution method when it becomes necessary to determine order in the case of conflict. Any notes in role PMs specifically dictating order of course trump that model.

Prods have gone out for MagnaofIllusion, Taly, Nosferatu, and Pine. These will not be counted against them in the long run due to my own spotty presence, and I will consider a deadline extension.

I apologize for my absence. This past week was perhaps the roughest of the year, and required an immense amount of attention at work. Things are settling back down, but Pinecone (who turned three months old on Thursday) is coming down with something that I hope is just a passing cold. I’m out of town for the weekend, but should be able to post a VC in a couple of hours.

I ran a 19-player game the other day for a few groups of boys. Mostly 9-12. 4 west side Mafia vs 4 east side Mafia vs 10 VTs and a Vig. I called it “Gang Warfare”. Town won with half their numbers intact. It was a bloodbath.

Pinecone has a mild case of croup. Spent much of yesterday in the ER. Talked to five nurses and four doctors. They were hesitant to make a diagnosis because she doesn't have the classic seal-bark cough, but rather a strong wet cough that occasionally sounds a bit bark-y.

She'll be fine. Croup is a known quantity that we can handle. Treat symptoms, keep airway clear, try steam and cold air, should run its course in 2-7 days.

Between that and replacements, have an extra day of night.

Okay, as this is becoming a serious issue for speculation, I will comment on/confirm one detail, which ought to lay to rest this debate. As I cannot discuss unflipped roles, this will be in regards to MoI's/Kokichi's Disloyal Mafia Fruit Vendor, and any conclusions you draw regarding similar roles will be your own.

For the role in question, a list of possible fruits was drawn up, and every time MoI/Kokichi vended, a die was rolled against that table. The target then received the indicated fruit.

I remind you that non-random details such as fruit-a-day or kill flavors associated with a specific killer/faction are established as non-Normal.

Frankly, I think that would have been a game-winning move for you, and worth a Scummy nomination. Particularly if you followed it up with killing tw the following night. Pity tw thought you were Town, and therefore safe to kill.

I said so in the dead thread, I'll say so here: I think all three factions played a good game, and some very solid performances got defeated by others' competence.

Shoutout to the worst, who is frankly the Town MVP. He joked about conceding, and I was seriously considering calling it a joint win if he had.

I'm actually seriously considering nominating the worst for a "Best Third Party" Scummy despite the wide margin of the Town win here. In this game, I think it's a solid case of the Serial Killer being too accurate for their own good.

Anyone else have thoughts on that?

In the dead thread I roleplayed a scenario where Skygazer could have darkhorsed a win, even that late. If she'd correctly guessed a fruitvend, her odds would have gone waaaay up.

I know I fell down a bit on the flavor this game, and for that you have my apologies.

However, if you enjoy my design aesthetics and the early flavor of this game, Aristophanes and I are in the process of designing a new theme game.

Working title: Plead Your Case
Size: 14 players*
Bastard: No, some disclosed elements
Mechanics: In the confirmation stage, everyone will submit a ranked-order list of preference to become the game’s Magistrate. The Magistrate will become a Town-aligned Treestump, with an important caveat: theirs is the only vote which matters. What the Magistrate says, goes. They have the sole power to dictate lynches, and thus all cases and arguments will be addressed to the Magistrate. They will also have power over procedure, able to set new rules and restrictions (within reason). The remainder of the players will then be issued standard roles in a typical 10:3 spread.
