So apparently the throne was supposed to look like this.

I did not imagine it that elevated or asymmetrical, but the chaotic and violent nature of the throne is not captured by the HBO adaptation but really comes through in that depiction.

Yeah, but that was obviously impractical for the TV show. It's pretty accurate for how I had imagined it, though. It's supposed to be an asymmetric, horrifically misshapen mass of sharpened metal bound together by dragon fire, after all.

And that is very much not a comfortable seat. I can picture Ned's awkwardness while granting audiences on that throne.

Huh. Well that's a good way to stop people sympathising with Jaime. I don't really know what they were thinking, with that change. Although from what the director said I'm not convinced it doesn't come down to incompetence, which makes it worse.

(Pretty meh episode, the thenn actor guy is cringey and sam's scenes kind of suck)

yes. they put in all the hard work to make him sympathetic and then basically remove it all. I don't really understand the gain there.

Agreed. Suddenly Jaime is just an asshole, I don't get it.

I thought the rest of the episode was quite good; I rather like the Thenn guy, Sam's scenes were just sad (and I don't think they were poorly done, I just think he's a tough character to make interesting in a show where literally every other main character is totally badass), Danaerys' scene was fucking excellent.

"The Others can take the septons." He kissed her again, kissed her silent, kissed her until she moaned. Then he knocked the candles aside and lifted her up onto the Mother's altar, pushing up her skirts and the silken shift beneath. She pounded on his chest with feeble fists, murmuring about the risk, the danger, about their father, about the septons, about the wrath of gods. He never heard her. He undid his breeches and climbed up and pushed her bare white legs apart. One hand slid up her thigh and underneath her smallclothes. When he tore them away, he saw that her moon's blood was on her, but it made no difference.

"Hurry," she was whispering now, "quickly,

." She kissed his ear and stroked his short bristly hair. Jaime lost himself in her flesh. He could feel Cersei's heart beating in time with his own, and the wetness of blood and seed hwere they were joined.

But no sooner were they done than the queen said, "Let me up. If we are discovered like this . . ."

Yeah. I kept waiting for Cersei to give in, to show she clearly wanted it as much as him (not that that ever makes forcing somebody to have sex okay, but it would have reflected the books better), but either they weren't good at showing it, or it didn't happen.

I think that the medium of television doesn't make a scene like that easy to show the same way as the books. I think it would more likely end up looking like "Rape is ok if the person being raped eventually likes it", which is not something you want to imply.
