because within a series that captivated the attention of millions of children, bringing them into an era where reading books was actually the cool thing to do (besides stuff like speak and twilight), he's by far the most relatable character and also deals with the struggles of keeping friendships strong, fighting against goliath-sized evils with close to no hope and thriving despite familial issues and complete doubts in a giant, vivid fantasy world.
