Reck/Grimm: I left you two a little gift outside your house, by the animal pens.
I found it in the forest by the Vinelands Communal Forest House. Enjoy!

Also this really should go in the Theme Test Market...but putting it here felt so much more appropriate.
Who would be interested in playing a Minecraft-Themed Mafia Game?

Or has it been done, and if so may I have a link to see if they had the same idea I did?

P-Edit: Ummm, you sure? I seem to remember TNT/Creepers barely denting Smooth Stone, and "ripping straight through" Cobble much more easily. But in general I would agree, let's get some Nether Stars for Beacons in key areas, but leave those bitches alone if you can.

Walked it before official completion last night - great construction Fishy! I loved the change from Cobble to Wood Logs as we entered the Taiga. Was that out of necessity or an aesthetic choice? Either way, nicely done. I didn't walk the whole thing though...I only went from SpawnTown to where the path hits Frozen Ocean and makes a sharp right...even that was a long way though.

I was looking for where AMIDST said a Stronghold would be, but I guess that part had generated before the Biome generation changes - hell, you all probably FOUND all the Strongholds before the Biome generation changes.

I love looking on the dynmap and seeing just an edge of Taiga and then a dramatic switch to Desert or ExHills.
It's so ridiculous it reminds me of Maryland's climate.

Hey playerlist: what would everybody think about using TNT for the Spleef Arena in the future? (e.g after the current tournament)

If you'll remember, TNT only takes one hit to destroy and is harmless as long as nobody's carrying Fire/Lava/Redstone around with them while Spleefing (which I would think would be against the rules anyway). It would be much quicker and would require tools to play this way. I'll be figuring out how much it would take to fill the arena + have some extra, but if anybody else likes this idea lemme know.

Anybody who doesn't...politely say why? I dunno.

Also I thought Hiraki vs. Pizza already went down. Lemme know when it's happening so I can hop on server and watch for a few minutes.
"Know thy opponent" and all that. I'll be slightly hard to get in touch with over the next couple weeks; my play is going into tech, but keep me apprised. Thanks!

Yeah I understand, but that'd be the only qualm I could see anyone having.
And can't we all be mature enough *NOT* to blow up the Spleef Arena?

P.S. If the TNT
is
ever activated, it would start to fall to Bedrock as it becomes effected by gravity (when it turns into an entity, rather than a Block). I think it might even explode mid-air, but if it doesn't, repairing the Bedrock/Cobble death floor is a small price to pay if somebody does actually try to grief, no?

@Xalxe: /back on death has not and never works for me. It's possible it's an OP-only allowed feature.
Also, the bed sets a separate "Home" which Klazam and I have been utilizing...please don't change this if it is a bug.

Currently, the location of "/home" can be set simply by typing "/sethome" into the console.
Sleeping in a bed sets a separate "Home", which can be reached by typing "/home bed" into the console.

EDIT: I don't think this is a bug, I believe it's the game's automatic "home-set-by-sleeping-in-a-bed" feature. The "/home" and "/sethome" are Bukkit/modded server specific. But I could be wrong. Not that it matters...I'd just like the feature to stay. :good:

This. Protect their lovely minds...
Let us know where he's building mike!

P.S. Xalxe / any others who witnessed it in mid-construction:

High above Honeyopolis... (too high for my shitty Desktop to properly render...) there now floats a massive sphere.

Image

Dubbed "The Crystal Cathedral" (credit: Klazam) for it's focus on Glass and Glowstone, this 33-block wide sphere has to be seen to be believed.
Currently almost entirely empty, the Cathedral will soon house monuments to the kind denizens of the MafiaScum server who have had an impact on its Creator in his relatively short time on the server. The first floor and the basement storage area also serve as the Creator's new living spaces, so please be courteous when visiting (and leave the guards at their posts, they're rather "cold-shouldered" anyway).

