I posted it a few pages back. But no harm posting it again. It was RL BV. Monday at my LGS alternates between legacy and modern.

4x lord of atlantis
4x master of the pearl trident
4x merrow reejery
4x silvergil adept
4x cursecatcher
2x phantasmal image

4x aether vial
4x mana leak
3x vapor snag
2x spell pierce
3x spreading seas
2x cryptic command

14 island
4 mutavault
2 tectonic edge

I've been liking pierce less and less in the main though. Been toying around with 2 Kira in that slot.

Words of War: When you're on your upkeep and have donated 4-5 permanents elsewhere, you convert the draws into shocks. 5 triggers on upkeep = 10 damage to someone's face or 5 Shocks to point at creatures, and you don't miss your own land drops.

Illusions/Delusions - Donate to your opponent, laugh while they try to pay the cumulative upkeep costs or take 10/20 damage to the face

Thought Lash - same deal. They either exile cards slowly, or they instantly deck themselves and die on that upkeep. Extra points are awarded if you can hit them with a Mindslaver to force them not to pay the Upkeep trigger

Pyromancer's Swath - Unless they're playing heavy burn or have a bunch of card draw, you've stripped their hand, and left them with a shitty effect to try and get value from

Steel Golem - Now they can't cast creature spells until they find either a sac outlet or a kill spell

Transcendence - In EDH, where you start at 40, this is usually a one-shot kill. Land the Transcendence, donate it to them, they lose unless they find a "destroy target enchantment" spell.

Celestial Dawn (one i forgot) - Due to the rules of EDH, if they don't have a White commander, they can't produce white mana. This locks every non-white player out of casting anything other than pure colourless spells.

So I really want to take Kaufmann's Gruul Deck to Game Day but I also don't think I wanna spend $40+ on Reckoners. Anyone have ideas?

Was thinking either Pyreheart Wolf (add in 2 Lightning Mauler over 2 other creatures or something?), Ash Zealot (might as well be a 3-drop with BTEs in the 2-drop slot), or splashing black for Dreg Manglers (and maybe Exava, or Dreadbores/Abrupt Decays if I can afford them). Or maybe running non-creatures (Gruul War Chant? seems iffy. Armed/Dangerous, Rancor? too much instant speed removal, bleh. Brimstone Volley, Fling, other burn? maybe.) but meh.

I was going to just run a cheap Jund aggro with Spike Jesters+Zealots over BTE in the 2-drop slot but the manabase seemed kinda greedy... dunno.

That deck is just:

-1 Hellrider
+1 Pyrewild Shaman

- 4 Lightning Mauler
+3 Pillar of Flame

At least from what I can tell. I know I'm missing something somewhere. Pyreheart Wolf is okay as a replacement for Boros Reckoner, that's what I used in my RDW originally.

Pretty much. Except I'm pretty sure Fate is not running 5 Hellrider LEARN TO MATH.

I'm guessing Mauler > Striker if I'm running Wolves, plus it allows for turn2 LM-BTE shenanigans.

Alternatively I can just take Mono-Black Control (with extra Vampires) but meh.

I would be shocked if you showed up at the event missing just a couple reckoners and not be able to find some to borrow. I've walked into my store missing an entire mana base and gotten there.

I added a land too, because 21 lands with 3 hellriders is mathematically correct. 4 hellriders on 20 land is just asking to be punished.

Lightning maulers are definitely worth it. If you can't run reckoners you're going to have to run a lot more burn in the SB for aggro MUs. Mortars, elecktrickery the whole shebang.

Pyreheart wolf is still a good card. He's no reckoner on defense but he can still chump block and come back, and he dumps advent of the wurm. I'm gonna be fitting him into my SB against rites decks and flash decks.

I would be more cool with this change if Jitte wasn't a card. The fact that Jitte no longer removes Jitte is going to make some match ups incredibly dumb.

i kinda liked that you could use legendary creatures as the most specific removal spell ever in a mirror match since it generally helps whoever played it second stabilize and made it harder to race mirrors but being able to replace your own legendary is also pretty cool and probably makes more sense.

much cooler is the new sideboard rules which are super cool and make it so theres a chance of actually seeing non 60-card decks (that also aren't battle of wits decks) since you can have an extra card or two as one-ofs for search cards and take out all the cards you don't need for later games.

MEH. Jace is a problem, even bigger a problem, in legacy control mirrors now with this rule change.

I liked the way it worked in the past.

BUT

EDH is awesomer now. No more using clone effects to kill generals. muahaha.

A) Jitte really isnt that big a deal.

B) So we've finally reached the point where magic has been dumbed down enough that we're making rule changes with the idea of enriching a shitty durly offshoot variant? Eff that.

^. Other than GST getting a bit better and Thrun/Sigarda getting even sillier in Modern, I can't imagine this is going to break anything horribly.

That said, Mox Opals can now be used as Lotus Petals if you have more than one, so that's got some breaking potential.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Now I won't get to ever make my favorite play again:
- Fate casts Ruric Thar, the Unbowed
- I'm at 5 life
- "HAHA CAN'T REMOVE IT, GG"
- Play Clone

Oh well, this is PROBABLY a good thing for the game, honestly.

Is "first Jace wins" a possible reason for this? The second player having to use theirs as a Dreadbore instead of being able to mini-FoF/Brainstorm/whatever seems like a huge tempo hit, and I could see Wizards not wanting this to happen, at least for Planeswalkers.

As far as actual legends? Hmm, still not a big fan.

I don't mind not blowing up your own legend, but being able to kill legends with copies was supposed to be part of the balance for those cards. Legends jab always been wonky, though.

The sideboard Chang is interesting. I don't know how relevant it'll be, since you're always better off mathematically with sixty main, but this could open up some strategy for the few corner cases.
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.
