I'm torn on it too. It's a really weird and potentially gamebreaking claim if true but it makes sense in light of his comments in the early game about this game being bastardly.

Saulres, I explained why I kept voting in #250. Couldn't continuously keep the pressure up throughout the game because I had to go V/LA, hence the obnoxious catch up post. Not sure about the director which is why I'm waiting on the meta research conclusions; his reads are terrible and tonally he comes across as overblown but given his recent join date, he could just be new and uh...not very good at mafia.

The reason I want a read on the Xalxe/the director slot from you is because you're the only non-alignment-confirmed player who hasn't given their read on our cell. If our cell mislynches, I think it will be very valuable for Tierce and the cell 2 townies to be able to draw conclusions based on associative tells. So unless any of the confirmed townies disagree, please give your pick for the scum in our cell.

Empire is hardly helpless, and apparently does meta research himself. This refusal to actually

do something

himself when he

has

been online--yeah, it doesn't give me good vibes about Empire at all. As far as I'm aware, he is uncomfortable playing scum and has issues producing results. This matches his behavior here so far; I think that post 250 was very forced and an attempt to show work that doesn't actually fit his Town play.

So, I think we can all agree on two things:

1) The idea is incredibly awesome.
2) The execution was incredibly the opposite.

So many things went wrong with this setup and its modding that I can only try to remember them all here.

*I wasn't actually sure if this game was Town-sided with the mechanic - leaning toward no - and then the role assignment dropped a hippo on the Town side of the seesaw of balance and catapulted the scum into orbit. Nobody Special was a fair catch, Xalxe did what he's most famous for, and Empire was left holding the bag. I think that even though three scum in a Micro is ludicrous on its face, this Town could have won it without the process-of-elimination factor brought in by Rarefaction. Getting Tarhalindur and Puppybearer in the same cell didn't help at all.

*The game should have been labeled bastard. All the warnings I gave between Konowa's role and the ominous rule in the first post and the conspicuous lack of the traditional mood music at the start of the game probably were not enough to justify what happened. In case you're wondering, the reason I didn't tell anyone what precisely was going to happen was because I thought that having the scum

prepare

for it would destroy any Town advantage that could be gained from it - it was intended as a "snapshot in time" sort of thing.

*Following the above, nobody on the review team considered fakeclaims. When Nobody Special claimed, I etc. I'd like to personally apologize to NS for that rug pull.

*I tried to change how I do my vote counts in order to appease the people who basically don't like them a little. I think I made them worse. The fact that we had such wildly varying name lengths in this game (F-16_Fighting_Falcon is about as long by picas as Tierce (L-4) ~ Empire ) certainly didn't help, but etc.

*It's taken years to get this far, but I'm running out of time and motivation to put in YouTube links in each vote count. Repeating from previous games is so lame, and in this game in particular I was coming up empty on "how can I vaguely describe what's going on AND find apropos mood music" most of the time.

*I tried to go for putting vote counts on the tops of pages instead of the usual fixed-time-per-day bit I usually go with. That most decisively did not work, especially since it screwed up my rhythm for checking on prods.

*I forgot that Mafia was orange in this game since I wanted to distinguish the Tarhalindur role. You all know it's coming; but people always immediately ask "the role is red, does that mean Mafia?" even though I kind of clearly say it's Town farther down. :/

So, overall I'd rate this game a failure for reasons within and beyond my control. I'd like to apologize to everyone for its shortcomings.

But, the idea's still a good one, and I have an Open version of this setup and mechanic coming to a Micro queue near you. I'm going on V/LA all of next week, but after that we can take another stab at this mechanic - we'll see how gameplay changes when everyone knows this mechanic is coming.

Thanks for modding, Vi. Thanks to everyone for putting up with me~ It's good to know my reads were great once we got into Rarefaction and I could cross out most associative tells pairings. Some of those Towntells were pretty spectacular, people need to spot such things more often.

Town played well and it is a very deserved win (if I say so myself ), but admittedly, the scum weren't stellar.