Image

The Cathedral is currently only accessible through the roof of Maestro's Hotel Honeyopolis.
Please don't break down walls if you want to get a look inside, PM me and I'll be happy to start work on an easily accessible pathway to reach it if there's interest.

VOTE: Waiting for Bukkit 1.4
VOTE: Unwhitelist Non-posters (Ummm, except for Mike's son right? .....since he, you know, can't post? :shifty: )

@Klaz: Darnit! I've been waiting...I get my allotted slot in the line right? E.g. before them?
Also, no, I haven't harvested any farms outside of SpawnTown except for izak's. And I always replant.

(Jeez, way to make it seem like I have a wool fetish or something.)

P.S. @Reck/Claus: I'm pretty sure that things like dropped items and flora/fauna growth are only registered by the game when the chunks are loaded. That would account for the dropped items I see around the Nether in places I am 99% sure haven't been visited in a long while. An example would be the Nether path right outside me/Fishy's old Desert Temple - I'd find Netherrack there often that I'm sure was mine. But I just hadn't been to the Nether around there in a while, thus the chunks weren't loaded and the items didn't despawn, etc. I believe it works the same for flora/fauna growth, so just be sure to try and ask around when you see who was on RIGHT BEFORE Reck/Grimm. If that person wasn't in Vineland it could've been the one before them, so on and so forth...

I disagree with Wither Skulls being used as prizes.

Nether Fortresses and by extension Wither Skeletons are common enough that we should be using them as the test to see whether people are skilled enough to deserve to create a Wither. Honestly, the best way to discourage it is to make it take actually work to complete. I feel like people who really want Beacons will go through the Hunt for some Wither Skeletons. IMO we don't want just anybody who can beat a Maze able to create them. Things are dangerous...

All that being said, prizes for Reck's maze should be non-1.4 until the Bukkit actually comes out, since it looks like we'll be waiting for it to update the server.

If what I read last night about Villagers and Villager Eggs is true, they will not spawn the shitty Green Villager - you'll get a random Farmer/Priest/Blacksmith like you would in a regularly-spawned Village. That being said, I'm not sure if they would despawn like tamed animals if you left their chunk. I'll look into it...if they stay that would definitely be a good, clean way to "create" a Village in a target location, so that prize would probably be very useful to Rhinox.

I'd have no idea what to do with them, besides lock them up in a Haunted House-type building and wait for them to be infected for massive amounts of fun, but I'd love some Villager Eggs.

Great idea for a prize IMO.

Even if they're Zombies instead...hey! That's not really a destructive prank, right?
Possible Iron drops and almost-guaranteed Rotten Flesh profit! Hooray!

Also if those "cosmetic changes" that Grimm was doing were what Klaz and I bore witness to the other night, the Glass Maze in Vineland is definitely operable.
Not sure if the changes that we saw were reversed or if he made others, though. Always a possibility.

I believe they would eventually despawn, because they're Monsters.
Villagers however...I'm still unsure about. Especially egg-spawned ones.

I prefer Villagers... :P

Maestro stamp of approval. Xalxe - can your server update to 1.4/a snapshot just for shits so we can do this ASAP? :D

Wooooo! Totally /ing in for Minotaur later this weekend.
So sad I missed it...but my show went really well...thanks for asking. <3

@Klaz: I really hope it goes this well on the 30th, I hope you enjoy it.

Who's online now?

P.S. I use MagicLauncher religiously now so I haven't even updated to 1.4.
I'll get the right .jar for Xalxe's server though, when I need to.

Is there not a way to find out who it is?

I'm almost positive there's a Bukkit plugin for this type of thing, but installing it would probably be too much work for Claus/izak/Xalxe and it would ruin the community, etc. etc.

Well you know I am...because I'm currently talking to you and Klaz on-server. Guys, I'm in an SSP world in 1.4 experimenting with Command Blocks and the new SuperFlat world options that everybody seems to have overlooked. I love them both. I'm currently working on a map (that will take awhile) that is based off of Klazam's Honeyopolis Gauntlet. It'll be fun...

