You dance with the girl that brought you, but you don't owe her the entire night. It was inevitable that someone would lose interest in this thing they have been doing for four years, especially after last season.

Too bad his music career is completely out of his hands and he can't change his plans as circumstances change.

It would be one thing if it was a Steve Carrell situation where the show wants to continue for a few more seasons and he wants to retire. That's leaving early because you have other plans. But it is another thing to hear "Last Dance" and go "Fuck that, I'm leaving now." right as your date reaches for your arm.

Assuming you're sticking close to your analogy, how do you know this is the last dance? There's every chance that it'll get its sixth season, especially if the ratings pick up a bit and NBC has another year of shit comedies (although fuck them for cancelling Go On).
You'd be saying the exact same thing if he gave you this year and then quit next year and it got renewed.
No, Glover doesn't owe us anything. If he's not contractually obliged to do another season then good luck to him.

Then you let them know this will be your final season and you finish it out.
He doesn't owe US anything. He owes the Community writers, producers, and other actors quite a bit.

if the new season doesn't have a scene where Abed declares the last year noncanon and pretends it never happened I'll be disappointed.

that's exactly what they said they wouldn't do
. But I guess Dan was kinda fucked with how the previous guys ended last season, so what else could he do?
immediately the first thing I thought of in the opening scene was "Better Call Saul!" - so I can see why they don't want to do Jeff going off on his own
him as a teacher was an idea I didn't like at first, but Jeff is at his funniest when he's in a position of authority over other people as opposed to being the underdog, so I like it.
I just hope they don't have the Dean keep orgasming when he sees Jeff, that was the most overused joke in S4
I'm really interested to see what Harmon does with Kevin/Chang - that concept has potential if done properly
I'll explain it to you. You have to get someone else to understand it for you.
From what I've heard from people who have seen screeners of the first two episodes "It's like an old friend coming home" and described as hilarious.
In regards to chang, and some other footage I've seen.
He's a maths teacher now, having gone to prison and come back he is now under "work arrest", which Im quite glad about because Chang was always best when he was teaching
Mostly retired. Unless you ask or it's something interesting.
the problem with Chang (and I think I've said this before) is that he needs to be set up as extremely pathetic to be likable to any degree - if he's given too much power he just gets awful because his craziness has real world consequences.

chang always has been terrible. Ken Jeong is just obnoxious most of the time in his roles, I don't find it funny, I find it cringe-worthy. Occasionally I'll maybe not feel a pit of my stomach "oh god why" feeling when he says a "joke" but overall Chang is pretty bad. I'd be fine if they just kept him as a cameo appearance mostly, like first season.
most of the time I don't like Chang, but in the few moments when I find him funny I find him HILARIOUS. Bits like the hermit crabs (WAY TO GO, IDIOTS!), the vents (Monkey stole my spoon.), and absolutely everything he did in D&D are some of my favourite Community bits.
