I just realized I need to check what version i use now too... I only have 4gb of ram on my laptop but I have a dedicated graphics card so I might be missing a whole gig worth of ram for minecraft. I feel retarded.

Can I make a request though? Can whoever built the bridge across the harbor from my dock create a section in the middle that has at least a 2-block gap above the water surface so I can get boats through?

That would be me - and yes, I'll make it go above the water. Maybe not for a couple of days, though - I won't be on much and I'd like to do it properly. In the meantime, you're welcome to just chop a hole in it if it's urgent.

Nice! I only have 6 GB and no dedicated graphics and I get by ok, so you should be totally lag-free.

I have 4 gb with 2 gb dedi graphics.

I put 4GB in my wife's computer when I built it a year or so ago (probably almost 2 years now, eh, it was just before win7 came out). Haven't had big problems yet, but I haven't played minecraft since before the update.

Also just FYI, if you're using 64bit OS's, make sure you're using 64-bit versions of programs - i.e. if you're using 32-bit java all that extra ram might as well be calculating PI in the background, because minecraft won't be using it. Easy thing to overlook. Also, driver updates have fixed things for me like random hard crashes I was getting while playing minecraft. I've got onboard graphics though.

I made sure of this, to get the 64 bit java and whatnot.

And I use MagicLauncher which lets you chose how much RAM to dedicate to whichever jar file you are using, and on my modded file I run 2 and a half gigs into java.

Sign Portals.

You can't (at this moment) use it. I don't have permissions set up. Basically it was my way of compensating for the lack of a /home /sethome command. Once an official Release Build of bukkit comes out, you should have access to /sethome and /home commands, rendering Sortal Useless, other than for Admisn to take you to interesting builds.