I'm making a Redstone-backed "Town" on my own server which will feature actual Mafia in Minecraft, so...yes?

Also:

Xalxe needs to get connected textures. It's not that hard to go grab HD B4 and you'll stop get that little annoying reminder whenever you log on.
Mist needs to get a new texture pack altogether. Especially because new parts of the Gauntlet on my server will reeeaaally piss her off if she doesn't.

...aaaaaand you all need to switch over to Traditional Beauty (64x64), which hasn't yet been updated to 1.4, unfortunately.

In post 0, Maestro wrote:Minecraft is a wonderful little indie game by Notch (Markus Persson), where you build shelter and seek various minerals (especially diamonds) while fending off monsters that emerge from darkness.

Or something like that! It sure looks nice though. You should buy a copy!

If you want to play with the rest of us cool people, all you have to do is hit that multiplayer button, then connect to mafiascum.maruchanserver.com or 178.32.55.73:25565

You'll then be dropped somewhere on this lovely little map here

mafiascum.maruchanserver.com:8123

Should be
mafiascum.maruchanserver.com:8321
for those with problems.

:D

I am building them all across the Server, FYI. They will be used in the next installment of the "Find the Block" Contest.
I currently have 7 planned, with a possible 3 more "if-I-feel-like-it" ones. Not all will be in Swamps. Not all will be above-ground.

I was actually Wither Skeleton hunting earlier today.
No Skulls yet, and I lost a ton of enchanted stuff by afking once (and getting killed by a Blaze) but I'm fine and the Nether is fine for me.

I'm going to suggest to him that one go in Honeyopolis...while the other will either go underneath Spawntown or to the highest bidder.

Damn, Maru really wants them Skulls. I'd accept that bid and move on Klaz, I don't know if anybody else will go higher than that.

@Klaz: In my professional opinion as your business partner, at this point Slime Balls should be considerably less rare even then Coal, especially considering where Honeyopolis is located...have you looked at the Swamp around the city? I know you can't hear it, but the sound of the Slimes out there almost drives me crazy.

Pet Slimes in Honeyopolis?

I don't think it'd be a problem. I actually think it'd be hilarious. The huge ones (if they ever spawn within city limits) might pose a threat to Moneybags or countblack, but we'd take care of them right away and profit from Slimeballs. Literally the worst they could do if they spawned within the city is probably trample the crops.

(10 points to whoever knows where this is)

Basically, there will be two bases: one in Honeyopolis, one in Spawntown. The goal is to snatch the flag from one base and take it back to yours. All the chests on the map have been removed, so you'll only have what I give you. There's redstone and command blocks to tell you when the flags have been taken, returned and when the game is won.

It should be ready real soon, I just have to convert the Honeyopolis beacon into the Base, decide on items and then build a spawn building and randomzier. I'll be looking for beta testers soon, watch this thread!

Why is everything you do amazing?

Still to do:
- Build spawn area
- Decide starting items
- Figure out precisely what to do with the Plantation.

Cool, but you should check out the REAL Beacon base now...
The pyramid was changed to Gold. Looks beautiful in Coterie Craft.

In post 8447, Chevre wrote:Maestro, the Mo Creatures I'm thinking of doesn't actually put any more mobs in, it just adds a variety of skins for the current mobs so they don't all look alike.

The one I'm talking about adds something like 50 more Mobs, which makes the game one huge entity-fest that eats up CPU and gets really annoying after awhile since most of them have no special purpose except to over-populate the world, at least IMO.

That "Redstone Confessional" is in Honeyopolis, and it's part of the Redstone Church - built by Klazam.
@Xalxe: You should've waited to visit, the expansion is fully underway and I implemented a new farm design that I love.
Klazam and jmj also moved all of our animals into vertically-stacked passive Mob farms. Fun!

" Building Contest!

