I would think an experimental Open queue (for multiball, themey, bastard, and other unusual open setups) with it's own set of Approved Open Setups would be a great idea assuming new moderators can join the Experimental Open queue and use one of the Approved Experimental Open setups at least.
That way those who are expecting twists on the normal Mafia can go to the Experimental Open queue while those who want to play a classic setup of Mafia can go to the Basic Open queue.time will end-

Experimental Open setups can just be run in the Mini Theme queue, to be honest. That queue usually moves way quicker, and open setups sometimes get run in there anyway. It's always the same. When you fire that first shot, no matter how right you feel, you have no idea who's going to die. You don't know whose children are going to scream and burn. How many hearts will be broken. How many lives shattered. How much blood will spill, until everybody does what they're always going to have to do from the very beginning... SIT DOWN AND TALK!-

My main problem with this is it prevents new moderators from running a setup that isn't normal or basic. In post 51, Something_Smart wrote:Experimental Open setups can just be run in the Mini Theme queue, to be honest. Balance is important, and new moderators probably shouldn't run wild theme games, and I don't think pre-designed Mini Theme games will be a thing anytime soon.
New moderators should have an easier time getting into the bigger queues imo.
I also think it might end up diluting the theme queues if experimental opens have to be ran there, but it already is happening with opens bypassing the stagnating open queue.time will end-

You can have some interesting normal setups. And besides, the moderation requirements are not that strictIn post 53, TemporalLich wrote:

What about allowing players to /pre-in to specific setups, even if no mods are currently in queue to run them?
If a setup receives enough /pre-ins, we could then run through the queue (front to back) until we found a mod willing to run it, and bump them to the front of the queue as long as they ran that setup.scum· scam · seam · team · term · tern · torn ·town-

that's a great idea, though you'd get /pre-ins in the queueIn post 59, callforjudgement wrote:What about allowing players to /pre-in to specific setups, even if no mods are currently in queue to run them?

If you guys really want the Open Queue to work, you guys should just have players sign up for setups, and once the setup is full, assign the game to a mod.My favorite site mod is Zor Tester.
I have Brandi's autograph! I bet you're jealous.
Send me a PM if you want to replace in!-

Events do nothing for the queues. In post 62, chennisden wrote:tbh the solution is just to host some sort of big open event

This actually seems like a viable option, tbh.In post 63, FakeGod wrote:If you guys really want the Open Queue to work, you guys should just have players sign up for setups, and once the setup is full, assign the game to a mod.
Have a list of open games that are approved, and then when one fills drop it into the next mod's hands.
New/Experimental setups could take signups on a case by case basis or else run in micro/theme queues. This is a Parachute.-

Actually, I'm of the opinion that Open Queue should be removed.
I can run any of the Open Setup games in any of the other queue when I want, so...
Can someone tell me what purpose this queue serves on this site?My favorite site mod is Zor Tester.

first time modding can be in the open queue so I guess it's relevant for someone like meIn post 67, FakeGod wrote:Actually, I'm of the opinion that Open Queue should be removed.

Yes, but with the normal queue having pre-designed setups, this is less of an issue. In post 68, nomnomnom wrote:

I guess we don't want the normal queue 100% clogged with new moderators, but I feel we could just funnel all new mods to the normal queue.-

Speaking of which, I think we should change the rules so that a new mod can run any mini/micro game so long as a mod in good standing (eligible to run larges, hasn't modflaked ever) signs off on their setup and agrees to co/backup in order to ensure the game is run to completion. This is a Parachute.-

Yeah, I've never understood why new moderators cannot run micros. I imagine the restriction on mini themes is because new moderators have a poor sense of balance and setup design. In post 72, Jingle wrote:Speaking of which, I think we should change the rules so that a new mod can run any mini/micro game so long as a mod in good standing (eligible to run larges, hasn't modflaked ever) signs off on their setup and agrees to co/backup in order to ensure the game is run to completion.-

You could put like 8 open setups in the queue at the time and allow players to /in and specify which of those setups they'd be willing to play (are they turned off by mountainousness, multiball, investigatives? Depends on the sensibilities of who happens to be around the queue).
The /ins could be understood to be automatic /outs if a setup they inned for fills. Then that setup is assigned a mod and people play it. That shouldn't fracture or segment the queue it should create consensus.
Killing the open queue isn't a terrible idea tbh.
The open queue is the only queue that is not a disjoint category from all the other queues as far as I know. It's the only one that creates overlap."Let us say that you are right and there are two worlds. How much, then, is this 'other world' worth to you? What do you have there that you do not have here? Money? Power? Something worth causing the prince so much pain for?'"
"Well, I..."
"What? Nothing? You would make the prince suffer over... nothing?"
