What is wrong with you? Be nice, man. Or if you aren't, at least pretend.Surrender, imagine and of course wear something nice.-

or, apparently, anyone. Please let some things go...
I actually enjoyed the episode. Although I did feel it was a lot of wasted opportunities. Shirley and Annies plot could have been built upon and have more laughs, Jeffs as well, I reckon if they focused on the Hunger Games more it would have been up there with the best (with maybe more study group members entering). It did feel with all bar Abeds storyline that it was like "this is what this character is doing this week" - moving on...
It felt very much like the writers had a point to prove with this episode and they handled it head on, and therefore very poorly. Abeds storyline grew irritating fast and the whole cartoon segment seemed to be put in there just for the kookiness value. I felt the writers tried to hard this episode and conversely failed to make a good impact, it also felt it lost some of that Community feel, like Shirley deciding to do a prank with Annie. Usually there would be a reason behind it, more than "just cuz" there were a few instances of that which I think is what was truly wrong and could be the potentially most worrying sign about the change.
That said, I did enjoy the episode and whilst I only laughed a couple of times (and really they could have just cut Pierce out of the episode - once again he detracted from the viewing experience) I was smiling throughout. It could have been a lot worse. I'd be hard pushed to say this was even close to my favourite episodes but I would definitely not put it anywhere near the bottom. (Try the goddamn awful Abed hiring celebrity impersonators episode)
In other news, I keep wondering if some of this storyline changed later on. Like why was Pierce different in some of those Abed scenes? Im wondering if there was some quick editing to make it seem like a joke when it was actually a rewrite after he left. I mean even for Community Pierce had basically nothing at all to do that episode.Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.-

I liked the episode, but that probably has more to do with being without a new episode in so long. I felt that the episode would have been much better if it was more focused on one or two subplots. All of them felt shallow and not fully fleshed out. I would have loved to see more of Annie/Shirley or Jeff, and less or none of Abed or Britta and Troy subplots.-

see, in S1 he had power, but he wasn't treated as a proper villain.
when you have a despicable character, you need to either make him a villain, or make him harmless
in S2 they made him harmless, in S3 they made him a villain. S1 had him in a position of direct power over the study group, which didn't work.I'll explain it to you. You have to get someone else to understand it for you.-

I actually thought the episode was OK. Maybe on the lower end of Community episodes, but not god-awful. The whole Abed TV sitcom thing was a great meta joke to kick off the episode, but nothing more than that. I really wish that they went all-in on the Hunger Dean's idea, because I think it had a lot of potential. Instead we got a mish-mash of unsubstantial plot lines that are only funny in the shallowest of senses. Hopefully it will get better in the future, but regardless, I'm still glad that Community's back.ShowTotal: 17/15/1

That just if you see him as a villain. I liked him much more when he wasn't quite so antagonistic.-

I felt like it started slow, but as it went along it got a lot better. Definitely better than the previous episode, but I don't think it's one of the best Community episodes.ShowTotal: 17/15/1