Image

Wanna show the server that beautiful Christmas Nativity Scene you had planned in your SSP world?
Eager to build that massive solid-wood Dreidel you've always wanted but need an extra excuse?
How about that Christmas Tree House of your dreams?! Or a maze in the shape of a Menorah?!?

Everything is within limits for Maestro's December Holiday-themed Building Contest! Entries will be judged on January 1st, 2013 (or whenever I have time shortly after that) but I will be enlisting OP assistance to check CoreProtect logs and make sure you ever-eager beavers aren't building after the deadline. I will announce the winner, a second-place finisher, and a third-place finisher, and each will receive the prizes listed at the bottom of this page. Please PM me with any questions, comments, or concerns, but here's hoping we can get the whole server in the Holiday Spirit!

Entries must be no larger than 50x50x50 Blocks and must be themed for any of the following Holiday(s):
Advent/Christmas Eve/Christmas, Chanukah/Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, Boxing Day, Omisoka/New Year's Eve

Spoiler: Grand Prize:
1 Beacon Block, 3 Diamond Blocks, 1 Emerald Block, 6 Cakes, 32 Red Wool, 32 Lime Green Wool, 64 Spruce Saplings

Spoiler: Second Place:
1 Diamond Block, 6 Cakes, 32 Red Wool, 32 Lime Green Wool, 64 Spruce Saplings

Spoiler: Third Place:
6 Cakes, 32 Red Wool, 32 Lime Green Wool, 64 Spruce Saplings

OP's are encouraged to participate but they must notify me of any OP sorcery they use while constructing their submissions - OP sorcery will not disqualify them but it will be heavily taken into account when judging all submissions. Also, in the case of Apocalypse/Ragnarok/etc. actually occurring on December 21st as some expect, Xalxe will win. Also yes, Apocalypse/Ragnarok/etc. is an acceptable secondary-motif this December - but don't make it the focus of your submission.

@Xalxe: You were good till you started turning this into the very bitchfest that you said would not transpire. Obviously we can't be too happy about either of you when we see the "/enchants" in your logs, but I honestly care more that at this point a private matter is being made public for the sake of drama. (See below about OP's and shit.)

@Maru: While I respect you confessing to us yourself, I'm guessing there was already a confrontation between you and Xalxe and that he threatened action even if you didn't out yourself, so it's not entirely honorable and it seems like you're purposefully putting this issue in the open to fuel drama when really it should be an OP debate.

I will not take sides, and I will say (as I said on-server) that in my opinion the quality of an OP is not in whether they abuse or do not abuse whatever powers they are given. It is in how they help the server and how they interact with the users. I am more frustrated that the OP's lie about being "true vanilla" or whatever-our-server-is-supposed-to-be, while using cheaty OP commands behind the backs of the users. If you're testing something, be up front about it - especially to your fellow OP's. I'm sure if you'd just posted in-thread about a test of permission on the server it would've resolved at least that one issue a whole lot more peaceably. And isn't the thread for communication between members? Some of us use flying, and gamemoding, and X-Rays in SSP, but I've never even thought about leaving Elian's Detector Mod on when I log onto the server. Just be up front about things, or resist the temptation. If you're going to be an OP who spams commands...then at least don't pretend to be like the rest of us.

P-Edit @Chevre: I don't really understand the need for any more OP's. I would love to volunteer but 1) They'd never have me. 2) Apparently being an OP requires less than 10 hours of on-time a week, and sue me if I like the server that much. 3) I have always felt (ever since Xalxe implied as much) that 2 OP's is enough. 4) izak and Xalxe (and Maru, for that matter) were quite attentive to the needs of our server and that is why I feel they can and should remain our OP's, regardless of cheating.

