I think the problem was Sperling more than Stark. I just didn't like listening to Sperling. Stark and LSV for T8 draft and Quarters was great. In post 4064, Thestatusquo wrote:I agree that his limited skills are valuable, but if you're going to put him on the team you need the other team member to be a very charismatic person. Leading to just a horrifically boring booth. If it were something like LSV, Caleb Durward and Ben S, maybe that would be sweet.jdodge1019: hasjghsalghsakljghs is from vermont

4 Sylvan Caryatid
4 Jace, Architect of Thought
4 Kiora, the Crashing Wave
2 Elspeth, Sun's Champion
1 Elixir of Immortality
4 Detention Sphere
4 Supreme Verdict
4 Sphinx's Revelation
3 Simic Charm
2 Azorius Charm
3 Dissolve
4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Breeding Pool
4 Temple Garden
3 Island
1 Plains
1 Forest
4 Temple of Plenty
4 Temple of Mystery
SB: 2 Negate
SB: 2 Gainsay
SB: 2 Jace, Memory Adept
SB: 4 Archangel of Thune
SB: 3 Unravel the AEther
SB: 2 Essence Scatter
Currently looking at trying to run this Bant Control list off the start of BNG standard. In testing, Kiora is pretty insane. It's very easy to get her to five, I think, with how much protection she offers.
Running Caryatids + Verdict is kinda awkward, but the potential for a T3 Kiora is worth it IMO. This is kind of tap out control where I want to be playing things on my turn.
It's only slightly different from UW Control, but Kiora is just good enough to warrant it. Simic Charm has been an all star... it can serve as a tempo play with the bounce, but the mode I'm most impressed with is the hexproof mode. It can save my ass more often than not. It also can hit Stormbreath Dragon and Blood Baron, which Azorius Charm cannot.green shirt thursdays-

Wow, I actually like that maindeck. It does seem a little 4-drop crowded though. Unrelated, I'd also probably end up cutting Simic Charm to 2, either making room for another one-of finisher (Aetherling, Angel of Serenity, etc.) or a single Essence Scatter in the main if you're expecting aggro, or something. Spear might even be cute, as it blanks midrangeand Aetherlingwhile boosting your Elspeth tokens a bit.
You could probably drop an Unravel from the SB since I can't think of any deck where you want all three. Also, since you're playing White, I'll suggest Revoke Existence instead since it exiles (better in the control mirror where you don't want them to draw their DSphere again with their Revs).
Gainsay is nice to bring up to 3 for the control mirror plus any remnants of MonoU that'll be played, and I assume Archangel is for... the aggro matchup? I'd feel weird about running 4 still since it does cost 5 (turn 4 with a Caryatid). 3 seems okay. I'd be tempted to run one Unflinching Courage to make Caryatid impossible to deal with for red decks, but that might just be silly. Maybe throw that one-of Aetherling in the board instead. [edit] Last Breath might also be better against aggro.
Seems solid, and I'd definitely want to test out at least 70ish of that 75.Last edited by InflatablePie on Thu Jan 30, 2014 1:18 pm, edited 1 time in total. If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know when you're being lied to?

Reck, just imo you'll want 26 or 27 lands. And you're kind of a split between tapout and instant control, so I'm not sure what the right balance is here. To me it feels like you're better off without the Sylvan Caryatid, and having your lands open for T2-T3 to protect your T4 planeswalker.
Or if you go the other route and are more relying on the T4 verdict, you've already mentioned how the Caryatids play with that. I'm not sure there's much you'd need to verdict T3 (maybe on the draw) that you can't verdict T4. And even then you've got Detention Sphere for backup on T3.
My opinions:
-4 Sylvan Caryatid
+1 Azorius Charm
+1 Aetherling

Apparently there's an ARG or, at least, "ARG-lite" going on in the Magic world right now.

3-1 at prerelease with UBw (W for Medomai and a Exorciate).
- 1BB 3/3 w/ Bestow-5, lose a life upkeep is okay. Doesn't attack through Giant Spider sadly.
- Perplexing Chimera is bad.
- Stratus Walk is bad when you have 8-9/13 fliers.
- Medomai wins games.
- I really liked the 5-mana 1/1 flier that's either +3 or Mind Control. Usually got the +3.
- Green (notably GW) was represented highly. Countering/instakilling the promo is fun, getting attacked by the smaller Staunch Hearted Warrior or 4-mana 3/3 Inspired centaur with dudes on it is not fun.
- Pulling a Hero's Downfall in your pool, and Pain Seer + Karametra + Kitty Cat Lord in prizes, probably means you make money back.If you don't know how to lie, then how do you know when you're being lied to?

Went 5-1 at my prerelease running RW aggro, went 5-0 and offered a draw/split with the other guy in the final but he rebuffed me and then he beat me game 1 and my lands beat me game 2. Luckily my tiebreakers were high enough to keep me in second and scored me 24 packs. Got a 2HG prerelease with my brother tomorrow.-

3-1 in the morning 1v1 with RU tempo. Best Cards: Nimbus Naiad, Oracle's Insight, Nyxborn Triton
2-2 in the afternoon 2HG with G, splash Xenagos. Best Cards: Xenagos, Arbor Colossus, Reverent Hunter
Things learned from the two tourneys: The red promo is probably the best promo. Infinite 3-drops is awesome, especially if over half of them can bestow later. Mana bases can hate you even if you're running one color or one-color with a light splash. 2HG is hard. Agent of the Fates is hard to beat in an infinite bestow deck.

So, Bitterblossom and Wild Nacatl coming off the ban list, Deathrite Shaman going on. Not sire if that's a net positive. One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly. The charlies were forced to not only surrender the skirmish, but also their world-famous chili recipe, which Sudo sold to Texas for a hefty profit. Sudo is a master of diplomacy.-

I agree with this, but was trying to work with putting Kiora in 'cause he wanted Kiora in it looked like.In post 4091, Thestatusquo wrote:4 Jace 4 Kiora seems just completely wrong.

Deathrite Shaman probably should be banned, being basically a 1 mana planeswalkers, and Wild Nacatl probably doesn't need to be banned anymore. I'm more worried about Bitterblosssom. That doesn't seem like a card anybody should get back. One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. Abrupt Decay is about the only good answer the format has picked up since the ban, really. And that seems like a real odd choice, since Bitterblossom is a 2 mana card that provides a lot of inevitability. But I suppose we'll see what happens. One time, back in 'nam, Sudo was set upon by an entire squadron of charlies. He challenged them all to a game of Pictionary, which he won resoundingly.
