giant darkroom + water elevators + lava blade at head level that kills mobs without destroying loot
no exp but lots of stuffs

So, the server is back up.... i wonder if bukkit + all the mob grinders is putting too much load on the server.

If you guys could add those wonderful, wonderful redstone lights to your grinders, and keep them lit when not using them, that might reduce the chance of the server crashing in a ball of flame!

To be honest, chesskid, I have no idea why the server crashed. Sometimes the server will complain about "running out of memory"... it did that once or twice before bukkit, and now it seems to be doing that all the time, so I THINK the mob spawners might be the reason.

Does anyone else have big mobspawners around? I think there is one that is kinda abandoned in the swamp between town and my island.

Xalxe: I've considered it. Bukkit messes up with the nether folder, so it takes a tiny bit of work, so I won't do it right now... let me play a little bit more with it first.

FWIW, I've been getting what I've deemed "graphics hiccups" where my screen will freeze briefly then zoom ahead. I don't think this is just me, nor is it clientside.

If your screen is freezing, then it sounds clientside. the client and the server just exchange block data among them.

I don't think mine is the problem, but just to be honest...I have a cave spider farm, but it only works if you are within range, and I haven't ventured down there in ages.

Hey Dram!

What kind of gamer are you? Once I described minecraft for a friend, and he said "sounds boring". Other people love it. It is mostly a creative game. If you like building stuff and exploring as much or more as badassly stomping enemies to the ground, I think you're gonna enjoy it.

Claus, I think the farm that puts the most strain on the server is the blaze farm. The trouble with that is that redstone lamps won't light it up well enough to stop the spawning. I think a lava mechanism could, but lava is really buggy so I don't really want to start sticking it all over my farms...