In other words, I would like to second Chevre's request to have Maru remain if he can promise us that the abuses will stop, because like I said, that's not even a big deal to me. Who made sure the server got updated as soon as Bukkit went into 1.4.2 Dev Builds? Maru. Who is
PAYING
for the server to continue in operation? Maru. Yes, I realize it's not much but still. It's money, and how many of us can say we would be willing to do that all the time? I love the server, but I have my own needs and I only get paid so much, especially when I'm in theatrical productions. It's great to just know that it'll be taken care of. That's what I mean when I think about how an OP interacts with the server and the people. Chevre's right, we have a great community.

Spoiler: tl:dr
My
MAIN POINT
, I guess, is that this could've just been a simple...

"promise not to do it again"
"ok, sorry"
"cool, done"

...but instead people are picking sides and making drama and it's not cool.
Also, I hereby submit my application for OPhood. That is all.

In post 8652, Klazam wrote:Honestly i see too many people jumping at the chance to be op

I don't think too many people should have that power.

It is EASY to abuse.

I'm on all the time, Im sure i would make a great op, and by that virtue, I believe that disqualifies me. those who aspire to positions of power usually should not have positions of power.

I know for a fact that my own request was a joke for the sake of a lighter atmosphere.
I disagree with the last line though. If there's no aspiration there is no accomplishment.

That's another personal motto; it's higher up than my Minecraft motto: "you can always have more".

On a side note, Klazam has stepped down as Mayor of Honeyopolis. He will remain within the city's inner circle, but is now based elsewhere, and has therefore handed over the position to me. From now on his official title (with regards to Honeyopolis leadership) will be "Mayor-Emeritus". This leadership change will bring no obvious changes, especially to those outside of city jurisdiction.

EDIT: Actually, as a beginning to my career, and after deliberation with the Mayor-Emeritus, I hereby decree that there is to be no more underground mining or Nether Portal use within the city limits. This is due to the large amount of underground real estate in use already, most of which is unsafe and/or for private use only. Please respect this edict when living in
or visiting
the City of Honeyopolis. Thank you, and have a great day!

It's not. The 3 pre-/in's I anticipated were you, Xalxe, and Klazam, if you want them.
Anybody else? WOTC is accepted and shit, Special Mechanic will be explained if desired.

Pre-game, along with alignments and specific roles, a random Biome will be designated as the starting point for the game. The Biome and one or two specific changes it implements will be included in the "Sunrise Report".

Spoiler: Biomes
There are 6 possibilities for the Biome in which the game takes place in any given Day phase, and this may change every Night or it may never change. The possible Biomes are Forest, Desert, Tundra, Ocean, Extreme Hills, and a sixth secret Biome. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, which may or may not be obvious given knowledge of thematic material. Basic differences between Biomes include 1) resources available to players for gathering, 2) which Town- and Scum-aligned Power Roles' abilities are active, and 3) NightKill and VoteCount flavoring.

Players may post three times per Day phase in-thread in the format
GATHER: Resource
to attempt to gather a predetermined amount of a specific resource, if it is available within the current Biome. The resource-gathering comes into play when Night falls as well, when players will be sent a "Sunset Report" telling them which resources (if any) they chose to gather the previous Day phase are useful and which are not. Not much else will be explained WRT this mechanic, as it is extremely important to the gameplay.

Any other questions?

The pre-/ins I accepted were Xalxe (who PMed me as soon as the post went up in the Micro Queue), izak (first person to pre-/in in this thread), Klazam (previously discussed participation with me), and Hiraki (second person to officially pre-/in in this thread). Hoopla has confirmed I may only have 4 pre-/ins, so PM me with "Minecraft Mafia Sign-Ups" in the subject line if you want to be notified when the game actually begins sign-ups in the Micro Queue. Thanks guys!

P.S. @Claus/OP's: would it be alright for the winning team (and their amazing Mod) to get an on-server prize after the game is completed?

@Klaz: I think we figured out that "/home bed" is a function of Essentials or Bukkit itself. I do wish to keep it though.

