I've actually been curious about this for a while...
If something happens with regards to a player who is nominated such as the recent snafu with Scummies /in-vitational (the game itself) does that bar it from review? For example, if a person was nommed for Paragon but got banned for 3 months would that prohibit them from winning? Or would it be a psychological thing and just prejudice the judges?

I imagine a permabanned player would be unlikely to receive an award, but lesser bans shouldn't really affect the judges other than the person may have had less time to do a good job.

I assume the fact that Reck and I got banned for our flavor makes it unlikely that our flavor will be considered in the "most enjoyable game" judging, but I don't know why it would get removed from any category.

if the permabanned player truly had the best performance out of all of the other nominees, I think it would be unfair to not award it to him. Anyone else would wouldn't have earned it.

A permaban is pretty much stating "what you're doing here is not welcome" while awarding somebody something is directly praising what they're doing.
MS couldn't possibly be more self-contradictory than to give a Scummy award to someone who's already been permabanned from the site.

I understand I'm in the minority but if I won by DQ because the player who deserved it was site banned (not that I would ever be nominated) I would not feel right about my award. I'd probably refuse it.

For games like Newbie 1347, where she maintained a page-topping VC, timely thread opening/closing and lynch/NK flips, deadlines never missed, and kept the lonely dead company when some of the dead players forgot the QT existed.

Nominate Nuwen for Best Third-Party Performance for her play in The Reckoning II: Invitational

She was a lone Serial Killer with a one-shot bulletproofness in a town of 16 players, packed to the brim with power roles and mechanics that could easily screw her over. She managed to work together with the town to lynch the scum back to back to back, meanwhile killing off even the slightest threats, landing her in a three person LYLO where both of the other two players thought it HAD to be the other, and that there was NO WAY Nuwen would be the scum/SK/whatever. There was certainly a lot of lurking in this game, but I think Nuwen played around it beautifully. Take into account the fact that one day, a mechanic made the town vote on who was more town: Nuwen, or the player who actually instigated the mechanic. Winner got a bulletproof vest, and guess what? The town UNANIMOUSLY chose Nuwen to win it.

I don't know if I need to give much reason because it'll likely be one of the major survivors of 2013, but I feel it stands out because it was a very good-natured game. The game happened incredibly smoothly, and there were few if not no serious scuffles between moderator and player or player to player. On a more game-related note, it was very twisty-turny not only in its structure but the travels of the players (threats knocked out all over the place, the eventual winner being in peril many times, flips and what have you). Just generally good overall.

Actually that's exactly the policy when the hydra is for modding. Player hydrae get the award for an individual game, because it was about that game. Player alts are not generally public so the alt gets the award.
