Community (along with 30 Rock and P&R) is getting an abbreviated 13-episode season four before being axed by NBC at midseason next year.

Yeah, except it doesn't make any sense from a business standpoint to do a 13-episode half-season...this gives Community 82 total episodes (I think), and most networks that buy syndication rights to show re-runs will buy when the show hits 88 episodes. I feel like it would have made more sense for NBC to order a full fourth season (or I guess 19 episodes instead of 13) and call it a day after that if the ratings didn't improve. Then again, NBC can't seem to do anything right these days.

So turns out the real story is Community, Parks & Rec, and 30 Rock for 13-ep seasons, but ONLY 30 ROCK'S is the end of the series. Likely result is that if one of the other half-season runs they have on bombs, or if Community gets decent ratings, then it gets 30 Rock's spot when that finishes.

Shitney got renewed as well though... so NBC aren't exactly thinking straight.
Shitney is really, really lucky. I actually think that's good because I feel like it give Community another meat shield.

I don't think it was remotely disappointing. I think I'll need a little distance before comparing it to paradigms, but there are instances where I felt it was pretty genius.