Idea. Rhinox might be interested to read this. Would it be too time consuming/anticommunity to use the current world files to set up a second "clone" server that would be strictly Vanilla Minecraft? No warps, no tp's, just the world as it is right now...? I'm just thinking about who would play on that vs. the one we have now, and it's worrisome to think that we'd then pretty much be splitting the community, but I just thought it would be a good idea to ask about input.

Understood guys, I myself had qualms with that idea, I just saw it as a possible solution.

But maybe we could have a second server that starts fresh...? People could play on either one however they wish. That sounds like a fantastic idea.

@Hiraki: I'm pretty sure that's not what Rhinox said at all. He specifically said he wants to play how he wants to play, but doesn't mind if others play how they want to play.

@izak: I really don't see it as splitting the community, I see it as reopening the community. A fresh server might invite some of the more Vanilla-esque players back out of the woodwork, and personally I know I would play on both servers with no problem. If others do or don't want to, I would have no problem with it, but I just see it as an extra option rather then a schism.

I can personally say that I will not play TerraFirmaCraft if it is put up as a companion server...I believe that TFC is excessively complex to the point of no longer being a fun game and I believe there are others who agree with me.

Meanwhile, there seem to be enough people that want a Vanilla server that it would be a good investment of community time, etc. and I still disagree that it would split the community. Many people don't play on the server that often as it is, and if those people would play if the server was Vanilla then the new server would be nothing but a good thing for them since it would literally draw them back into the community.

We're already "split" on the basis of many players' long inactivity and preference for a non-Bukkit environment; why isn't offering a second, possibly-more-appealing option seen as something that can bring more people into the fold?

@Rhinox: I understand that you don't want to force others to play by your preference - that's what I was trying to get across. I wasn't trying to imply that you would go play by yourself rather than play with warps/tp's, etc. I was just trying to say that you have a preferred way of playing and the current system of warps/tp's does not seem to accomodate/encourage your preferred way of playing, by your own admission.

Depending on interest possiblees:
VOTE: Tropicraft
VOTE: Twilight Forest
Mo' Creatures

VOTE: AtomicStryker's Battle Towers
VOTE: InfiCraft

All of these are fantastic ideas, IMO, since the additions of the Mods are either ore/tool related, or dimension-related.

This means that people can either choose not to use the new Ores/Tools or they can choose not to use the new Dimensions. I myself already have Tropicraft after your previous suggestion, and I love it. The Twilight makes another amazing addition in the form of what looks like a fascinating new Dimension to explore, while the Battle Towers seem to be a fun and exciting new challenge in the Overworld. Inficraft's new stones, ores, and tools look fascinating - especially the new Bricks (OBSIDIAN BRICK OMG GIMME) - so I'd sign off on all of those I just mentioned plus Metallurgy and ExtremeBiomesXL. That list looks like the makings of an excellent Modded server BUT for Christ's Sake...there's bound to be some conflicts between those Mods.

If not, go all out.

Except for Mo' Creatures. I can and always will be of the opinion that that Mod overpopulates the world.
If there is a way to pick and choose what animals to add then fine, but I would prefer that one be left out.

Have you considered Thaumcraft and have these Mods (particularly the structure generation ones) been checked for conflicts?
I can do that now client-side, if you'd like.

P-Edit @Maru also: regardless of when it will be connected to the domain name, do we have the actual server running yet? Same IP?

I also didn't know it was updated to 1.4.5 - when did that happen? Permanent thing? Because Klaz...it's time to "wait".

i guess if everyone pmed me coords of what they want kept i could just delete all the chunks not pmed to me with worldedit. i think.. idk how chunk deletion goes to well.

This actually sounds like a really cool idea - we could then have mini-explored areas around the player-built structures with the rest being ungenerated wilderness. And as we explore we could as Rhinox suggests and transportation the shit out of the brand new map. I am so for this idea it's not even funny.

@Claus: you've found the temporary server map that Maru has up.
The spawnpoint structure and the voidhole were mine. The signs warned you!
