Planeswalker - Kiora (2UG)
Loyalty - 2
+1: prevent damage to and from target permanent opponent controls
-1: Explore
-5: Emblem, EoT spawn a 9/9 blue Kraken token

4-mana for a starting 2 loyalty seems bad (especially with Jace and Chandra at 5... this dies to bolt...), but maybe it's not as bad as I'm initially reading it? +1 does protect itself sorta, helps blank the Gods if they're online, but... I dunno, this seems like Ral Zarek levels of power. Which isn't much.

Nah this is good. 4cmc for explore+discard removal spell is fine. It also stops Blood Baron cold.

Without other backup, it's still weak to stuff like Mutavault and Pack Rat. Also doesn't stop Aetherling or Obz. It seems okay, not amazing. Explore is fine if you're expecting removal I guess, I'm just not sure if it's that great at 4 mana. I suppose if you're running UG that can be turn 3 so maybe it's better than I initially thought.

2/3 loyalty just seems really low is all.

[edit] I know three-colors is hard on manabases, but someone's gonna build BUG Superfriends. 2-3 Ashiok, 3-4 Jace, 1-2 Kiora, 1-2 Vraska. Toss in Reaper, Prognostic Sphinx, Caryatids, an Aetherling, Hero's Downfall, and all the other good BG removal (Decay, Golg-Charm, etc.) plus whatever comes in the next set... I'm expecting a Frank Lepore article once BotG drops.

Its like a slightly better Tamiyo. Not amazing but not terrible. Solid one or two of in UG control decks.

That effect is a lot weaker than tamiyos in a number of ways. This doesn't look all that good to me tbh.

The effect is slightly weaker, but makes up for it by having an actual - ability and being a mana cheaper.

I'm a fan of Kiora, but coming in at 2 is just sooooooooooo squishy. She dies to Lightning Strike, dang it. I'm still brewing either RUG, BUG, or Bant Superfriends with her/Xenagos/Jace, her/Jace/Vraska/Liliana (maybe Ashiok?) or her/Jace/Elspeth/Gideon

I'll as usual be reserving judgment until I play with the card, because we all suck at card evaluations. But, the only thing that gives me pause is the low loyalty to casting cost ratio. She has a chance to be very very good.

I'm probably going to pick up a set if she preorders at a reasonable price. I've been playing around with Reid Duke's Prime Speaker list that was running Prophet of Kruphix, and that UG Flash list that won a PTQ a few weeks back. I feel like she fits in those pretty nicely.

When has any mythic rare preordered at a reasonable price? I think even that stupid Lich Mirror preordered at something insane. And I wouldn't mind a chance to play around with the Standard Dredge deck sometime, if you're offering. How much did it cost to put together?
One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.

I was looking at it myself; it looks like a lot of fun to play, but I wasn't sure what Thoughtseizes and Tombs were going for- haven't played in a while. Pretty sure all my decks are out of date, now...

Sooo... I just made top 8 in a FNM draft for the first time. I know that's not that big of a deal, but I'm feeling like this is awesome. Plus, there were 36 people instead of the usual 28 or so, so it was a good accomplishment. It was 6 rounds, so even though we started just after 7pm we only started top 8 at 1 am. And my top 8 match was won by my opponent 2-1. I was 1 turn away from killing him with a kinda large flying Favored Hoplite, when he played a Portent of Betrayal and used my own dude to finish me off. Sadface. And I made multiple mistakes in our Game 1, so I might have been able to top 4 and get one of the Revised duals that they gave out to top 4 this week. Badlands is only worth $65. I didn't miss out on much, right? And hey I opened a Godless Shrine in one of my prize packs, so I still got some good value out of this. And I made top 8 in a draft!! It could have gone better, but I am VERY happy with how I did, even so.

Sounds like you went to Strikezone then :P

I heard they were giving out Duals to Top 4 finishes so I am trying to convince myself that the 40ish minute drive is worth it.
