SV was competitive with BM pre-patch (slightly behind at the highest levels, slightly ahead at all levels below that) and just got buffed pretty hard (Explosive Shot is your bread-and-butter skill, especially with Lock and Load, and Black Arrow is similar) compared to BM. Those numbers are janky as fuck.-

Should always keep in mind that what the top guilds do isn't always telling in the way you want it to. Its a completely different raid environment to what you'll experience, and in no way telling of a class being "dead". Nixing is probably a bad word to use there too, since most of the top 10 guilds run 2/3 full clears of everything a week with alts.
Moral of the story: A class not being used for high-tier progression isn't telling of anything beyond "someone can do something better than you". 80% of that isn't dps related. Utility generally means more than dps output for world firsts, and utility is something mages have generally never had.
Moral of the moral of the story: Your panties are in a wad. Should consider untwistingDefined by who I dislike, not who I like~-

If I had to throw out a complete guess I'd say it's probably something like 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, oooh a proc, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1"Awesome Proton Pack, Flay!" - Petroleumjelly

Raiding isn't nearly as difficult as you'd think. I bitch a lot in this thread about OMG DPS NERFS but most guilds aren't hardcore "RAID FIRST!" raiding guilds, and as long as you're hitting some easily attainable minimum DPS mark, the only hurdle is learning the fights. Most of which come down to: DPS the boss, kill the adds, and don't stand in shit. Anything more complicated is usually not on the DPS to figure out, but on the tanks to manage aggro for the fights.green shirt thursdays-

Raiding can be hell of fun with the right group of people. You do get the occasional "OMG U SUCK" types of course but if you find a guild with people at roughly your level of ability, commitment, etc then it can be one of the most fun co-op experiences in gaming in my opinion. There's honestly nothing quite like the feeling of finally beating something which seemed near-impossible for weeks and weeks - it's not that you've personally achieved it, it's that it's come from the group working together as a whole.
I've been in both super casual social guilds who only raid occasionally and the properly hardcore progression world top 50 type guilds and they've both been fun for as long as I've been in the same mindset as the other members. I'd certainly recommend giving it a try but I'd also say take your time thinking about what you personally would want to put into it and researching guilds which offer something similar to that. WoW has a lot of faults, for sure, but the feeling of camaraderie you get from raiding is completely unparalleled - I'd recommend that anyone enjoying the game give it a try at least once.
Dammit, I seem to be convincing myself to go back even though I don't have the time or the money"Awesome Proton Pack, Flay!" - Petroleumjelly
