No, they did not get 72 hours remaining. They didn't even get 24. They had 6. Plenty of time for the Internet to be flooded with panic. Not enough to stage an evacuation. In the end, though, it was inevitable.

Policy change

A slew of new policies were announced in Chesstopia today, some were popular, some where not. In particular the outlawing of condoms was condemned as unduly interfering in the lives of people for some nebulous government gain. Birthrates are expected to increase, but for a large part within families that can't support the children well. On the other hand, the workers in the mining industry, a significant part of the total population of Chesstopia, are happy with the new government regulation for lethal incidents.

Increased taxrate in Chesstopia decreases government approval by 5 and increases expected income by ~500M/season.
Other policy changes decrease approval by 7 and economy by 10, birthrate is expected to increase.
