I suggest reading the setup before making such definite criticisms, GreyICE. I have become convinced the more I read your comments that you have very selectively skimmed the setup in order to try and win an argument as the comments seem to be divorced from either a holistic understanding of the setup or a specific understanding of many of its features. Not getting it all in the first reading is understandable given the breadth and complexity of the setup, but it makes it hard to have a real conversation about the game.

Voting and lynching play an integral part in the economics of the game. There are four abilities that have to do with either, and voting is perhaps the linchpin (har har) of the economic system, requiring that the town work together with resources (rather than hoarding) and trading. Regardless of THAT, the abilities themselves are in no way set. I point this out at the beginning of the abilities list when I say, "It’s meant more to give an idea of what types of roles might be in the game than to actually list them. "

Well I meant that the type of mechanic purchasing and other abilities works better when there's an ability to form alliances and break alliances. Overall the structure of Mafia can be described as an 'uninformed majority and informed minority' whereas the structure in a game like Diplomacy can best be described as 'a group of players at varying information levels with fundamentally incompatible goals but who must work together in order to stand a chance of achieving those goals.'

I think the latter suits the mechanics and game you're describing better. If you think Diplomacy is less strategic than Mafia... it isn't. Just VERY differently strategic. I've played quite a bit in my time, and do NOT think winning at it is any easier than winning at Mafia. It's in some ways quite a bit harder.

If you disagree... okay. It wasn't meant as an insult. It was meant as an observation.

Would any one be interested in a Demons Soul themed game?? Of coarse a mod would be needed (not me). http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/ if you don't know about it or characters.

Any one played this game??

Possible set.

Most likely a game of 20 people.

Third Party Roles

Serial Killer- Old Monk(due to he represents insanity)
Survivor: Maiden in Black

Mafia-
-Executioner Miralda. Role: Executioner
-King Allant Role: Godfather
-Phalanx Role: Role Blocker
-Yurt, the Silent Chief Role: Traitor
-Fat officials. Role: Mafai Goon

Townie Roles
- Patches the Hyena. Role: Flavor Cop or thief
-Garl Vinland. Role: Role blocker
-Maiden Astraea Role: Doctor
-Yuri the Witch. Role: Witch
-Saint Urbain Role: Priest or Reviver with limitations
- And other people are vanilla townies, just pick random people from the game for that.

How does this sound?? Of coarse there can be role switches, those where just examples.

I'm currently designing a nine-player Mini Theme game based off the people of WingerDinger Production, a group formed by multiple somewhat obscure Youtube users. I'm pretty sure I'm the only one who knows who in the world they are, so to help you guys understanding what in the world I'm basing this game off of, it's based off people like Hellsing920, darknessthecurse, RandomDCE, etc. If you know anyone of them or people that they are affiliated with, you probably know what I'm talking about.

There aren't going to be any special mechanics, aside from the flavor (Which will not influence the game, just supplement it and make the game more fun). It's simple because I don't want to go overboard with new mechanics in my first theme game and want to make sure I understand how to run a theme game properly.

Now let me say this, I plan for this game to have more of an adult (Even offensive) theme then my previous game, which is mainly due to the flavor. Now the problem being is that I'm not sure what the limit is for allowing adult theme into my game. I obviously can't put in pornography and dead babies (Which I do not want to see period on this forum, the latter should not ever be seen), but I want my flavor to be as close to what you would see on Encyclopedia Dramatica as I can without it breaking site rules. I understand the rules, but I'd like to ensure that my game doesn't get me banned or suspended. I guess xRECKONERx's Guys Part 2 Mini Theme Mafia is a good rule of thumb not to cross the line it set?

As for how far in development it is, I know how many players I plan to put on the game, how many townies/scums will be in the game, the role names, the introductory flavor, and two role PMs made, but I am not finished with development yet, so I have no plans on setting it out for reviews until I have finished making the set-up. I also plan to run this game by myself, as I am confident that I will have no need of a back-up mod.

Another thing I want to say, my development of this game is on and off, so it may be awhile before I finish it up completely (Yeah I'm lazy, but it's better to take your time on it then what I did when creating the last game and hash-up a set-up with a governor in it).

I feel it's working extremely well given the type of game. The first iteration ended in classic lylo. The second was a clear town victory, but that was more due to strong town play than a critical failure in the setup. I think the delay in nuke availability plus the draft system giving some players non-nuclear roles replaces a lot of the madness and insanity often associated with these types of games with strategy and calculation.

I am in the market for a Back up Mod and co-designer for a Large Theme game (target 18 players) for any of the following three themes -

The Dresden Files - Books 1 to 3
Final Fantasy 7 Mafia
Classic Marvel Superhero Mafia

All three will have some varying degree of complexity in either non-standard mechanics or highly customized roles.

PM me if you are interested.
"I am a leaf on the wind ... watch how I soar!"

Pretty much Geriatric game restricted at this point ... unless there are players I REALLY want to play with.

I've completed a professional wrestling mafia game I'll be calling CHK Mafia. It's based on actual pro-wrestlers, but it's from a diary I started for a game called EWR.

In other words, some of these guys haven't been in an actual company together; however, if you're a fan of wrestling, all the roles are well known.

@zoraster: I think the game has an interesting mechanic people have to take resources openly to buy actions secretely(why do you keep taking Alphas). But it is too complex, as an exercise try making the simplest possible game with the mechanic intact and then perhaps add a few more elements.

Yes, Extreme Warfare Revenge. I'm classic like that.

But like I said they're all real professional wrestlers, it's merely a created company with new storylines.

So, there are a few game ideas that have come to mind while I was away from site... I could use input onto which to prioritize, as well as reviewers/backup mods/people to bounce ideas off of. (Note that my next Mini Theme will be Blaz Blue: Calamity Trigger Mafia, without question.)

Mini Themes:

Bionicle Mafia (formerly Mask Mafia)
- A spiritual successor of sorts to Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask. Yes, that means cool new mask powers. Currently in early preproduction, will need reviewers/backup mods eventually.

Uncertain Size Themes:

Placeholder (most likely either Mind Screw Mafia X.5 or TRADTiMM 2)
- Game size somewhere in the 13-14 range. Probably a special. Includes one extremely unusual mechanic, one I'm still not sure how to balance. Reviewers/backup mods/etc. requested.

Large Themes:

Yandere Dimensional Asylum (20-odd players)
- Closest to being ready, but probably needs extensive review (and definitely needs a backup mod). Lots of crazy characters. Other craziness also very likely.
Mind Screw Mafia 5 (21 players?)
-
It's baaack...
and I'm going for more of a Mind Screw 1 feel this time. In the late stages of preproduction, it's about ready to start writing roles - I have some HILARIOUS ideas, but I still need to flesh out the more normal stuff. (Heh. Mind Screw and normal in the same sentence.) Needs reviewers, backup mods, and anyone with awesome ideas. Knowing the player base around here, this will probably be my next large theme.
Stargate Verse Mafia (30 players)
- Three series, 17 seasons, tons of characters, one theme. The Tau'ri are in danger, will you join the fight? In early preproduction. Backup mods/reviewers will be needed, probably later rather than sooner but that may change if there is high interest.

Actually, no. That sentence does not contain the words Mind Screw.
