Hey guys, first game here, please don't lynch me if I'm overexcited or whatnot as I've seen happen in other threads...
**tries not to be overexcited**
First vote...
Vel-Rahn Koon seems like a good choice because I'm a UVA student whereas he's at Tech... Most people at UVA would agree that all people at tech are scum, but I actually don't embrace that rivalry. Here's some good will, Vel!
Raffles also seems like a good vote because he has the most posts by far and I would infer is the most experienced... however if I became experienced I would hate it if people used this good but very painful logic... also if he is a townie which is percentagewise more likely, it helps to have an experienced player on the team!
I agreeFOS:John and DLMFlol, but not quite fair to vote them out first before giving them a chance to respond to these claims...
I've read up a little and it seems that casting a die, doing anactualrandom vote, and requesting that everyone follow it is the pro-townie thing to do. I hope this game is a blast, pardners . Here goes!

Kay, I'm over it, thanks .
In the way it was presented, somewhat, but really first day is there any better way to select someone than random die roll? Have you participated in games where people actually show tells first day? If so, or if I'm just terribly flawed in this logic, very soz and please explain .Raffles wrote:Joke?

Vote: Occult
because I can
As for Post 35:
The "Joke?" comment was aimed at your "Speedlynch Raffles" comment, not the random vote.

Yes there is, and we discuss, discuss and discuss! If not finding an actual scum by catching them red handed, we can at least know who is more likely a scum and who is more likely a town. The more increased the chance that scum is killed, the better voting strategy.Guardian wrote:

Yes people do often show tells on first day, I'm still not allowed to talk about it though because non of the games (barring marathon day) I've participated in has finished. Newbie 304 is the first game I was in if you are interested, day 1 lynch scene is on page 16.Woof!-

Yeah - I tried to respond to this - Speedlynch obviously has bad connotations etc etc and that's why I said the way I presented it was jokeish. However, why not select someone with random die roll and have everyone vote for them and get to night one? That's what I mean about is the logic flawed - should we not just get rid of whoever the die landed on (Raffles in this case) and move on to the night? To restate: are there really meaningful tells on day one?Vel-Rahn Koon wrote:Vote: OccultThe "Joke?" comment was aimed at your "Speedlynch Raffles" comment, not the random vote.

Unvote
I feel great that we are out of random voting stage on day 1 at possibly a record time. But I have a sinking feeling we are going to go back to it once other 6 people appears. Anyway...
The bad thing about random-lynching on the first day is that you would have practically nothing to go on the second day either. If you could make a random lynch on D1, what to stop the mafia from making a random NK N1? Then you would have to do the same for D2. It just doesn't work.Woof!-

Typically, Day 1 on mafiascum.net lasts until at least page 6 - and that's for newbie games with 7 people. I'd imagine a 12 player would be longer. Any earlier than that and you really don't get enough discussion from all involved in the game to make accurate predictions as to alignment for the remaining days.
If everything goes against the town (meaning we lynch all townies and the scum get all their night kills), this game will only last until Day 3! That's pretty short, so we MUST spend as much time as possible on Day 1 trying to get people to slip up.The Newbie Queue ALWAYS needs ICs and Mods!

How are we out of the random voting stage? As you said, we still have half of the players that haven't contributed yet. That's no reactions to go on for 50% of our players.
You were quite correct stating that we don't need to rush things, but post 40 seems to me that you're rushing anyway, and giving yourself an out by stating "But I have a sinking feeling we are going to go back to it once other 6 people appears. Anyway..."

Ah cmon, FoS would be the last thing I would expect for trying to get the game out of random voting stage. It's like me giving you a cake and you punching me in the nose. There's no reason why game should continue to dwell in the random voting stage, if anything get it out as quick as possible to get some discussion going.Vel-Rahn Koon wrote:How are we out of the random voting stage? (Usually this is normally done by bandwagonning but I thought I'd try a more positive approach)
If we get enough discussion going, then there'd be plenty for late comers to analyze and we won't need to go back to random voting.Woof!-

Well if the others random vote then there is nothing to analyze, even if we tried to analyze random votes, there would be strong WIFOM leaning strongly to "random" side (as the name dictates). If we give them stuff to analyze then we can analyze them back. I thought seeing as we are here we might as well provide a bit of material.
As for unvoting, it's something I do when we are out of random voting stage. I know we were still in the random voting stage, but to seeing as you came up with some questions, I thought it might be a good opportunity to take the lead to unvote and announce that weareout of the random voting stage.
There are no advantage to continue random voting on and on, I can't stress that enough. It's a waste of time.Woof!-

I went back and re-read all the posts... Only thing i can further contribute is that I have a slight hunch gorckat is pro-town because of his random vote choice and phrasing...
Of other people who have posted substantially, there is no one that I am confident is not scum... Vel is playing very pro-town but that could be a guise, Raffles seems really fishy to me and too 'let's get going and play whoo I am NOT scum', occult,OMGUSfor voting for me, maybe you're scum but the vote for me doesn't contribute to or take away from that...
People who haven't posted much, please do so, scummy lurkers!Do not lynch me.
